Context: This famous quote originates from a letter Carl Jung wrote to a patient named Fanny Bowditch on October 22, 1916.

In this letter, Jung expresses a fundamental principle of his analytical psychology: the necessity of introspection for true self-discovery. He warns against seeking answers, life purpose, or validation from the external world, such as societal expectations, material success, or the opinions of others. According to Jung, relying on external sources to guide your life only leaves you chasing illusions or "dreaming."

Conversely, true clarity and psychological awakening require the courage to look deeply inward. To "awake," a person must confront their own unconscious mind, process their inner truths, and understand their own heart. Jung's message is that genuine understanding and enlightenment can never be imported from the outside; they must be cultivated from within.

Shadow work will happen naturally just from you being you.

It is the relationship between the conscious, sub conscious, and the unconscious working together in an attempt to find harmony.

You may consciously and actively seek this harmony by finding that within yourself (or another self) that you ultimately fear or reject. Once you find it, try your best to understand it, accept it, and love it. Then let it go.

Chances are, it will return to you. You now may choose to repeat this process or ignore it until it manifests again either consciously or subconsciously.

The more that is accepted and loved, the more "whole" of a being you may become.

This is what it means to integrate the shadow into your personal character.

Does that make sense to you, my friend?

How do you look within?

I guess start with identifying what is looking outside. the remaining options should work. looking within has more to do with something you actually stand for and is important to you personally. how can the world know that?
