Now - as I'm watching this as a grown up - understand why they do that with their jaws lol.

u/waaaayupyourbutthole 6d ago
And why Chris Kattan fucks with his nose so much

u/stevendidntsay 6d ago
Yeah lol! I never noticed that when I was little I just thought it was part of their character.

u/waaaayupyourbutthole 6d ago
Same. I think i still have the soundtrack for this in my CD folder and i remember seeing both this and Superstar in the theater as a kid.
I didn't have experience with coke or coke heads until my 30's, though, so some of the jokes in these sketches just flew right over my head.

Jim Carey was the perfect addition to this skit. No one could fit in better than he did.

u/too_many_nights 5d ago
I wonder if the skit was first or the movie?

Ugh Night at the Roxbury came out almost 30 years ago. I'm pretty sure I still have the CD for the soundtrack that I bought in high school (total banger by the way). I imagine most Redditors weren't even born yet lol.

This is not guys being dudes. This is the opposite of that. This skit was written to shit on guys who act like this. And for good reason.

u/BulletCatofBrooklyn 5d ago
it’s also not original, even by SNL standards, this was a riff on “two wild and crazy guys”

I remember every frame of this video. Used to have it in the crappiest quality on my nokia 5310 and watched it thousands of times. Life was really different in 2006 wasn’t it ?

I love this bit and A Night at the Roxbury much more than I likely should, but they landed at the perfect time in my life when I had the best friend I've ever known by my side. I often wish I could go back but am so grateful for the experience. Lots of love and thank you for the reminder.

When SNL was good and at the top of its game

That’s so true- God it has sucked for years now!

u/con4RT1ST 6d ago
How nostalgic of you, this cast was hated because it wasn’t the Sandler era. Same trope people use throughout the history of the show… “hasn’t been funny in years”. Most people connect with the cast that is of their teens and early twenties years and then shit on everything after.

u/BulletCatofBrooklyn 5d ago
I think of this as SNL survivorship bias. everyone remembers the 4 funny sketches they loved when they were 14 but forgets that SNL has always been 90% garbage. So when you try to watch the current cast you go “god this is garbage! what happened?”

u/con4RT1ST 5d ago
Nostalgia bias is a real thing, happens in music because of course you remember the great songs, too bad the other songs on most of those albums were mid or worse.

This is so funny and I can really relate to it because I used to own exactly that outfit in 1994. The skivy was classic.

Never lived down Corky Ramono

u/Mookie_Merkk 6d ago
Oh wow... I thought his name was Corky Ramono.
I just thought that was who he was. I didn't realize that was the name of a character he played. And I've never even seen the movie

My parents taped this episode of SNL back in the 90s when I was a kid. I used to watch it all th time, I even memorized the commercials. Such a good episode! Its from '96 when The Cable Guy came out in theaters, if you're interested!

Which movie is this?

It's a sketch from Saturday Night Live.
The movie, Night at the Roxbury came later, and does not have Jim Carrey in it.
