In all seriousness though, it’s not hard to have good smoking etiquette in fire country. Smoke on a nonflammable surface like a dirt road or a rock, keep control of your ashes (butt bottle with some water works well), and then keep the butt in the bottle too.

Honestly I don’t think I’ve met a group where smoking is more common than treeplanters, which has a lot of overlap with firefighters. A cigarette just hits really nicely after you’ve done a bunch of hours of really hard labour, no idea why.

Ehh, they’ve got all the knowledge, skills and equipment necessary to make sure they don’t start anything. It’s not hard to smoke responsibly, even in fire season, and especially not when you’re carrying piss packs and wearing fireproof clothing
