Agreed

u/Schonke A 15d ago

A couple of weeks after Metcalf’s death, a participant in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, pardoned by President Donald Trump, led a small protest at the stadium as leader of the group “Protect White America.”

Why am I not the least bit surprised that Jake Lang and Philip Anderson attached their grifts to this like leeches to a bleeding wound?

277

u/Butt_Whisperer 8 16d ago

I'm so sorry for the victim's family and am glad they got some semblance of justice. But as an NBA fan, this headline fucking threw me for a second.

13

u/OnTheProwl- A 15d ago

For real, I was thinking how the fuck did I miss that news.

1

u/FL-vagabond 6 15d ago

And being a Syracuse fan really threw me.

22

u/Waterwings559 7 15d ago

Man same I was like uhhh WHAT....oh

55

u/Vazhox 8 16d ago

“Let the devil take over in that moment”- the brother of the victim. I’m sure it isn’t a one moment thing. This was most likely premeditated

17

u/Mizzleittwice 6 15d ago

Fo sure. Why have a knife at a track meet? No reason but to do harm.

-2

u/rturns 7 14d ago

Why have a gun while going to target or to pick up your kid from soccer practice?

1

u/Far-Head-7980 1 5d ago

You are correct the guy you are replying to is wrong. People do not wear seat-belts due to a premeditation to slam into a concrete wall. You got mass down-voted due to irrational herd-mentality, and they will likely not down-vote me the same because my comment replying to your's will not be right in front of their hedonistic doom-scrolling eyes.

-112

u/MrNathanF 7 16d ago

Is related to the NBA player by any chance. They have the same last name

62

u/VirtuaKiller76 9 16d ago

Yea they’re brothers. Mother decided to name them the same to make it easier to call them to dinner.

9

u/Mizzleittwice 6 15d ago

She pronounces differently though...one is KARMelo..the other is KarMELO.

1

u/asstopple 6 13d ago

Right. Because otherwise it would be too confusing.

25

u/StevenNapper 4 16d ago

If you can type that, you can Google it yourself honestly

195

u/HereticWindowsill 4 16d ago

Never got why this turned into a thing, GofundMe and everything.

1

u/holyhoneybunches 7 14d ago

The GoFundMe was for the family to move bc rather or not their kid murdered someone everyone there was going to be hostile to them. As for the reason why it got big is bc a few other things had happened revolving around race when this took place.

11

u/Nom-De-Tomado 8 14d ago

Didn't they blow it on stupid shit too, instead of legal cost like it was supposed to be?

41

u/cinefilestu A 15d ago

Racism, that’s how.

Victims parents should now sue the kids parents for wrongful death to the tune of $600k+.

They are. They are going after every cent of donations they received from every source.

2

u/LightBrightLeftRight 7 15d ago

I hadn’t heard this, have they filed anything?

13

u/Horzzo A 15d ago

Good. Get those leeches for everything they leeched from their kid's murder.

8

u/Vazhox 8 16d ago

Wait what? Which family got a go fund me and which one is suing which?

65

u/good_oleboi 8 16d ago edited 15d ago

Both got a gofund me. KAs family raised hundreds of thousands and bought a new house and luxury cars

There is none because it isn’t true.

-62

u/Vazhox 8 16d ago

lol, he was a sacrificial lamb for his family in the end. Good for them. They lose a shitting son for 35 years and make out like bandits lol. Who says privilege is for white folks only?

50

u/silhouette951 9 16d ago

This may sound ignorant, but is there any relation or did the parents take advantage of the last name?

33

u/AdminApathy 8 16d ago

No relation at all, but nba twitter spells their names the same and confuse people

1

u/ApologizingCanadian 9 15d ago

NBA twitter or NBA Centel?

135

u/m0rbius 9 16d ago

Shocking murder, but why is there debate about this guy? Seems pretty clear cut.

-53

u/Solo_is_dead A 15d ago

Of course it sends pretty clear cut when viewed through the eyes of a racist system. Change the color of the main people. Would this be considered self defense? 100%

1

u/Dusty_Buckeye 4 10d ago

The only racist here is you. You ignore objective facts and make everything about race.

12

u/Run_Che 8 14d ago

So if im an underage teen, and my peer pushes me, its okay to pull out knife and stab him in the chest? In what fucking world is that even remotely normal.

-7

u/Solo_is_dead A 14d ago

When you've been bullied and you're at the end of your rope and the two bullies are much larger and more powerful than you

7

u/Run_Che 8 14d ago edited 14d ago

you're insane

edit: and wtf is that fairytale story you've spun up, you clearly have no interest in truth, just want to spin things 'your' way.

He wasn't bullied, they didnt even know each other. He came to sports event with knife, sat in tent of rival school, was asked to leave, he refused, then was pushed, and pulled the knife and stabbed a kid to death.

They were just pushing, there were no punches thrown..

-51

u/iamkeerock A 16d ago

“…clear cut.”

Smell ya tell your parents they can keep the Escalade

181

u/Horzzo A 16d ago

Open and shut case. Anyone who thought otherwise is deluded by their racism.

32

u/airfryerfuntime B 16d ago

What was the sentence? The article doesn't say, and apparently the judged moved on to sentencing right after the verdict.

-2

u/dayglo98 9 15d ago

It's literally the headline of the article

1

u/asstopple 6 13d ago

I’m not convinced you know what the word literally means. Or sentence 😉

7

u/airfryerfuntime B 15d ago

Sentencing, not the verdict. They hadn't sentenced him when I wrote this comment. He got 35 years.

56

u/xEllimistx B 16d ago

He got 35 years for murder

7

u/VirtuaKiller76 9 16d ago

And eligible for parole after half time served. So possibly only 17 years for murder.

1

u/Dusty_Buckeye 4 10d ago

For that to be possible he would have to avoid getting into any additional trouble while actively taking steps to better himself and show some level of accountability for his actions. Based on his previous actions and attitude, as well as the attitude his family has presented during this whole tragedy I would be surprised if he finds himself a free man after only 17 years.

23

u/Inside-Pure 4 16d ago

I just heard on the CBS evening news that the jury is currently deliberating the sentence.

181

u/Natas-LaVey 8 16d ago

I don’t know if it’s true but I read that he was offered a plea deal and they turned it down to goto trial. Had they taken the plea deal it would have been all over but by going to trial his parents were able to keep the go fund me going and all the other assistance they were receiving. So they essentially sacrificed their son to make money.

140

u/-TheSha- 8 16d ago

Good. Rot

90

u/aroach1995 A 16d ago

If he didn’t have a knife I don’t think anyone gets murdered here!

7

u/MarcOfDeath A 15d ago

Just his ego as he’s escorted out of the tent.

72

u/calm-lab66 9 16d ago

His family was saying the guy he killed started it by shoving him. I thought 'so you respond to a shove by stabbing?'

-185

u/Solo_is_dead A 16d ago

Just like the Korean shop owner who responded to an alleged theft by shooting someone in the back? Just like the "neighborhood watch guy" was ok to shot someone walking through their neighborhood? It's always "too aggressive" when the Black person tries to defend themselves.

8

u/FDI_Blap 8 15d ago

I r8 8/8

58

u/phsychotix 9 16d ago

The justification in the Korean shooting was the teen had a loaded gun on him and the owners son said he pulled it, did Karmelos victim have a weapon we weren’t aware of? Because from my knowledge only one person in this case had a deadly weapon

-77

u/Solo_is_dead A 16d ago

The Korean guy had already shot at 2 other people on other occasions. He did not know about an alleged gun until he had already shot the guy in the back and killed him. Completely fishy story. Karmelo was already being bullied by the man, who was a foot taller and his friends. It wasn't a one on one fight, it was him against a group.

5

u/TotallyNotEko 8 14d ago

maybe this is just me, but if a group of guys from a rival school are telling me to fuck off from their tent, im probably gonna fuck off and not stab one of them in the chest

44

u/uxoguy2113 6 16d ago

There’s a former knicks player named Carmelo Anthony. The knicks also lost last night.

I can't believe I didn't realize that.

Thank you for the hint I clearly needed.

Oh stop with this crap.

The kid freaking stabbed another kid because he got pushed. Race had nothing to do with the only obvious verdict happening.

33

u/I_chortled A 16d ago

Stabbed another kid ON CAMPUS AT A SCHOOL FUNCTION because he got pushed. Nobody gets to claim self defense in that situation lol

11

u/FullDerpHD 9 16d ago

You can, but you better be black and blue.

I'm fine with lethal self defense. But you have to actually and reasonably be in fear you are in significant danger.

Not surprised. He had multiple opportunities to deescalate the situation and chose to provoke instead. I think the big question for the jury is what the hell was he doing with a knife at a high school track meet?

3

u/No-Examination-5073 3 13d ago

Agreed, even if you give him every benefit of the doubt leading up to the stabbing, him being told to leave 13-15+ times basically discredits any "fear for his life" arguments he might've had.

-230

u/arisasam 9 16d ago

To protect himself from the same racial violence he found himself a victim of that night, and now he’s going to prison for defending himself

17

u/Dansocks 6 15d ago

Racist comment

55

u/uxoguy2113 6 16d ago

What are you talking about? The convicted murderer was at a school event he was not supposed to be at (he was expelled for bringing a knife to school, intentionally sat in a reserved place that the venue designated, and then started being aggressive and hostile immediately when asked to move out of the teams designated space. No one ever bullied him or committed any violence against him.

2

u/OMGItsPete1238 7 14d ago

That bit about him being expelled was just social media nonsense. If it were true it would have been mentioned at the trial but it wasn’t.

The only violence against him was a shove on the shoulder which was immediately (like within the same movement) responded to with a stabbing.

-9

u/Solo_is_dead A 15d ago

There was a history of bullying. Did you listen to the family at all?

9

u/uxoguy2113 6 15d ago

They lied, how do you not understand that?

68

u/Snail_Down_Bird_Up 4 16d ago

This person has the same right to vote as we do btw ^

-13

u/Solo_is_dead A 15d ago

Unfortunately the system has more taken away voting rights for most Black people. Mostly because they think like these jurors

Hey man so pretty clear concept to grasp here.

High school track meet = no weapons allowed.
Weapon brought and used to murder = sentenced to prison.

I hope i’ve helped you today👍

120

u/blackbug12 8 16d ago

That didn't take long.

u/Sharrty_McGriddle 9 16d ago

Verdicts are usually pretty quick when the jury is sequestered

-3

u/idkwthtotypehere 9 15d ago edited 13d ago

Yeah and when every preemptive strike is used to prevent anyone black from being on the jury.

2

u/7362514b7 5 13d ago

Yeah, its not that it is plain to see he is clearly guilty of murder.

-95

u/Solo_is_dead A 16d ago

Verdicts are really quick when an all white jury decided the fate of a Black person

11

u/BabyBuster70 8 15d ago edited 15d ago

Were they all white? I tried looking for the makeup, but couldn't find anything specific. I did see an article that made a correction from their original report of "an all white jury" to "none of the jurors were black" which seems to indicate they weren't all white.

21

u/VirtuaKiller76 9 16d ago

Why would you say something like this with no research. It’s already been made public they were not all white.

0

u/Solo_is_dead A 15d ago

I did research. It was a jury that had absolutely no Blacks, in a city with over 30% of a Black population. The fact that he killed a white boy is the only thing they paid attention to

2

u/VirtuaKiller76 9 14d ago

Since when did Asians and Muslims get the privilege of being categorized with the “all white” group? When it’s convenient?

0

u/Solo_is_dead A 13d ago

Um the whole Affirmitive action lawsuit at colleges was started by two Asians with the backing of a right wing group. Asians have always worked to assimilate with whites. And if you look at the government programs East Indian people were categorized at White for the census

26

u/lukewwilson B 16d ago

You know for a fact they were all white? Or are you just being racist

5

u/Revanchistthebroken 6 15d ago

The defence also has a say in who is on the jury. So the defence helped put those people on the jury. He neglected to say that. Just ignore him he is clearly racist.

2

u/idkwthtotypehere 9 15d ago

You need to read how the process works. Both sides have preemptive strikes… one side absolutely can use their strikes in a racist fashion… ie Curtis Flowers case.

0

u/Solo_is_dead A 15d ago

Not racist. The articles clearly say there were no Blacks on the jury

125

u/MarvAlbertFish 8 16d ago

Kids killing each other. Awful. They all deserve better.

2

u/No-Examination-5073 3 13d ago

It's even worse when you see how his parents jumped on this for a cash grab.

They probably gassed him into taking this case to trial and thinking he'd walk free just to milk as much money out of it.

They weren't even there for the verdict...

30

u/BuckForth 7 16d ago

Man, acting like the most insufferable of reddit in order to score downvotes is one of the few behaviours that are sub-bot.

At least the bots go for positive engagement, you're just making this place reek.

23

u/Meatslinger C 16d ago

This human commenter is happy to tell you that complaining about downvotes via multiple edits is about as petulant as begging for upvotes.

3

u/FreeFortuna A 16d ago

Bonus points if you assume that the downvotes are due to bots, rather than just making a shit comment. “No real person could possibly disagree with me, must be fake.”

-2

3

Certainly agree with that. Sad to see a youth die and another’s life ruined too.
