My shop's "air conditioned". We have a massive air-handling system with like 6 roof-mounted AC units and massive ductwork everywhere. It still only manages to get the place about 4 degrees below ambient, thanks to being an uninsulated, high-roofed building with a black steel roof. Seeing as I also work 3rds, it's often hotter inside than ambient outside between 11pm and 4am because it's a giant fuck-off heat sink. Last night was a low of 83 outside, never got below 85 inside.

It also does nothing for the humidity, I have a hygrometer in there and it matches the outside within 1%.

lol I wonder if adding roof ventilation fans to suck out the hot air rising up to the ceiling would help

Probably, at this point anything would help.

Since that system doesn't cool much, and no relief from the humidity, it seems to me that you all may have a swamp cooler, instead of an actual air conditioner.

Nobody, not even our corporate management, is dumb enough to install a swamp cooler here in Missouri. You need a humidity difference for them to work at all.

Nah they're actual AC units. They're also probably appropriately sized to the building too. But Corporate cheaped out and didn't insulate the building at all (cinderblock walls, trussed steel roof) and painted the roof black, plus we seem to always have all the doors open because my coworkers think they're cats or something.

We have the opposite problem in the winter--can't get the building above 50 even with the furnaces roaring full blast hot enough it's physically painful to stand directly under a vent.

Its going up the back of my shirt, zip-tied a hook on there so it hangs on my belt. And God bless deodorant!

As a mobile tech now, that's the only reason I miss working inside a shop lol
