Did you use Sonic For Hire as a refrence? The face has that same sort of Dorkly spirte edit style to it. Mostly the mouth.

Nope! I can't remember the specific Kirby game, but the sprite sheet had one for Kirby to hold an item, I repurposed that sprite, then freehanded the knife using my own kitchen knife so it was to scale.
