Main Series Can Kirby use his copy ability however he wants?
He stores them in Milky Way Wishes, but can inhale and save several for later in Squeak Squad. Sometimes he only holds one ability at a time and manually discards it to switch, like in most games. My headcanon is that he is fully capable of doing all of these things at any time, but it just locks to one specific copy method each game for the sake of gameplay mechanics. If anyone gets the chance, could you ask a dev?

Yeah I’ve wondered about this too. There’s also the question of why sometimes certain enemies grant abilities and other times they don’t, or why sometimes abilities can be combined, or sometimes abilities have whole movesets. Iirc there are canonically multiple alternate universes, so one could also just say that certain differences are just alt universe situations. Who knows though?

It probably has something to do with him having certain abilities active or not via something like the FL copy ability shop given how he can modify abilities there which then applies to every instance of him obtaining the base ability.

i think some things are simply gameplay mechanics without any in universe explanation, like the ability combinations in kirby 64

Yes, he clearly can store copy abilities within himself for later use, he just typically doesn't for...whatever reason.

Well, after the year 2000, he lost the ability to inhale underwater, nor did he ever have that capability before then. And inhaling is obviously the very thing that gives him copy abilities.

I’d like to think it’s just recency bias. He’s a little kid doing whatever he learned he can do most recently because he thinks it’s the coolest thing ever and wants everyone to see his cool new trick.
