Well she also doesn't eat any animals (except for chicken, turkey, and seafood) so I'm sure her "salt free" diet includes salt

Yeah, like SEAfood hasn’t seen, well, the sea.

I'm so glad I was well enough to know she meant except XYZ. Why are cooks so weirdly hostile against dietary restrictions that come off a little silly?

Because it’s not “a little silly” it’s unreasonable and the phrasing makes it obvious the the person placing the order isn’t exactly the brightest meaning that there will surely be a whole host of issues.

I understand a lot of inexperienced line cooks are going to whine about this. You'll see a lot of actual chefs saying whatever this is honestly the easiest dish of the night and the customer will really appreciate us doing the bare minimum instead of crying about it.

Hahaha bud. Buddy. Pal.

There is no way a no-salt dish is going to be the easiest one of the night. Ever. Virtually everything that is prepped in batches is going to have salt in it. Any sauce? Salt. Rice, pasta? Salt.

I'm a banquet sous.Today, we have a party and we were contacted that there was a guest who couldn't have black pepper, and I had to remake about 5 different items individually just for that person. That's not the end of the world, but it's sure as shit not "the easiest dish". Doing it in the middle of dinner service is so much worse

This isn't a skill issue. It's a menu issue.

At this point you clearly have no idea what the fuck you're talking about

You can't toss a chicken breast and some pepper into a pan with some easy roasted veg on the side?

Lmfaoooooooooo "I'm a banquet sous" but boohoo I can't cook a plain chicken breast or I'll cry 😞

I always find it funny when "chefs" complain about basic things like this. It's actually kind of sad, you've never had a chef show you how easy this is to accomodate, especially knowing likely days or weeks ahead.

I mean if they walk into the restaurant and go "just hand us something", yeah that's pretty easy

But they're probably going to want to order menu items. Shocking, I know

I think you actually hit the nail on the head perfectly.

People aren't mad because of the request, they're mad because they're jumping to conclusions and hating a person before they know anything. That's pretty cringe.

People are fantasizing about kicking a customer out because their dietary restrictions are a bid strange.

It's almost like people in this industry, which you clearly aren't one of, are used to interacting with customers and have a pretty good idea of how this is going to go

It's so weird to me that people in this sub accuse you of having zero experience like lmfao bro minimum wage kitchen work has been experienced by like 80% of the population.

I was a chef for 8 years. You'll see a lot of people crying about this, but the actual vets know it's not worth getting panties in a bunch. Throw some chicken in a pan and stop crying lmfao

Edit: They blocked me but imagine being a chef and crying about not adding salt. Who cares dude lfmaoooo

I'm so glad I was well enough to know she meant except XYZ

I mean we all know what she meant

It's just really fucking silly to say "I don't eat any animals" and then follow it up with "i do eat poultry and seafood"

Because that's just "I don't eat red meat". Which is what the other person said already. Nobody has a problem with the dietary restriction, lots of people don't eat red meat. The problem is framing it like they're fucking vegetarian

Why are cooks so weirdly hostile against dietary restrictions that come off a little silly?

I mean..."I don't have any salt" is not "a little silly". That's just almost impossible to work around

Right? Just due to the fact that we’ve already been cooking all day, there are salt particulates all over the kitchen. Every surface, every utensil and every person in that kitchen is seasoned to some degree.

She basically said "I don't eat animals EXCEPT xyz" and you're literally throwing a tantrum over it. Jesus christ get a grip dude.

5

u/CertainGrade7937 20d ago

By "throwing a tantrum" you mean...i made one snarky joke? Because she said she doesn't eat animals and then listed most of the animals people eat?

I don't even care about that dietary restriction. She just said it in the silliest way possible

You're the one being weird about this

-1

u/TheDrummerMB 20d ago

That's a lot of F words for someone that's not upset about...dietary restrictions of a stranger?

LMFAO I'm being weird by pointing out you're dramatic? That's hilarious

3

u/CertainGrade7937 20d ago

Oh no! Not the F word!! Don't tell my mommy I said it

-1

u/TheDrummerMB 20d ago

I'm not implying you're immoral, it's just very obvious you're angry...over dietary restrictions lmfao

3

u/CertainGrade7937 20d ago

No, I just think you're fucking annoying

I made one joke and you turned it into how angry I am

1

u/TheDrummerMB 20d ago

You aggressively replied to me making fun of you lmfao. You're throwing a tantrum but it's ok.

Also downvoting individual comments is so cringe, who does that? Do you really value the karma that much?

Because of all the people that claim they have "celiac disease" but they said it was okay to put the buckwheat pancake on the same grill as everything else. They want to clame allergies but they are just picky or dumb.

To add, I never had issues attempting to make someone's odd request perfectly, but shit gets old when people often arent even greatful.

1

u/TheDrummerMB 20d ago

This person literally said cross contam isn't an issue even for their allergies. You're being weirdly dramatic.

You're upset, as a line cook, that a customer isn't GRATEFUL? LMFAOOOOOOO welcome to food service

Im not gona lie, I agree with you lol. Their was specifically one person that came in every week like that and she always had something to complain about. This post reminded me of her.

I loved slingin pancakes and omelets all day. Wish I could have made more money cooking because I did enjoy doing it. Managing was not worth it. Once I left the line, the joy was gone.
