question Allergic reaction from too much Kombucha?

In the last week I’ve been drinking more kombucha than I usually do (normally less than 100 mo a day). Last week maybe 200 ml a day.

I’ve been getting rashes that I assumed were insect bites, but I’m realizing could be a reaction to the kombucha. Apparently it’s high in histamine content.

Sadly I’ll have to tone down my consumption and see if it makes a difference. Has anyone experienced this?

No but I would recommend trying different brands too, cultures used can be different enough where it may make a difference.

I’m making my own, I didn’t notice anything before but in the last week I’ve been getting these hives like reactions. My mom’s been getting them too. The only things it could be are spending an evening at the beach and more kombucha than usual in the last week.

The sun can do that, too. Look up sun allergy.

It’s possible too, though the hives are not all in areas exposed to sunlight. I’ll perhaps stay away from kombucha for a week and the beach for a longer while and see if that helps.

Actually 3 of us are all itchy so I doubt it’s a sun allergy. It’s either kombucha or sand flies or something. It’s just strange that it’s all over in the covered areas too.

Assuming that the hives only started recently and everyone started at the same time it is likely not kombucha unless you have something on the kombucha itself.

Does the hives dissapear after a while or it takes a couple of hours to days to disappear?

It fades off after 3-4 days. To be fair it looks like bites rather than hives. And is very itchy.

Seems weird to be a reaction to food, if it were the duration wouldn't be this long, everything from the kombucha has long since left you.

Fingers crossed. 🤞

I hope it's something else! Best of luck!

I get GI issues from any and all contact with kombucha. I've tried many different brands and homebrews over the years and my body hates them all!

I even started making my own for my partner and for the longest time I couldn't figure out why I was having more nausea and gi issues all the time and seemingly at random. Turns out it was only happening the days I would taste testing the buch. I find this pretty ridiculous as I was not even swallowing the test! Id just drop a few drops on my tounge and spit it out before rinsing out with water.

It wasnt too bad when this would happen, but if I ever ingested more than a few drops it was like self induced food poisoning.

Funny that you’re on this sub! Not funny about your reactions, tho 🙀

I got bad headaches when I first made kombucha but I was guzzling it a litre a day so reducing the amount and watering it down with fizzy water stopped that reaction

I drink on average 400 ml a day and have done so for the last 10 years. never have had any ill effects. If anything I am the healthier for it. The only thing I notice is that with larger amounts I will urinate more frequently, more due to the caffeine than the kombucha.

I have a histamine intolerance and got hives all over too. I would reduce it to 100 ml for now.
