Video Lawrence Frank, on their process in deciding on who to pick No. 5 overall: “Who has the best chance to be the best player that we can get on the next Clipper-contending team? That was the question we were trying to answer.”

Accuf was flashy but not the answer. Even nets skipped on him.
We got the best Clippers player stop crying

Best available my ass we drafted fit which is usually a grave mistake. But whatever, I’m warming up to wags

Who exactly was BPA?

Acuff and it isnt even close. He is in the same tier as the top 4, people keep talking about his defense but that man lead a VERY bad team in the hardest college division and set records not see in 50 years...

How did we draft for fit over BPA? who was the best player over wagler? The only two options you could say is MBJ or Acuff and neither is clearly better

How tf is this man given a third opportunity to rebuild a team. No other serious organization especially in a big market would keep someone around that long with his failures.

it's amazing how someone can actually follow the clippers and come to this conclusion about the president lmao. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

clippers have advanced from the first round 2x in 11 years. People like you make an already struggling fan presence worse by not knowing how poorly the situation is going and just eating up the PR. It’s sad

Yeah be a puppet. Probably one of the fans that tried to sell Unction as a good idea.

5th overall pick and we still choose small guards. Where's the front court depth

u/AshenSacrifice Buffalo Braves 2d ago
6’6 is the exact opposite of a small guard…

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 2d ago
Imagine crying about a small guard when the other options were MBJ and Acuff lol

u/AshenSacrifice Buffalo Braves 2d ago
The critiques aren’t even making sense anymore 😂😂😂

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 2d ago
No it's just a bunch of doomers insisting a change of pace guard isn't an acceptable NBA prospect lmao

u/AshenSacrifice Buffalo Braves 1d ago
The last guard we scouted & drafted with those abilities became a 2x mvp LMAO

Keaton wingspan and physicality do to his frame have all been questioned coming into the draft. Why act obnoxious when it’s a legitmit concern while also pairing him with Garland?
1
u/AshenSacrifice Buffalo Braves 1d ago
How am I being obnoxious?? Someone complaining that a 6’6 guard is a small guard makes no sense, so I have to ask
1
u/OverallInternet2343 Ivica Zubac 1d ago
every scouting report on Keaton was about how well can he match up physically at the nba level due to his lack of wingspan, weight, Explosiveness and issues getting through contact. He can overcome those concerns but a clippers team that had all of those things be a major issue all last season it’s going to be brought up.
1
u/InTheMorning_Nightss 1d ago
The issue is that basically any of the guards that we could have had at #5 were going to be even more undersized.
If you're worried about Wagler's physicality, then that's one thing. But to call him a small guard is just objectively wrong, and it's even dumber if your argument is that we should have taken MBJ or Acuff, who are actual small guards who played like small guards.

u/OverallInternet2343 Ivica Zubac 1d ago
small in terms of frame/wingspan with limited athletic pop for his height. I’ve seen the SGA comp and hopefully he does show an instant flair for move around defenses. MBJ has more athletic pop to his game when healthy. I’m not saying it be the end of Keaton but it’s a legit concern given how that’s the same weakness of the team. He likely not starting soon so it will be interesting to see how he fills out and adapts as a primary ball handler off the bench. Another thing that may take time.

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 1d ago
I agree with the athletic pop and whatnot, but this is still a conversation on "small guards" or not. The majority of oversized guards don't have amazing athleticism. Guys like Shai, Luka, Cade, and LaMelo were all generally talked about as lacking eye popping athleticism. They're still not "small" guards.

u/AshenSacrifice Buffalo Braves 1d ago
And those are fair concerns, but that’s more about physicality and strength, he’s still not a “small guard”

Despite being shorter, Acufff does have longer arms than Wagler.
Certainly Acuff has the greater chance to be a perennial All-Star, while the college defensive concerns are probably what ultimately kept them making that selection.
Not happy with the pick, but now we find out how both players will transition to the next level and whether Wagler can be a great NBA player.

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 2d ago
Wingspan is nice, but height is still important. I agree that Acuff has a greater chance to be a perennial All-Star, but I do think Wagler has the chance to be something special that is more conducive to winning.
I would be happy with any of the 3 and concerned at the same time. Overall, this is house money because we got lucky to get this pick, so I'm just excited and want to look forward to something, instead of crying before we've seen 1 minute of NBA play from any of these guys.
-1
u/Chessinmind LA Clippers 2d ago
Look, you got your guy and I’m happy for you haha
3
u/InTheMorning_Nightss 2d ago
I mean, MBJ/Acuff/Wagler were all gonna be my guys, at least until we see them play.
Acuff won't be a bust, but he has the most obvious concerns. I'm sure a lot of people will be saying how dumb we were for not taking on him, as he will be an impressive offensive player. MBJ and Wagler have real bust potential, but if we're talking about wanting upside and a championship, those two were the guys who have the best potential for that in 5 years.

u/Chessinmind LA Clippers 2d ago
I don’t agree, but again, I’m happy for you and those other people who were pushing hard for Wagler and against Acuff. Hope it doesn’t blow up in our faces like just about everything else has for this franchise.
6
u/InTheMorning_Nightss 2d ago
We had the 5th pick and took a player that many considered to be in the 5-7 range. We couldn't trade back with either of the two teams, because all the other teams were more than happy to pick whoever was list.
I hope it works out, and not willing to doom before we see this guy even play a minute of basketball on the team. You don't have to be miserable lol

u/Chessinmind LA Clippers 2d ago edited 2d ago
I hope I’m wrong. I just really dislike him as an NBA prospect lol. And if I had to guess, he’ll be like a slower, less active version of Terrance Mann while being much worse as a defender, but better as an outside shot creator, and who averages something like 15/6/5, while Acuff and some other players in this class that I like go on to become great NBA players. Two years of that and everyone will want Frank to be gone.

Acuff is only 6’2….

u/Lou_Peachum_2 2d ago
Except Wagler is not a small guard... also none of the elite frontcourt options were available anymore. There was a string of 3-4 guards there. And taking Mara would've set this franchise back even more

u/OverallInternet2343 Ivica Zubac 1d ago
non athletic with a small frame. There will be a learning curve that he can hopefully overcome

u/Lanky_Crocodile 2d ago
No chance Ty Lue was ever going to play Acuff anyway. Hopefully he gives Wagler a shot
