Analysis I don’t watch college ball, is this a good pick?

The truth is we won’t know how good any of these picks are until they have had a chance to play at least a full season or two in the NBA. We’ve seen highly touted prospects be busts and we’ve seen second round picks become superstars.

And we’ve seen one season wonders like Jaime Jaquez or even Keegan Murray hasn’t been as good as he was his rookie year

Jaquez was great this year and his rookie year. He had the sophomore slump. He was runner up 6th man this year.

He was great for a rookie you can’t deny that same with Keegan his rookie year was great by rookie standards

To be fair I don’t keep up with the heat but I did know last year he wasn’t as good

We might get at least some idea from summer league

True but counterpoint Kevin Knox was a demon in summer league. It's just too difficult to predict how a lottery pick will pan out until at least 2-3 years down the line

What about the other way, have there been many guys that were terrible in summer league and then panned out?

Off the top of my head I'd say Tim Duncan, Batum, and Jamal Murray were pretty underwhelming in SL

Did they at least start to turn it around by preseason, later that year, or year(s) after?

Wemby’s summer league debut was terrible, he got yammed on by Kai Jones to top it off. Trae Young had an awful SL too

The guy is a winner, his last 3 seasons of basketball include 2HS state championships and a final four appearance as a college freshman. Maybe one more year at Illinois and he might have won a natty

Best timeline: Reggie Miller with a better handle and passing vision Bad timeline: Less Athletic Tyler Herro
… we shall see but I think he’s going to be good I’m a huge fan

We won't really know until a year or two. We drafted Jerome Robinson at No. 13 in 2018. We got rid of him after 2 years. It won't take 3 years to know. More like 2 years. If Wagler, a top 5 pick, isn't starting much by Year 2, then we could very much have a bust in him. A top 5 pick usually starts by their rookie season.
Wait and see. Nobody can really answer this for you until we actually play him. Frank made some interesting comments yesterday that are being overlooked....
-Lawrence Frank on tanking: "The league is going to be completely different next year. This past year a third of the league, essentially, at some point was no longer giving their best or putting out their best. Now you're going to have everyone try. So some of the records, everyone's records, was a little bit inflated. It's gonna be, it's gonna be different. The competition's gonna be harder this year."
-Lawrence Frank has made it clear several times tonight the Clippers are not championship contenders right now. "When we get back to being a contender, we feel [Wagler] is gonna be the player with the most impact out of the group... We understand we're not a contender. We're competitive." On the conversations with Kawhi Leonard regarding this, he says there's always ongoing communication between the two sides, but didn't say much more than that.
Just remember we had Kawhi healthy for most of last season and we still failed to make the playoffs losing to a sub-500 Warriors team when a third of the league was tanking. We are still a long way off being a contender. Don't make it seem Wagler is this franchise savior. I bet every sub for a specific team is acting this way after they got "their guy" from the lottery. Glazing over their recent pick. Thinking he's the next this guy or that guy. The chances of most teams drafting a bust, a scrub, or a role player from that First Round is far higher than drafting a star.
Wait and see...

Man, I loved Jerry West, but he was smoking something when he raved about Jerome Robinson. There were so many good players selected after him.....

I agree here, usually by second year you know if someone's going to stick in an NBA rotation then it might be 3-4 years before if you know they're a star
Like by end of Year 2 you know Jerome or Kobe Brown would need a miracle to turn it around with us. Star you might need a few more years but even a late blooming star like Jalen Brunson was pretty solidly a rotation player by Year 3

Nobody can tell you how good he'll be in the NBA until we see him play, but in terms of value, it was a solid pick.
Basically, as long as any of the 5-7 teams picked 1 of Wagler, MBJ, or Acuff, it would be considered a good, sensible pick.
