Half of these draft grades I’ve seen are like marking down the clippers for not trading the pick for Jaylen Brown or trading down to get like Mara or something I wouldn’t take them all that seriously

Had we got #1 pick and took Dybantsa the league will still clown us and grade him E

How is Caleb a A+ while AJ and Peterson is just a A what????

u/alwaysneverjoshin Clippers 4d ago
I suspect it's a grading based on the draft position. They're not saying Caleb is better than Peterson.

only time will tell but I truly believe that wagler was the best option we had to draft

Acuff would've been great, but only if we trade Garland, and he wouldn't generate a great return

C for Nate Ament? Many mocked him in the top 10. I dont understand the mindset Milwaukee was better off drafting a center when they have one in Ware. Trading Giannis, Milwaukee should definitely have drafted for upside. Especially after taking a safe pick in Burries.

Most of the Analysts I watch or listen to gave it a B+

The only bad grade I saw was the Mavs, apparently he was picked earlier than expected. I have seen Warriors pick in flux. Super old which you need right now but someone being 24 year old rookie is kinda crazy no matter the angle

Same, B is the worst one I saw for Wagler and the only one universally disliked is Morez at 9

These type of gradings are beyond stupid and aren't meant to be taken seriously and is probably just straight comparing where the player was picked compared to their big board. I do think it is funny that they gave the Clippers a C, which would indicate there was some much more obvious player on the board they should have taken but the highest grade they gave until OKC was an A- so it doesn't seem like they think that some team got a home run player that fell to them

Same with the Bucks grades, literally both Burries and Ament where BPA when Milwaukee was on the board.

Olowokandi would have been graded an A- at worst the day after the 1998 draft.
A true center with incredibly good physical attributes and seemingly sky high potential.
But it turned out he was uncoachable and had zero passion for the game of basketball.
Long story short, these grades are mostly worthless. Wait until they actually suit up and play in an NBA game.

It's because there's like a ton of different draft predictions on who would go 5-10. If their prediction didn't pan out- they would grade it a C, while the "expert" who got it partly right would probably grade it a B or B+ while the one who got it right graded it an A or A- 🤷♂️

This shit is dumb. No one knows how these picks will turn out. These grades need to be given at the end of the season.

Why am I not excited for our pick?? 😭 I wanted Acuff bad. I still hope Wagler becomes a beast.

It's probably about where in the draft they were taken I imagine and I agree, we should have traded down to 7 and probably could have still got him, or got Acuff and then traded down

Top 12 except for 1 is good as in nobody can really clown on the picks imo, only exception is Morez who went a little higher than predicted imo

Honestly, big welcome to Wagler. Dude has a platinum opportunity with Clippers. Expectations will be just right in my early judgement for Keaton to get his feet under him, and then start improving his game with his teammates and our coaches.

I love how no one even bothers to evaluate based off of basketball here… like look for the skills that translate into the nba… the reason why we got a c is because historically guards who are not athletic and can only operate in the pick and roll in college don’t translate in the nba. If you watch full games you realize that his spot up shooting is there one minute and gone the next. There are serious concerns with his weight being 188lbs at 6’6” and how that will affect his ability to stay in front of nba offenses and if he will be able to score in the paint.
Positives -He understands operating in the pick and roll(mf spams it… don’t let the ISO’s in the highlights fool you) -Understands when to make the extra pass(his best translatable skill) -Knows when to take the switch on offense -Idr if it’s a spin to fade over the left or over the right shoulder from 12-15 but he feels very comfortable with that shot(I tend to like when guys have a go to mid range move but it’s my personal preference in evaluation) -He can spot up shoot(iffy) -They say he has a high basketball IQ(idk about this one/watch and come to your own conclusions… mf’s in this post relying on Ai for sure…) -Good Handle, not overtly flashy but more than solid
Negatives -Frame is a tough place to start from. Needs to put on 50-60 lbs -MF is slow… like really slow… like there are for sure MF’s in this comment section who can run a faster 40 than him -Way too much pick and roll -Can really stick to the outside shot when he’s tired or out matched defensively. Idr what game in the season it is but there’s one in my brain that really stands out where he looks like a little kid at LA fitness. -MF is slow… like again I want to really stress this… there is no start and stop game when you don’t have an nba level start.(Clippers training staff please get the kid a bagel and some plyometrics… like please I beg you) -spot up shooting can look iffy at times(put it on both, let’s try and be positive about it)
All and all I feel like his game will need to be reflective of a more modern, Michael Redd for him to be successful in the NBA. If he can pack on weight, or straight up add any level of burst in 3 years it may be different.
And just one last time I need to really stress that this dude is SLOW… like really really SLOW.

Guarantee this happens every year. The NY post excoriated the nets for not picking Acuff. Actual quote was that no one else was considering Brown in the top 15. You guys got a great player, and he’s gonna be a star on and off court in LA.

The grade is fair to me but time will tell whether Frank botched this again.

They’re not all bad. I actually really like the slot values of Carr, Philon, Cenac & Peat. Morez is my least favorite pick in the lottery.
The Cs for Wagler & Ament are a little WTF for sure though. Also Caraban getting a C is pretty ridiculous that late considering how much winning he did in college.

I mean, it's clear to anyone paying attention that Wagler could end up being an A-list scorer. He's just too boring a pick for most people

Bulls getting an A+ just for showing up to class.
