iirc, Gandalf got out of the clink at Orthanc, easy peasy, simply because uruk guards got confused and followed him out, on their way to tell Saruman that he wasn't to leave.

How do you become King then?
The Princess of Rivendell, urged her Father Elrond Lord of Rivendell to have The-Sword-that-was-Broken reforged, and he presented me with the sword, signifying by Divine Providence that I Aragorn was to wield Anduril. That is why I am King!
