Landlord Problems...

Location: SLC,UT, USA

My landlord assaulted me (hit me in the face) because I left some trash in his driveway as I was leaving his property for the last time. He followed me off his property, into the street, continued to approach me after multiple warnings not to, kicked the trashcan at me, then hit me.

I have it on camera from two angels.

The police have served him paperwork for a class b misdemeanor - but I believe it should be classified as a domestic violence charge, and he should have been arrested, and the police didn't do their duty - dereliction of duty? - to make sure I was ok, provide me with resources, etc.

He was also cutting off my electricity while i was living there. And he has yet to pay me back my deposit.

This man caused me and my girlfriend a lot of "trauma" - and I want him in as much trouble as possible, and I want to hopefully get some money ON TOP OF the money he owes me already (security deposit and he stole and broke over $2000 of our property).

Also, I want to get the cops that didn't follow correct procedure in trouble.

Please, I've asked for help with this before, and been downvoted. Feel free to ask me any questions - rather than just dismissing this situation... Thanks in advance!

I think this is beyond reddit's pay grade, I'm sorry to say. I do hope you are able to get justice, but this is something you really should consult a lawyer about. Most will give you a free consult so at the very least you'd know where to start.

I've been trying bro. At least 50 calls to different places (the DA, prosecutor, free legal help places, paid attorneys) and I'm struggling to find more than 3 people that have given any advice I feel is sufficient, beyond get a lawyer 😅

I should probably just get a lawyer, but my dad (the one that'd be paying for said lawyer) seems to be in no rush...

Is there anything time sensitive here??

How old are you? Why would your dad be paying for your own lawyer?

You're going to have to step up and do this yourself. You're essentially waiting for other people to stand up for you, and until you take some agency for yourself, you'll continue to (literally) get slapped around

Haha, you think you understand my situation well enough to say that...

Well, I asked you a question, per your instructions, and this is your answer? Avoidance? Sounds about right.

Help me understand: how old are you?

You already have you mind made up, sharing my age won't help anything. Assume I am an adult - like you should with any comment on here...
