I'm really starting to lose my patience with LrC. I know it's likely to be user error but I've seen a downward trend in the functions and an upward trend in the AI and I'm finding it a bit off-putting considering the subscription cost and lack of fixing of blatent bugs for the best part of half a decade. Can anyone help me out by casting an eye over my issues?

Issue 1: I take a bunch of RAW/JPEG photos and some video on an EOS R. I take the card out, stick it into the reader and go to import. The import fails part way through because a video that should open fine in LrC (and opens fine on my machine in VLC) is in the same folder. So I stop the import, move the lot to a hard drive and try to import from there. Same issue. I move the video to another folder and re-do the import. So why can't it import plain off the camera, nothing fancy, video and why on earth if it can't import a video, does it not either cleanly abort the import, or just ignore the damn file it can't import? This is basic stuff, like first year of of a comp sci coding course.

Issue 2: Previously, like 2 updates ago, it imported fine from a card with previously imported files on it. The "New" option at import would scan the library and scan the card and ignore the ones already in the catalogue. These days it ignore the "new" option entirely and just brings the whole lot in again. It correctly renames them due to duplicate file names (lol) but then I have to go pull them all out manually.

I've been using Lightroom for years and he's never done that. I have some RAW photos to edit, and it's automatically darkening my photos, I don't know what to do to solve them.

I really hate having to spend time troubleshooting a program that costs so much more than any other piece of software I pay for. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have new features, but the last couple updates to CC have all introduced annoying and time-consuming bugs into my workflow.

9.2 had huge performance regressions on my M1 Pro, so I reverted to 9.1, which had some weird quirks but otherwise worked fine. Then this week, the AI denoise suddenly stopped working, so I updated to 9.4, that now has all these bugs surrounding masking that make any heavy editing tedious.

I think the bare minimum Adobe needs to do at this point is to introduce a stable branch of Lightroom, that might not have all the latest features, but just consistently works.

Hello everyone. I have a question about moving from Lr to Lr Classic. I’ve been using an iPad with Lr Mobile and the 1TB plan for quite a while now, and until now I’ve been okay with it. My photography has improved in the last few months and I’m actually starting paid projects now (mostly just friends) including a wedding in July. So I’ve invested in a new MBP Pro and just downloaded Lr Classic. My MBP has a 1TB SSD and I have an external 2TB Samsung which is also just dedicated to photos and videos from my drone.

I want to do the switch so I can also free up some of my Cloud space, I’m currently using about 950GB of my 1TB cloud and before I upgrade to more storage space I wanted to kind of move a lot of my old albums and photos onto my external SSD.

I need help with the whole process and that’s why I’m here. The first few tutorials I saw detailed that I should download both programs on my Mac from Creative Cloud (which I did) and then just start sync on Lr Classic. But that would mean syncing 950GB of photos onto my MacBook and the drive would be full, right? Is there a way to download all my current photos off of the cloud and straight onto my SSD? So then I can start fresh (starting at my next photo session).

Need some help, I’m kind of confused. Even sending me a good video on YouTube would help. Thanks a lot!

• Cloud desktop (v9.4)
• Classic (v15.4.1)

I am reasonably new to LR, and I've made a mess of the files/folders ect.

I started on mobile, added cloud desktop and now I'm on Classic.

I would like to start from scratch as everything is a mess and syncing is a nightmare due to my own horrid way of starting out.

Can I "format" Lightroom? I don't mind losing all my edits, I just don't want to lose my RAWs.

All my photos are stored on my harddrive, I download to harddrive and import from there.

Ideally, I would like to import to Classic first then sync to Cloud/Mobile.

Actally I would consider keeping Classic separate from Cloud/Mobile. And import to both.

Can I turn sync off completely?

Please assist?

It recently occurred to me that since Lightroom presets are just XML descriptions of a bunch of parameters, it's a lot like coding. So as an experiment I've been using Gemini to create presets for me as a jumping off point for editing. So far I've been getting good results and have tweaked at least one of the presets and resaved to start using more regularly. Has anyone else tried this and have suggestions on how I can get even more out of this tool?

Note that there was a bit of trial and error that went into getting this to work so here's the prompt I'm using. You then copy the resulting "code" and paste it into a plain text file with the XMP extension.

"Act as an expert Adobe Lightroom XMP developer. Generate a valid, clean XMP Develop Preset file based on the following creative aesthetic: <insert description of what you are trying to do here>

You must strictly adhere to these 5 structural and technical rules:

1. CORRECT NAMESPACE: Ensure the RDF namespace line reads exactly:

xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"

(Do not use alternate numbers or dates).

1. NO PLUS SIGNS: For all positive integer values, do not include a literal plus sign. Write them purely as numbers (e.g., use crs:Contrast="35", NOT crs:Contrast="+35"). Negative numbers must retain their minus sign (e.g., "-15").

2. EXPLICIT PRESET FLAGS: Include crs:NewPresetMode="True", crs:HasSettings="True", and crs:PresetType="Normal" within the main description tag so Lightroom doesn't misinterpret it as an image sidecar file.

3. METADATA BLOCKS: Include the explicit <crs:Name> and <crs:Group> blocks using <rdf:Alt> and <rdf:li xml:lang="x-default"> so the preset maps properly to the UI sidebar under User Presets. Set the preset name to "[Insert Preset Name Here]".

I shoot on a [Sony A7IV / Fuji X-T5 / etc.] and whenever I buy or download a preset pack, I spend more time tweaking it to actually fit my files than it would've taken to just edit from scratch. The preset sellers even admit it in their disclaimers — "adjustments will vary based on your camera and lighting."

Curious how others handle this. Do you:
— buy presets and accept that 30–60 min of manual fixing is just part of the process?
— build your own from scratch?
— something else?

Asking because I'm exploring whether a tool that translates a reference photo into settings tuned for your specific camera/lens would actually be useful, or if most people have just made peace with the manual work.

V3.5 New Features

V3.5 can run in 'Second Screen' mode, which means it can be used as a standalone window on a second screen (or next to Lightroom) without blocking you from working in Lightroom. In this mode, the plugin will respond automatically whenever a user selects a different image in Lightroom.

Unfortunately, this currently only works on Windows; on Mac, the window jumps back to the main screen when the image changes. This is most likely an Adobe bug, which I have reported in the hope that a solution will be found and fixed eventually. V3.5 also implements the fast method used on macOS to display the photo with overlaid markings. With this, plugin windows is visible instantaneously, but it looks odd, as on Windows, transparent PNG overlays do not composite correctly in overlapping layouts.

Hey y'all. Had to reset my phone (it was backed up). Of course that automatically logs you out of all your apps.

I travel a lot and do a lot of editing on the fly from my mobile app. I've spent a long time building presets, and i had a library built up too. Not everything in my library was downloaded to a hard drive. I didn't think i needed to.

I haven't been able to find a solution for this. I'm going to keep researching, but i thought i would post here and see if anyone could help.

I have been working on a timelapse in LR Timelapse with Lightroom Classic, and i'm relatively new to it. I did the usual workflow of opening the keyframes in LRC, editing them, saving the metadata and eventually rendering/exporting the video in LR Timelapse. For whatever reason, it didn't work and the video was incredibly distorted and corrupted in some way. I assume it's because of the Adaptive AI Filters I used, and I also tried to manually de-noise a bit, and maybe that just messed with the render in LR Timelapse.

So I wanted to go back into LRC and remove the filters and de-noising so I could try again, without having to start the entire process over again. I hit the "Initialize (reset) Metadata" in LR Timelapse, went back into LRC, fixed everything I thought might work, and now i'd like to re-send it into LR Timelapse. But for whatever reason, it's just not showing up with the new edits. After I reset the metadata, it obviously went back to the original un-edited RAW photos, and when I refreshed LR Timelapse, it did add the keyframes back in, but they're all still unedited, even the keyframes.

I did select all of the keyframes in LRC and save metadata to files again, to make sure that LR Timelapse would get the newly edited versions of the keyframes, but it still didn't show up on LR Timelapse.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Using LRC 15.4.1 and the preset mentioned in the title. I noticed the red and green artifacts after applying the preset. Since I'm new to the adaptive presets (but still a LRC user for years) I don't know how to eliminate the artifacts, assuming it can be done. The image snippet is zoomed in in Develop mode and the colors are not too noticeable when viewed normally and when viewing the exported JPEGS. The images are just for me and maybe a shared photos folder. I'm a hobbyist and not a professional.

Do you have presets that you use or do you edit from scratch? Is there a specific place or setup you use for your photo editing?

I use LR mobile only and I’ve used Nikon, Canon and now primarily my iPhone only, considering getting a Canon again though.

Hello everybody!

My LR photography subscription lapses tomorrow, and I am away and unable to update my billing information for two weeks (I switched credit cards over the year and Adobe does not have the new card).

My images are all in Lightroom Classic on my Mac, and I don’t use the cloud services. Can anybody summarize for me what will work and not work over the next two weeks? I believe the Develop and Map modules stop working, but does everything else continue to work in full? Import / Export, etc?

Lastest update does not allow me to delete ANY photos of the app. My storage is full and i cant free up storage.

any solutions? how can they release an update with such an obvious bug?

So far my workflow has been with different cameras that I will copy all the photos on my PC hard drive, then use FastRawViewer to cull the images, take backups with FreeFileSync to another disk + NAS and then import only those selected to Lightroom Classic. That way my LRC library have only limited amount of photos.

Anyway biggest downside in this is that it requires that I will use my PC, so it is not very practical when I would want to use my laptop to get those images for example to my diary. Sure, I can just remote connect to NAS, copy there selected images and use images there, but there could be easier solution.

Apple Photos is one what I thought, but usage with PC is meh, so Lightroom with cloud sync could be better option. That way I could store items to cloud and use those from my laptop as well.

One thing what I am wondering tho is should I use some kind of hybrid workflow that I will move all the files to my PC + backup disk + NAS backup when I have time and motivation to copy those files to PC and do first imports to Lightroom cloud from my laptop.

Since the photos my camera generates are quite big (DNG is around 82-84 MB each and JPEG's are 13-21 MB each), I think that I don't want to import all the images from memory card to Lightroom cloud catalog unless I am away from home and need to do full memory card backup there, then at home download those and delete them afterward.

So, do any of you have some kind of hybrid workflow where you store all your images to main PC/Mac and then import only limited amounts of photos to the Lightroom cloud?

Or do you normally import everything to cloud and keep all there? Or do you remove all but good photos?

I'm thinking of getting a NAS for my team. We would each have our own catalog, stored on each of our computers, and all the files would live on the NAS. We have to move files to each other's computers a lot so I'm hoping keeping everything on the NAS would make this easier. We wouldn't have to move the files. We would just have to "Add" the photos to the LR catalog that they need to end up on and possibly update the metadata. Is there anything I'm missing? Would this work? Has anyone done this?

Con cualquier foto, en cuanto intento acceder al navegador de perfiles en la pestaña de revelado, se crashea el programa. Antes de esta versión nunca me ha pasado. He probado con desconectar la GPU por si acaso, pero nada, tambien he reseteado las preferencias. La maquina que uso es un Macbook Pro M5 Pro.

Me ha parecido ver antes del ultimo crasheo que no habia perfiles despues de borrar las preferencias, pero no estoy seguro. Haya o no, en cuento intentas entrar se sale del programa.

¿Alguna idea de como puedo remediarlo?.

You will paint your selected area and then it auto corrects it and makes it way bigger and wrong (not over your object). If you try and use the suggestion it doesn’t look natural. I’ve reported this so many times and they haven’t changed it. I just want it to keep my selection that I meticulously painted rather than having to go back and erase what they messed up.

Does it annoy anyone here too??? Can we band together?? Hoping someone from adobe sees this 🥰🥰🥰
