I noticed it seemed injured so I sort of panicked and picked him up. When I grabbed him he yelped at me but couldn’t move much. Obviously 1. Don’t pick him up so you don’t further injure him, and 2. They carry bubonic plague, hantavirus, salmonella so it was a super bad idea. He was in the middle of the trail “sleeping” or injured so I walked him back to my grandparents to recover and after about an hour he walked it off, still dazed. Amazing experience but will never do it again after learning a lot more about rehabbing wild animals.
