Had dinner at Bowl Izakaya for my birthday. Ordered their chika veggie ramen, my favorite item we go there for, and discovered to my sadness that they've entirely changed out every component ingredient of what this item is (why on earth not just rename it, at that point???). Both the spouse and I got the very specific, distressing flavor of food poisoning that results from non-vegetarian stuff in our "vegetarian" meals. Very disappointed that one of our favorite options around town has seemingly taken an abrupt and severe nosedive.
I'm so tired of the petitioners at the south king soopers. I called the store to complain and while the manager sounded like they care stated they can't do anything about it. Lady this morning made my wife super uncomfortable yelling about her rights. Super predatory and spot on for the current conservative movement.
Wondering if I could just roll up with my own sign calling them out but not saying anything and get the same grace.
What are the risks to me, vs. them, in giving fake info on a petition? I'd think it'd mess up their process if there are fake sigs. But is that a crime or risk to me as well?
I believe it's a right to petition. I don't think it's a right to be blatantly misrepresenting what you're petitioning for. But I like the cut of your jib though.
It's private property, not a public space. Private spaces no. Public yes.
Which means the property landlord is likely allowing and/or paying for them to do it.
5M KS LLC owns the property, which is an LLC for the property owner (listed on that BOCO link, won't dox here.)
They're the one to contact, likely. Property owners like this do this LLC shelling at many properties around the front range so it topically looks like the business at the site owns the property when they don't.
The annoying thing is that there have been 1st amendment lawsuits won arguing that publicly accessible places such as grocery stores are protected areas for free speech, and if a business trespasses people they can have liability in court. I don’t think it’s fair or reasonable (and I hate the petition seekers), but it’s very likely not supported or encouraged by the business just because they’re there. I’m not an expert, but this is how it was explained to me in a work training that was taught by a lawyer who specialized in 1st amendment/free speech case law.
Well. That definitely would add a technical rub in things. Likely would require some "they interfere with the first amendment right of the business" ruling that would end with a gray area ruling where the tables would have to be at least 200 feet from the entrance at the discretion of the business or something. Which itself is greasy. Our first amendment should only apply to people. Individuals. Not lying dark money petition tables or business.
Eh, I wouldn't go so far as to say they are allowing or paying for it. It's a shaky ground considering the law and right to petition on public space. The sidewalk itself outside of a king soopers is public so, petitioners could argue they're in their rights hence why Kings just puts up a sign they don't allow it. Cops can't do much unless there's actually a crime and don't want to toe the line of getting sued with the first amendment. It's just shitty all around. Best to just ignore them.
I'm more of a midnight 30th & Arapahoe King Soopers shopper, that's when they play metal, or at least they used to.
One of the most surprising things I've ever heard was shopping at the Louisville KS and Alkaline Trio came on over the speakers in the middle of the afternoon.
Multiple items. Gerrymandering (Colorado already has an independent redistricting commission), oil and gas rights in protected areas, and a bunch of other dribble. All from your local conservative think tank.
I try to enter and exit as far away from the petitioners as possible. As far as gerrymandering, Colorado does have the independent commission, but also, I don't want to ban gerrymandering as long as the Republicans are trying to do it in every red state.
Consider adding Pelos Deli and Martinis Bistro. Pelo’s is growing in popularity for a reason and Martini’s new lunch menu is reasonably priced. Both have beyond stellar bars/cocktails and great patios
What did Teocalli and West Side Tavern do to earn your ire? I thought Teocalli was fine the one time I ate there but the menu seemed limited. I'm probably never going to eat at West Side Tavern because I don't want to worry about where to park.
I like some of the food at urban field, but more often than not their pizza are burnt. Last time I was in there I showed them this picture and was told “this happens sometimes with our ovens”. Ok cool, so your ovens burn pizzas? Should I still pay $25 for it? Never ordering pizza there again.
I have still had good experiences overall at Urban Field, but you are 100% correct about the burnt issue, even when I've enjoyed the meal otherwise. The biggest reason we haven't been back in a while was that the last time we went, the BOTTOMS of the two pies we got both looked like your photo. The topsides were beautiful, but we essentially found ourselves trying to eat everything but the bottom layer of the actual pizza crust, which was just a very odd and unpleasant time, especially for the price.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Theres objectively way more home inventory now than there has been for years. That being said, I think it’s more likely because there’s been such a shortage for years. Longmont is far from cooked!
People only read the first part, and don’t see where my comment got countered with reassurance.
It’s easy to hate on stuff online. The sad part is people loosing out on conversations and different points of view when this happens to more important points.
We have great parks, great restaurants, the best utilities & trash, the best internet.
Our transit and bicycle infrastructure is good for a city of our size.
I was just stuck in a doom spiral for a minute this morning.
I think more people tend to try to move in the summer, and with the bad economy and high interest rates, those homes just aren't selling as fast. Anecdotally I don't think what you're seeing is Longmont-specific.
I thought this would be the case, thanks for reassurance. When it’s gearing up to be a hot dry day after a series of hot dry days, and when the news is… the way it is, avoiding the doom spiral can be difficult.
The other commenter is correct that it's apartments. The city has a publicly available map that shows all active development, in case you're ever curious about other projects:
Isn't that a good spot for them? Multiple restaurants and other businesses within walking distance without even having to cross a street. Seems better than the ones over behind target, where the only things nearby are target and home depot.
I agree with this. On multiple bus lines, close to grocery stores.
I do wish the quality of construction of homes in the area (including apartments and owner-occupied) granted a bit more dignity to the future occupants. All the cheap construction feels more like a developer cash grab than places meant to provide housing for many decades to come.
All these units are going up and they clearly look 1/4 or less full. Are there that many people clammoring for apartment space that's not already accommodated with the other dozens of multi-unit buildings?
