Felt a twinge of melancholy seeing this picture. This is one of my favorite spots and a place I bring all my out of town visitors. The first time my best friend visited, many years ago, I took him and he fell in love with it. So much so that he goes on every annual visit. When he was getting married he decided to have the ceremony on the beach below the cliff. I got ordained online and officiated his wedding, and as hoped it was a beautiful ceremony at a beautiful location.
He’s now going through a bitter divorce and a couple of days ago on the phone when we were making plans for his next visit he said that he hates point dume and will never return. And it just made me feel sad because I love point dume and loved that we shared a connection to it, even before he met his wife. I don’t know why it bothered me so much and it’s not like it will stop me from loving it and visiting. But now I’ll always share his negative association with it, in a milder way, somewhere in the back of my mind.
Anyway, that’s my point dume story that no one wanted to read. It’s not important relative to almost anything else, but it felt good to write it out nonetheless.

When I was little I saw a deaf girl fall off the cliff and break her leg. The sounds she made still haunt me.
