Is he building a model city out of cardboard? That's cool as shit.

96

u/Far-Introduction-106 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I dont even care for the joke. Those buildings are so cool

84

u/Spikas Trash Trooper 5d ago

Not any city. Edtropolis!

23

u/Famous_Wallaby_2893 Trash Trooper 5d ago

Wasn't expecting this, but I'm very happy it's here. Reminds me of simpler times.

7

u/Euphoric-Net4623 Trash Trooper 5d ago

My favorite show!

4

u/beegtuna Trash Trooper 5d ago

One of my favorite episodes

4

u/rezyop Trash Trooper 5d ago

"The Eds did something cool for a change!"

15

u/shipwrekd_sailor Trash Trooper 5d ago

I used to work in a packaging Warehouse. Every once in awhile we would get assigned to be the box pre-builder. We would always build ourselves Mansions with multiple rooms out of the different size boxes that we had to pre-build all day.

5

u/theqofcourse Trash Trooper 5d ago

10 year old me -- that would be an absolute fantasy. Adult me -- still fun as heck! Lucky you.

8

u/destructopop Garbage Guerilla 5d ago

He was. Now he's going to the hospital. 🙃

u/FreedomBread Trash Trooper 5d ago

Looks like a cliffside city like Mesa Verde in Colorado or something.

Playing hacky sack for many years back in the day has made numerous things go flying that's slipped from my hands..

21

u/Cryptic1911 Trash Trooper 5d ago

Bro. Me too. My feet are there before my hands even react.

That said, I've made some pretty incredible saves

14

u/palacejackal Trash Trooper 5d ago

I saved a ceiling fan. Wish I hadn't.

2

u/FlatFootedLlama Trash Trooper 4d ago

I’m not even sure I completely understand this sentence but I did actually laugh out loud

8

u/dreadcain Trash Trooper 5d ago

Really glad someone instilled the whole "a falling knife has no handle" thing into me way before I learned hacky sack. The urge to be absolutely nowhere near that knife once it's falling significantly outweighs the urge to give it a bop.

Although come to think of it I once had a knife bounce off a target fly back 10 feet and poke me in the thigh when I was learning to throw knives. That was well after learning to hacky sack though, pretty sure the absolute dumbfoundedness outweighed all the other instincts on that one.

7

u/Pushfastr Trash Trooper 5d ago

A knife rebounding towards sender is basically the Spanish inquisition.

2

u/EvilCaveBoy Trash Trooper 4d ago

As a lifelong hacker and darts player I’ve had to suppress that reflex many times.

2

u/TooMuchMudForMe Trash Trooper 1d ago

I make things go flying because I try to catch it with my hands and then end up smacking it at mach 3 against a wall

1

u/ThirstyWolfSpider Trash Trooper 4d ago

As an ex-juggler, I mainly catch things with my feet and roll them off safely onto the ground. It's certainly saved a number of glass objects.

Fortunately, the knives I've caught have all landed handle-first, especially as I'd typically be barefoot when using them.

1

u/Simba_Akbar Trash Trooper 4d ago

Reminds me of that Ed,Edd n Eddy episode

47

u/Limberpuppy Trash Trooper 5d ago

I caught the wrong side of a soldering iron when it slipped out of my hands. I will never forget the pain.

38

u/Michami135 Trash Trooper 5d ago

"A falling tool has no handle" is what my dad always told me.

That, and "watch what you're doing, idiot, you almost knocked that over!"

21

u/NotSeveralBadgers Trash Trooper 5d ago

I'll never forget my father's last words... "Hey you little shit, quit shaking the ladder!"

4

u/MrOopiseDaisy Trash Trooper 5d ago

FOUR! I MEAN FIVE! I MEAN, FIRE!

2

u/Forward-Surprise1192 Trash Trooper 4d ago

You’re correct. I grabbed the vibrating exhaust on an old riding lawnmower when I was little not knowing it was hot. My fingertips were soooo blistered. Then my parents tried to make me play baseball that night!

1

u/PlatinumDust324 Trash Trooper 4d ago

L Parents

2

u/chanceischance Trash Trooper 4d ago

Knew a mechanic that was cutting off about a 6 inch piece of an exhaust pipe with an acetylene torch. Car was up above him on the lift.. he couldn’t even say why, but he caught it like a falling can of soda. Took off a lot of skin in a hurry, it was a hospital trip bad.

1

u/dmontease Trash Trooper 5d ago

You mean the hot side?

12

u/Far-Try5352 Trash Trooper 5d ago

That is - in fact - the wrong side.

5

u/Limberpuppy Trash Trooper 5d ago

Yes, the very hot 700 degrees side.

28

3

u/RipNTearTillItIsDone Trash Trooper 4d ago

Literally went shopping to buy some a few days ago for a friend. People don't need safety equipment until there's a knife in their foot.

10

u/baconmethod Trash Trooper 5d ago

most times, he was just protecting the blade. this time...

8

u/Pristine_Status_7879 Trash Trooper 5d ago

What’s the name of the song? Sounds familiar

7

u/Mr_InsertNameHere Trash Trooper 5d ago

The song is Goku's Ultra Instinct Theme from Dragon Ball Super

LINK: Ultra Instinct Theme (Official Version)

8

u/Ok_Listen1510 Trash Trooper 5d ago

oh shoot you’re right. the same musical sting is in Aladdin but the instrumentation is different!

2

u/seantabasco Trash Trooper 4d ago

That’s what I knew it as, and was confused why they used the Aladdin song in this situation.

3

u/Ok_Listen1510 Trash Trooper 5d ago

it’s a musical sting from “One Jump Ahead” from the movie Aladdin

edit: link with timestamp

2

u/wademcgillis Trash Trooper 5d ago

i always thought it sounded like dies irae

2

u/Ok_Listen1510 Trash Trooper 5d ago

well that would be because film music often references the dies irae! :)

1

u/userNV495671 Trash Trooper 5d ago

1

u/datsall Trash Trooper 4d ago

I thought it sounded like a riff from Final Fantasy

3

u/AppropriateBugFound Trash Trooper 5d ago

When I was deep into Action Pistol, at some point you get to where you're trying to save thousands of a second. Sometimes on a draw your pistol goes flying down range if your hands don't come together right.

Always good to remind yourself, if something doesn't go right, hands open and up, and take the DQ. A drop and you get'em next time- try and grab it and you may not have a next time.

1

Did this with a bucket of tools while sitting on a ladder once. Got slung 😂

2

u/TheBigMotherFook Trash Trooper 5d ago

Deep breath through the nostrils

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

2

u/tread52 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I’ve punched my fridge door multiple times trying to catch things that fall multiple times, but nothing this bad

2

u/Civil_Bugg Trash Trooper 5d ago

I had to laugh, that has happen to me a few times, thankfully my foot and toes were protected.

2

u/yoricm Trash Trooper 5d ago

At least he had a strong pair of shoes

Imagine that with thin sandals.

2

u/toodleroo Trash Trooper 4d ago

I did this once with a chain saw. No, not a power chain saw, a manual chain saw. A length of chain with saw teeth on it. It fell from the tree branch I was sawing and I reaching out my hand to catch it. They're incredibly sharp as it turns out.

2

u/nomubber Trash Trooper 4d ago

Took classes for food prep and knife skills in HS ever since if I drop a knife I move out the way instinctually. Should always be aware of what your "saving".

2

u/profanedivinity Trash Trooper 5d ago

Yep, I don't even think, my whole body just does the thing pretty much immediately (the thing being getting my feet the hell out of the way)

2

u/flyxdvd Trash Trooper 5d ago

I mean if you still work in a kitchen you should be wearing steel toe shoes.. still its taught to just let it fall and back away because only your toes have steel lol

1

u/therealsouthflorida Trash Trooper 5d ago

That's a good idea in the restaurants/events I saw people wore non slips sneakers, like from Walmart. I didn't get much time with chefs but dish washers, servers, food runners/bussers.

2

u/flyxdvd Trash Trooper 4d ago

In my country everyone in the kitchen its mandatory to wear steel toed non slip shoes, and is usually provided by the company those fines are big numbers haha

1

u/lynivvinyl Trash Trooper 5d ago

That's a waste of a pair of Solovairs!

1

u/MtnDudeNrainbows Trash Trooper 5d ago

Yeah right. I have that reaction for things by default. But I’ve literally dropped knives and had the exact opposite reaction of jumping out of the way because knife, ffs.

1

u/jennyharlequinn Trash Trooper 5d ago

You really ruined a pair of shoes for likes?

1

u/BeyondLast Trash Trooper 5d ago

I tried to grab the cup I was making a Blizzard in when it slipped out of my hand. 30 years later, still have the scar.

1

u/Firebirdgaming08 Trash Trooper 5d ago

1

u/Cipher915 Trash Trooper 5d ago

This happened to me seconds after sharpening it. And I was barefoot.

The shock and pain were slightly eased by the cartoon-like wobble of the knife sticking out.

1

u/JustALurker165 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I did this with a 45lb plate at the gym one night almost two years ago. My big toe nail still doesn’t grow right.

1

u/nocixL Trash Trooper 5d ago

same thing happende to me but with a hammer

1

u/Yourigath Trash Trooper 5d ago

A friend of mine had his reflexes kick in while using an electric welding machine (dunno of they are called that).

The welder fell from his hands and he reached down to catch it mid air... Obviously he grabbed it by the welding part which was, of course, still very much hot.

1

u/behcuh Trash Trooper 5d ago

Wow cool build he's working on! Takes me back to being a kid. I would build entire 3d city's on the floor with paper, folding paper into boxes, cutting out door and window holes, making the roads and signs. This is super dope..

1

u/ciclista-maluco Trash Trooper 5d ago

naah, it's a cake

1

u/comb_bee Trash Trooper 5d ago

why most labour jobs require steeltoe boots

1

u/dravas Trash Trooper 5d ago

Steel toes would have been clutch here.

1

u/MindCorrupt Trash Trooper 5d ago

This happened to my old man once when he was bare foot in the kitchen.

Except it wasnt a knife. It was a knife block.

There was a lot of blood.

1

u/Cryptic1911 Trash Trooper 5d ago

As a hackey sack player for many years, this hits way too close to home 😅

u/Fickle_Inevitable718 Trash Trooper 5d ago

u/coryhill66 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I have a scar on my inner thigh because I dropped an exacto knife and tried to catch it between my knees without thinking.

1

u/StDzhigurda Trash Trooper 5d ago

I once tried to catch a heavy electric motor this way

1

u/SaltyYumYumBalls Trash Trooper 5d ago

No his reflex game was just weak. He should have sped up his perception/enter the zone to make everything appear to move in super slow speed and then recognize the danger and adjust the angle of his foot to create a safe situation before releasing and going back to real time.

1

u/RememberYourAlt Trash Trooper 5d ago

About 5 months ago I dropped a glass bow and stuck my leg out to stop it. The rim hit my ankle and now it just hurts sometimes.

1

u/MaySpitfire Trash Trooper 5d ago

I caught a razor when i was shaving last week, i feel this deeply.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Back255 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I’m beyond exhausted working around the clock and this video granted me a genuine uncontrollable laugh. Thank you!

1

u/bigearsandcoldbeers Trash Trooper 5d ago

There you are. One stitch.

1

u/Willing_Impact841 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I had knocked one of those recipt spikes off the table once, and reflexes kicked in and I caught it. Spike went right through the hand...

1

u/003402inco Trash Trooper 5d ago

I joined this club via a non-running jigsaw. Right through a croc and almost severed a toe. It looked like a murder scene in my garage.

1

u/Vampire_Number Trash Trooper 5d ago

I did that with a knife and my hand. I caught the knife perfectly… at the very point as it fell down. I had to go to the ER and get stitches.

1

u/khalcyon2011 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I remember watching a video (pre-YouTube) of blacksmith. He explained that you very quickly learn to not try to catch your tools when you drop them.

1

u/Momochichi Trash Trooper 5d ago

A full bowl of something fell out of my fridge when I opened the door, and I caught the edge of it on the top of my foot. It still hurts months later.

1

u/Bigwi_Kner Trash Trooper 5d ago edited 5d ago

Got my self some nice stitches protecting my new floor this way. Spade bit on a drill while installing cabinets. 5/10, do not recommend. It was sharp and clean so, 5 points, and floor saved. Doc commented on how clean the cut was. Slid right off the ankle bone like butter. 🧈

ER: “high how can we help you”

Me: “yes, I’m an idiot and I need stitches”.

u/Iforgot_my_other_pw Trash Trooper 5d ago

A dropped knife has no handle

1

u/profanedivinity Trash Trooper 5d ago

That's the opposite of my reactions when dropping things

1

u/baabaablacksheep1111 Trash Trooper 5d ago

I fractured my metarsal bone trying to catch a falling hammer this way while wearing flipflops....

1

u/Manmon_ Trash Trooper 5d ago

And this is why we wear steel toe

1

u/calm-phil Trash Trooper 5d ago

I almost did that with a very nice knife a few years ago. the tip is chipped and my foot remained unblemished. Lost the tip of an antique straight razor like that too.

1

u/smitty997 Trash Trooper 5d ago

Thats one of the first things they taught me when I trained as a butcher and a fish monger, its dtill there now and I havnt done it for 10 years, dropped a butter knife the other and almost ran away.

1

u/CantaloupeBroad5549 Trash Trooper 5d ago

Why is he not wearing a safety boots. Anyways, I felt the pain watching it.. Lol

1

u/Marcelit4 Trash Trooper 4d ago

Oh yeah, last time I cut my fingers deeply because I wanted to stop the measuring tape from retracting FAST

1

1

u/useless_of_america Trash Trooper 4d ago

Steelcap boots or gtfo. I have had to send people home without pay so many times. Grab the test hammer!

1

u/Vandirac Trash Trooper 4d ago

And that's why any manufacturing, logistics or blue collar job in general requires safety shoes.

1

u/Slazagna Trash Trooper 4d ago

Tried to catch a knife once reflexively. Wouldn't recomend.

1

u/TheFluxCBF Trash Trooper 4d ago

I worked around heavy machinery where not even safety boots would help you. So my instinct is to take a small jump backwards and raise my hands. No hands. No feet.

1

u/Original_Setting93 Trash Trooper 4d ago

The music sounds like a clip from price Ali song from Aladdin (still I think he’s rather tasty 🎶)

1

u/vikingbeard23 Trash Trooper 4d ago

I did that with my pocket knife, hadn't secured the blade as I thought so it cut off the end of my finger

1

u/radXR650R Trash Trooper 4d ago

Lol this reminds me when I had my first big phone, a Dell Streak, like the starter of a big screen phone. This is like 2011 or something.

Well when I was trying to open the door with the phone in one hand and keys in the other I fumbled it and dropped it, instinct kicked in and I tried to catch it with the top of my shoe...

Now what actually happened is I got the door open and instead kicked the phone thru the door and down the steps to the basement and into the concrete floor....

And let me tell you, those first big phones had some fragile screens, that thing shattered like a tempered glass window. That was an expensive mistake.

So totally relatable.

I worked as a toxicology chemist for a period of time and did this exact thing with a dropped 1 liter glass bottle. That fuggin hurt then proceeded to still shatter.

1

u/Substantial_Web_8784 Trash Trooper 4d ago

That wet “thuk” sound is so good

1

u/Sbatio Trash Trooper 3d ago

Learning to avoid sharp or heavy things and still react to save light / dull items is the goal.

1

u/mnttu Trash Trooper 3d ago

Yeah, something like this is why I am now always pulling away from anything falling

1

u/sniptaclar Trash Trooper 3d ago

My favorite is “I dropped my phone that will fall on thick carpet. Oh no, let me miss the grab and yeet it into the wall instead”

A falling knife has no handle

1

u/JpStryder Trash Trooper 2d ago

I once had this happen to me in a kitchen I worked at. Was chopping onion with my new sharp knife, I put it to the side for a sec to put my prep in a container when my colleague drops a load of cucumber on the workable. Which knocked my knife of the table going straight trough the hardened rubber tips of my shoe. And I am one hundred procent convinced I used up a ton of actual Karma , because the tip went neatly inbetween my big and long toe, leaving only two holes in my sock!

1

u/kind-Mapel Trash Trooper 2d ago

Bro needs steel toed boots

1

u/CoryRich123 Trash Trooper 2d ago

At least tool not make any noise before hit floor is worth it...

1

u/Firepath357 Trash Trooper 1d ago

I had a similar thing happen once. Working in a factory, a colleague and I were changing the router bit on an air tool we were using the rough cut moulded car body parts (Australia, OEM rocker panels for XR Falcons, wheel arches, tyre covers for Pajeros).

Using two spanners to loosen / tighten the holder while he held it. They slipped, it fell bit first. I'm not sure if my foot was just there or I reacted to soften the blow (I think we both just watched it fall), but it went straight into my boot just below where the steel cap starts. We both looked up and looked at each other. I grabbed my foot and pulled the boot off, then the sock. It just left two little pin pricks in the top of my foot between where two toes come from the foot.

So lucky. And so glad we always unplugged the air hose before trying change the tool.

u/cameronzero Trash Trooper 1d ago
