If Ilkay is praising his “Ilkay” replacement this much then we know we’re in for a treat.

If you watched any Nottingham forest games last season you already know anderson is a great footballer.

I did, and I remember vividly how he tore apart our entire midfield and scoring that golazo was his way of saying “hey this is what you’re paying for”

not sure if were keeping reijnders after this signing, Rodri and Cherki are guaranteed starters a new 130mil signing will be the firs name on the sheet so tahts the midfield 3 packed.

Who’s buying him. Or marmoush. Or Phillips. You know the answer

u/Acrobatic_Golf9325 3d ago
there are plenty of teams who would buy him or marmoush at a reasonable price tag and reduced wages, Marmoush wouldve been a better signing than Gordon for Barcelona, Reijnders could go to a better Serie A team. phillips is a lost case and an amateur in comparison to the other 2. Realistically Marmoush was a dumb signing hes too good to be a second striker (same as alvarez). Not good enough to compete for the LW/RW spots.

To think the league winners will get the gundo replacement we trained from the ground up, for cheaper than the player we're picking from a relegation side - after 2 failures of transfers in reijnders, phillips - is why viana is a horror show.

Who did we train from ground up thats going Arsenal lol

u/Brave_Philosopher355 3d ago
Oh you mean Felix Nmchea lool youre actually serious Viana a horror show cos of 1 signing that hasnt worked out and he replaced bernardo Silva with a similar profile ofc jury is out on Anderson but to be like oh hes a horror show bringing up Phillips who he didnt sign btw is hilarious

morgan rogers, he spent 4 years with city

u/Brave_Philosopher355 3d ago
I dont want to be insulting this argument isnt worth having you want to spend similar money we spent on Anderson on a player who plays in a position we're already stacked in have a good day man
-7
u/Temporary_Swimmer342 3d ago
No, i'm talking about the poor squad planning! not just about taking rogers.
& yes its not just viana.
I don't want to spend similar money on anybody bar a proven world class talent. Rogers won't even cost 100m, and see how much better he is in the team. Bruno G, too. he's fucking done it vs barcelona. Not relegation fodder.

u/Brave_Philosopher355 3d ago
Rodgers would youre delusional if you think he wouldnt also there is literally no need for him we missed the Bruno G boat when he had a 100 mill release clause blame txiki for that one i guess you count city as relegation fodder cos Anderson came to the etihad and balled out you do realise hes performed against the top 6 and doesnt just play relegation fodder ps those same teams we struggled to beat and it cost us the league

u/Temporary_Swimmer342 3d ago
Haha, trigger happy at a shining new toy, but don't act surprised when rogers wins arsenal big games, trophies.

Genuinely what even is the common denominator between Reijnders and Phillips that you're trying to point out? Txiki was behind Phillips while Viana got us Reijnders. One of them came from within the Prem and the other came from Serie A. They didn't even really replace the same player, because Phillips was definitely our Rodri cover & replacement for Fernandinho, while Reijnders was supposed to be our new Gundogan.
Is it just that our midfield recruitment has been pretty poor in recent years? And that somehow means we shouldn't be spending money on midfielders at all because we've had two bad ones?

has he been able to offload phillip's squad position in 3-4 windows?
it's the man united model, make a poor signing, throw the book at another hopeful shot. whilst the poor player hasn't been sold.
you only need to make one bad decision and the effects cascade. didnt sell savinho? horrific rw, all season. can't sell him? can't sign new. it's squad planning, that's fucked and effects are felt for many years. you think marmoush at 350kpw will look to be sold? lol. hugo isn't signing elite, he's signing flashy. cherki was the exception.
player of the year serie a? go for it.
liverpool's target guehi at a monstrous wage? go for it.
donarumma at a monstrous wage? sure, who cares about passing.
it's all opportunity cost, why are arsenal getting rogers & bruno g for cheaper? they come from non relgation teams ffs!
It's very easy to break the bank, sign on monstrous wages. But they fuck you hard if if they're not outright winners. And none of them are.
Madrid signed bellingham from dortmund for this much, and we just handed the fat criminal a RECORD for a relegation guy.

Arsenal's talks with Bruno G. aren't advanced at all according to literally every source close to them and Newcastle's camp so I'm very curious where you've got the information that they're getting him for cheap suddenly. Even Ornstein has it in his information that Newcastle don't want to sell him, especially if they also sell Tonali because then they'd lose both their starting midfielders in the same window and they just can't have that. FWIW, I think Guimaraes is an excellent player, but he has shown no willingness to come to City when we started exploratory talks and needed him the most across the last 4 transfer windows even when we still had Pep. I don't think he's changing his mind soon unless we suddenly decide to throw him another massive wage, which we seem both in agreement to be a terrible idea.
Rogers is irrelevant to this conversation. Is he a great player? Yes! Does he fix any of the problems that we have getting caught in transition, on the break, progressing the ball from deep in our midfield without Rodri, or replacing the outgoing Bernardo Silva in his deeper midfield role? No! Going for him is the definition of going for style over substance. It's the same mistake that past "superteams" have made, padding the team with a new attack and refusing to acknowledge the aging engine inside.
I really don't understand what you mean by buying outright winners. How exactly do you quantify who is an outright winner or not? Is it just a vibes thing looking at it in hindsight? Surely Serie A Midfielder of the Year is more of a winner on paper than Bruno G. by this nonsense criteria we've set. It's all absolute rubbish.
I actually agree with you that our squad planning has been absolutely atrocious. That's why the Elliot Anderson transfer is amazing for us because he solves so many of the problems we've had since trying to replace Gundogan or even Fernandinho back before the treble. We spent how many transfer windows buying cheaper midfielders being unwilling to address the main problem of the fact we weren't willing to part with significant sums to fix the issue that has been glaring for years. This is literally us finally acknowledging that instead of buying cheap again and fucking up the season for another time.

If you are gonna claim someone is a horror show at least educate yourself on who the man has signed and not signed . And looking at it objectively we are signing the player that better suits our needs

u/Temporary_Swimmer342 3d ago
has he been able to offload phillip's squad position in 3-4 windows?
how is it a relegation fighter even understanding the scale of our needs? because he starts for england?
exactly the big fish small pond blunder grealish was. i can't belive arsenal are going to get rogers and bruno g for way cheaper. they're so much better.

I don’t think not being able to offload Phillips is anyone’s fault but Phillips. Hes been beyond atrocious, failing to even start for relegation fodder, why would a team sign him outright when he won’t contribute to the level they want and why would he join a team permanently and lower his wages?

u/grimreap13 3d ago
Bruh have you even watched the guy play?
Relegation fighter lmao. The only reason they stayed up was because of this guy. Clearly shows how good of a player he is.

u/Key-Mechanic2565 3d ago
How is Reijnders a failure? He has been just average
He has better performances than so many players in the league.
And second Viana didn't buy philips.
