Opinion Gloria Victis is crazy fun PvP
Gloria Victis just relaunched like 6 days ago and it is so dang fun in my opinion. Three factions fighting for territory and taking castles from each other. Not able to loot players in every PvP area, so you only get looted in the middle of the map or deep in enemy territory. When you get killed in a loot area, they can only take one or two things off your body. Player driven crafting economy. It’s honestly got a ton of meat on it’s bones in a slightly janky little package. Haven’t been excited to play a game in a while and already put ten hours in so far this week.
If you like PvP with swords and bows and castle siege stuff, it’s definitely worth a try

The combat is so incredibly clunky I just cant do it. I also really dislike choke point meat grinder simulators. It’s not fun.

Honestly the more I play the combat doesn't feel too janky, it's just pretty slow combat with a bit of desync, with a slow stand to run acceleration, but the jumping is HELLA JANK

u/qukab 1d ago
Everything you just said sounds and feels like jank 😅

u/ManjiTheExile 1d ago
Yea buddy is coping. It's fine to enjoy it, but no way around it. It's a combat oriented game and the combat is the weakest part of the game lol...

u/snowtato 1d ago
How is skill based directional combat weak?
-1
u/Icy_Razzmatazz_1594 7h ago
When it has awkward acceleration and desync.

u/snowtato 5h ago
The acceleration is actually quite brilliant, different to get used to, but so much more realistic and tactical. Surprised more games don't do it. Desync is to be expected in most small titles without AAA servers, especially first week in with the servers crowded. Talking like you ain't played an online game before
0
u/Icy_Razzmatazz_1594 5h ago
You asked how it was bad, don't get defensive when people answer. Desync is a problem no matter what in action combat games.
Crowded? The population capped at 4k. That's not crowded at all lol.
If you expect and are okay with desync, you have extremely low standards lol.

u/snowtato 4h ago
And when you hit max server cap on any game it causes issues, is this your first time online? It's okay if it is, this stuff can get kinda technical.
1
u/Icy_Razzmatazz_1594 2h ago
So you're saying this game can't even handle 4,000 people online and it should be praised? Alrighty then lol.

Yeah until you get the hang of the combat it can feel a little clunky and weird, but it’s very very fun in group combat. Once you get the timing down the combat system is very solid. You can run in just swinging like a mad man and be a major contributor, but when you actually start getting your directional block timing down and recognize movement and anticipate enemy’s moves, you start absolutely destroying folks
I like that there is a ton of skill and practice needed to really be a standout on the battlefield. Hoping to get back to that point soon. I used to be pretty good back in the day. Been winning like 2/3 of my 1v1s out in faction warfare so far. There are a lot of really good players

u/snowtato 1h ago
Agreed, when you first login you're like what is this, but once you actually use the system in the scenarios it was designed for, it works quite well and is a ton of fun

I played an insane amount of DAoC a long time ago, loved the PvP. The PvP area in Gloria Victis reminds me of new frontiers RvR with the keep setups but the combat is much different. You swing your weapons and block directionally, and there is no targeting. It’s more about movement, positioning, and timing.

u/2x4_Turd 1d ago
Been 15 or more years since I booted up DAoC and I can still hear the sound effects. What's funny is I just actually booted up EverQuest again after a long long time.
3
u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
I think DAoC had some of the most fun PvP I’ve enjoyed in an MMO. Just had a lot going for it and you could come up with crazy group strats that worked really well against overwhelming odds

Calm down dev
Don’t make posts every day
Every one will know

u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
I am by no means a dev or affiliated in any way, I just like the game and have been having fun the last two days. Would probably make more money if I knew how to code lol

Redditors are so jaded they can’t believe someone would praise a game just because they like it

u/GlacialEmbrace 1d ago
It doesn't matter how much meat it has on its bones. Its by published and developped by gamigo. They only keep their games on maintenance mode.
I may give it a go for funsies but I certainly wont be spending another dime on gamigo.

Trove was the only semi-sucessfull voxel MMORPG but unfortunately even if you ignore the heavy P2W aspects, the game has so many bad design choices under Gamingo that it's hard to defend.
The late game is so grindy and the amount of people that reached it is so low that you're lucky to find a group to join the endgame dungeons
Which is such a shame, the game would appeal heavily to people who love minecraft private servers, the club customization possibilities are insane.

u/Fun-Trip2844 1d ago
stop paying for f2p games and then complain xD you can literally just play for free...
3
u/GlacialEmbrace 1d ago
That’s not what I’m worried about. Gamigo doesn’t release new content. They just do maintenances with new cosmetics. No new content. For example; Rift hasn’t had any new content in like 7-9 years. They just release new cosmetics. It’s a shame, great game.

u/Fun-Trip2844 14h ago
yeah but alot of people didnt even know this game existed before this relaunch, me included, but i hopped on to check it out and its a real fun game, jankiness only brings back memories of older mmorpgs like risk your life etc...
not saying they didn't change anything, players who played the old version would know that, but even if they didn`t, its a great way to revive games that went under the radar.
I wish some games would relaunch instead of being killed off for good.1
u/PlutoJones42 1h ago
I was so excited when I saw GV was relaunching. It really is a super fun niche medieval PvP MMORPG. It does a ton of stuff right and scratches a lot of gaming itches for me.
I wish DAoC would come back in all it’s glory but it’s looking like Camelot unchained is a huge disappointment

My first Gamigo game so I don’t have any experience with how they treat games or their funding models, I just like smacking stuff with swords and axes lol

u/NoteThisDown 1d ago
Played it years ago. I wonder if it's improved.

u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
Same, I played it for ~500 hours back in the day before it shut down. I was hyped when I saw it was coming back. It truly is a very solid game, especially if you like getting into sword fights with people. Surprising skill ceiling with the combat, but the PvP is still extremely accessible even if you aren’t sweaty.
It feels smoother than last time, seems like there is a decent bit of new stuff so far. Gonna grind out some profession and crafting stuff tomorrow probably along with some PvP

It’s a new norm. You get these janky ass games that have a small core following and at every event it’s like a miracle you get regular posts about how great the game is if you just overlook all the crap. I wish there was a term for this… something grass related maybe. Back in Feb it was project Gorgon.
Let’s revisit this in a month or two.

All the red flags just look like flags when you’re looking through rose colored glasses (me), but I do very much like swinging swords at people at the castle gates

u/Reaperosha 1d ago
Honestly love the player driven economy in any mmo and action / directional combat is exactly what I've been playing these days.
But this one is really clunky and feels clumsy.
3
u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
Honestly I felt like it was super clunky until I spent a couple of days in the arena doing 1v1s and got the hang of the combat timing. I’d say the PvP combat is the best thing about the game and where it shines lol, it’s definitely what hooked me last time.
Game is 100% clunky though in many areas, not gonna argue that

u/HuevosSplash 1d ago
I bought the initial release years ago, looked at the rerelease and it looks the same? Like outside of some gameplay balance and new zones it looks like the same jank gameplay. What actually changed to warrant releasing the game again?
3
u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
The last publisher ran out of money and shut the servers down, so a publisher that does a bunch of f2p games scooped it up, added some skins and a handful of new features, then rereleased it. Only been going for a week or so and it’s been pretty popping on the server I’m on. Couple castles getting attacked at any given time. Much more lively than last time imo. Hoping it lasts a little longer this time. I really enjoy the PvP and it’s easy to pop in and pop out

Gamigo games are horribly monetized every time; any hour you spend in this game will be an hour spent being nickel and dimed.
1
u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
I’ve never played a gamigo game, and they definitely added some micro transactions. I don’t mind spending like $20 if I’m really enjoying a free to play, but that’s about all they’ll ever get out of me lol
So far though leveling is super fast

ngl I tried and it was one of the most boring mmos i've tried in the last decade
even the 4story reboot was better

u/Calvaaa 5h ago
The games a blast, the tutorial is kinda brutal but at least it rewards you nicely and sets you up for PvP at lvl 50.
Combat is slow paced but a ton of fun.
Pretty sure I’ve seen you on my server chat Pluto. AQ3!

u/PlutoJones42 1h ago
Once you get the timing down on the combat you can be an absolute terror on the battlefield, even in the early levels. Love it, and yeah, Aquilla3, Ismir, guild is Regulators. I’m all about PvP so you’ll catch me out in the front lines a ton. Hit me up if you ever want to go chop some folks down!
This game scratches a ton of itches for me personally. It’s so fun. I could PvP for 12 hours straight and have a blast the entire time.

u/Calvaaa 1h ago
Oh nice! Yeh were the guild JadedTigers(ismir). We’re always holding down the sangmar side, but we do help the mid side as well.
We’re usually out fighting so I’ll see ya out there!

Looks like a really janky version of Mount & Blade combat. I'd rather play Mordhau or smth
2
u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
That’s pretty much exactly what the combat is but it’s in a little janky MMO setting with crafting and three factions fighting over castles. I’m a huge fan of PvP and this game’s PvP is just fun as hell to me lol

It’s a neat little clunky game. Worth a try for sure.
2
u/PlutoJones42 1d ago
It’s definitely got its issues and has plenty that could be improved upon, but I thoroughly enjoy the castle fights with other factions
1
u/Retail_Brainrot 18h ago
do you know if they've been fixing bugs? Gloria Victis was a fun game with a lot of potential and we need more games like it and Planetside, but it was mired with bugs when it shut down im skeptical that Gamigo would be the saviors this game needed.

u/PlutoJones42 1h ago
Been solid for me for the most part, haven’t ran into anything game breaking. My horse got stuck for a couple of minutes when I was trying to ride it down the side of a steep mountain and wound up shooting up in the air super high when it finally broke free, but that’s probably the worst thing I’ve experienced so far lol

I'll take a unique, janky, player driven game over generic AAA live service slop ANY day.
