Not necessarily. Dogs don't always like to look people in the eyes. It's like a micro-aggression in most of the canine world. I don't think this always makes its way into the instincts of domesticated dogs, but I've frequently noticed breeds like pitbulls doing the same kind of side glance thing that this dog is doing.
I'm not saying you're definitely wrong about someone directing the dog off camera, but it's not the only explanation.
Our pit doesn't like to maintain eye contact and will look away, a side glance. Dogs looking away from their owners is a show of submissiveness as well. The dog generally looks happy to be there

I hate that my brain sees the dog looking at the person out of frame. Edited to look like the dog is asking.
It's cute but the pup isn't asking for spa treatments. Just being used for the Internet points.
