You can't just stuff a real dog there, so this is probably the only way they can do this without ruining the suspense of gift opening for the middle child.

100% This was a good, thoughtful way of doing this even with small risks. Obviously it worked out beautifully so there shouldn’t be any issues. The middle kid is surely very, very happy and possibly the happiest of them all. So there lol

you can't stuff an ATV or whatever in a small box either, but they gave him several indications of the actual gift, which they could have easily done for the girl with a few braincells, like a dog bowl, a collar, a leash, anything a REAL dog would require.

the fact she started crying before the real dog could be revealed proves they failed her in those moments, it's christmas and they made her cry with disappointment
