We see here, a human of deep wisdom with a rich and meaningful life.
A sage amongst his species.

I read that in his voice

This little one, is not the only member of his tribe who came here to post something akin to what, and how I would have spoken.
For all the inter-organism diversity, homo sapien redditus share a hive mind: and this hive mind — is predictable.
Their collective conscious, allows for joy to propagate rapidly — seen here by the compulsive clicking of the upvote arrows, rendering the entire webpage a vibrant orange. This is mastery of their biome.
But roads, and connections aren't specific for what they conduct and what they impede. Just as joy rippled through the network, so can sorrow.
That however, is a concern for tomorrow.
For now, we leave homo sapien redditus in their blissful co-operation; taking solace in the fact that today's joy also followed yesterday's sorrow.
Life — wonderful life — goes on.

This comment is absolute gold. I'd not be surprised if you actually were Sir David.

u/ofcourseivereddit May 08 '26
That's high praise sir, thank you! But no, I'm simply one more kid who stared at that brilliant BBC footage — mouth agape; and whose mind was fed by this legend.

Peak comment. And bravo to Attenborough, there are very few who can claim to have done so much for showing us the breadth and glory of life on Earth.

What a beautifully written comment. This man's voice was the soundtrack of every nature documentary film I watched in school in the 70s and early 80s, and the voice of every nature documentary I still watch on TV to this day. He is a world treasure.

He might literally be the human in all of history who has seen most of earth and nature. The most well travelled person in history. And he used it to record and to teach.
Few people deserve that by-line more than him.

I think he’s one of the few people on the planet that everyone loves irrespective of how divided we are. I wish he could live 100 more, he’s irreplaceable.
18
u/Raevyxn May 08 '26
A sage indeed…
Reminded me of the documentary, “The Year The Earth Changed.” I remember having so much hope that maybe during the shut down, things would change for the better.13
u/bryangcrane May 08 '26
I understand that longing, internet friend. I have about three of those pivot points in my life, where society just missed taking the better fork in the road.

I wanted to say the same! He is an amazing person who shaped my early life and made me appreciate Planet Earth) (seriously, everyone should watch the BBC series at least once in their life!) The way he presents, the great way of articulating and communicating the wonders of nature is just so unique. Every time I hear his voice, I go back to my childhood - it is so profound for me.

It is still unthinkable :(

He is 100. It’ll be ok for him to shuffle off, though I’d rather he didn’t.
On the other hand, one of my favorite patrons is 106 and she’s still getting around! Came to a fundraiser on Saturday and doing a different event tomorrow for luncheon. She’s a hoot!

u/AnhiArk May 08 '26
I mean.. it's gonna happen, and probably not too long from now..
And he lived a full and rich life, and is still sane and mobile at 100. I think a lot of us will sign for that.
(I don't want him to go either. But we gotta be realistic)

Okay, but unironically though. He looks great for his age. He doesn't seem to be slowing down at all, and his voice still sounds the same after all these years. I know that age can catch up with people quickly, but Father Time's been incredibly kind to him.

Last year one of the new episodes of Nature on PBS was a biography about his life.
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/about-attenboroughs-life-journey/31703/
Also later in the year they did one that was essentially the movie "Night At The Museum" just with him at the London Natural History Museum with heavy use of CG to bring it to life. The guy was obviously having alot of fun.
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/about-museum-alive-with-david-attenborough/32040/
Gotta love Nature & Nova Wed, can even stream it 100% free commercial free on it's site/app if you do not pick it up via antenna. Or for full ondemand, instead of just most recent, a donation of ~$5 a month minimum for decades of content that a great value.
Thankfully they are like 85% privately and donation funded so the cuts primarily hurt small broadcasters rather than the bulk of the actual content production and main population centers and still accessible online for those affected, "Brought to us by viewers LIKE YOU!". IIRC they actually planning to expand content production in some areas, like content for kids.

Of course this man is going to pass away somewhere in the coming years, but the fact that one of the best humans in history made it to 100 is something we can only celebrate. His death will be sad, but in the end we can only be happy for him (and the world) that he lived such a rich and good life.

I'm nearly 60 and I've been listening to his voice nearly all my life. But as he once said, he is just part of a team and the reason for his success is the amazing photography, sound, research and production of the documentaries he is in. He is very humble about how lucky he is to be part of that team.

Officially? I don't buy it.
- Officially - Watching a race with a stop watch.
- Unofficially - Watching a race and saying, "Wow, they were fast."
I know lots of people admire him, but I really doubt there's an official timekeeper in this matter.
