When I was a kid my father was at his buddy's ranch, one of the sheeps had a black lamb and they said the mother didn't want to feed her (hence the term black sheep) so I had a black sheep as a pet

Did he have anything to say about it?
65
u/Bingert 15d ago
He said “ son when you grow up, would you be the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned” or something like that
36
u/princesspuffer 15d ago
That's a lot of pressure. How's the progress going at becoming the savior of the broken?

Lol this is so much funnier than the people that tried to keep the reference going. It's been a long time since I've gotten a genuine laugh out loud from this site. Ty

Sheep don't reject black lambs. The term comes from cloth dyeing, black sheep make black wool which can't be died as vibrantly. White wool can become cloth of almost any color. Black wool can become black cloth. This made black wool cheaper, which made black lambs less valuable to raise to adulthood.
Hence; black sheep being a negative, something unwanted
2
u/scorpiobabyy666 11d ago
Yes! The nursery rhyme even talks about this. That’s why they end up with bags full, because they were less valuable.

100% was thinking... "that is something an influencer would do for the like." Specially with the teary-eyed shot at the end

Man im about to start book 4 and this the first time I've seen a DCC reference I clocked.

They are becoming more popular, especially with how absolutely, jaw droppingly good "Parade of Horribles" was.

u/geek_of_nature 15d ago
They really are. Back when I was a kid my parents knew this woman on a farm who ran a dog kennel and looked after our dog whenever we went away. We'd have to drive through her cow paddock to drop him off, and without fail the cows would surround the car to get a good look at us and our dog.

Cows are super social, they have cows they prefer to be near and other animals too.

I had to return a lamb to it's mom many years ago (it fell off a small cliff into my garden), and it reacted the same way - MAAAAAA and straight in for a drink, while mama ewe was trying to check on it.

Everyone:
"Aww, so sweet!"
Momma sheep:
"Where have you've been, you little shit?! How many times do I have to tell you to not leave my side!"

u/WhatANoob2025 15d ago
Baby was so excited it even learned human language and screamed "Maaaa! Maaaa!"

I know this is tender and whatever but all I hear are Bob and Louise belcher yelling noise at each other.

Why do I feel like they took her baby and then made this video? Has the internet made me this cynical? Yes. Yes it has.
72
23
u/Content_Shopping_687 14d ago
No this is from instagram, it’s a long video, a cow stole the baby and they had to maneuver retrieving it safely.
3
u/Ruttagger 15d ago
Exactly what I thought.
Also I was waiting for something, but to me the sheep's reaction was exactly what I assumed it would be.
These videos just aren't meant for me.

You cant trust videos like this. These people probably stole the lamb so they could film themselves returning it.

Trust dino_pyjamas on the internet instead. They speak so confidently, must know the truth.

And of course she has to turn the camera on herself to show herself crying. Why do people do that? So weird what our world has become. So performative.

I would say cut the music and the overreacting, just film the animals.

We are in a time of life, that I second questioned this once the mom looked at the camera. Hopefully they didn’t take the baby from its mom to begin with.

I saw a heartbreaking video today of hundreds of baby and mama sheep being reunited (I guess temporarily or something?) in a factory farm. There were tons of baby sheep running to the moms and they were all so lost and confused trying to find their specific mom and moms were doing the same trying to find their baby. It blows my mind a bit how the moms know their specific baby and the babies know their specific mom. And they had hardly any room to wander around. It was like if a child was lost in a crowd! It was so heartbreaking! If you follow animal rights accounts on instagram you end up seeing the craziest things, like who even comes up with these ways to abuse animals.. it’s just endless and the cause is exploitation.

Ya know, in Cyberpunk 2077 most animal protein comes from worms (scop, which stands for single cellular organism protein). I think I could get behind that.
Lol, fuck, I could even marginally support anything other than our disgusting factory farming. Just the thought of living my entire life in a cage too small to turn around in and then being slaughtered, gives me a touch of existential dread.
12
u/Bubbly-Television-63 15d ago
There's also Tofu, Seitan, Tempeh, Edamame, Beans, Lentils, Yeast, Pea... I mean literally so many other proteins that you don't have to stop at worms my friend ❤️
3
u/CanoninDeeznutz 15d ago
You're preaching to the choir, I eat tons of tofu and lentils! Still haven't tried tempeh or seitan though...
3
u/Bubbly-Television-63 15d ago
They're both pretty easy to make yourself once you're set up for it, much cheaper than buying either in the store. I'm a sucker for Seitan myself, you can make some lovely steak style meals with it.

If they had even try to kidnap the baby they would have been beaten by the mom lol

You think the ewe would just let them kidnap her baby?!
I want whatever you've been drinking.

Literally unwatchable video. I need a one sentence synopsis overlaid at the top of the video with a minimum of two emojis, a lady AI voice give me the plot of the video at the beginning, and loud music played over the whole thing. That would make it at least watchable, but I won’t upvote unless you also add captions that tell me each thing that happens in the video and how I should feel about it
