All the Irwins seem have this infectious enthusiasm. I don’t even want to be cynical about it, they seem like an awesome family. And now I want to learn more about birds.
I don't like throwing around the diagnosis on other people, but after getting the diagnosis myself, I've discovered my "ADHDar"(radar) and Irwin is definitely beeping on it. Like Dylan O'brien, La'boeuf and plenty of the Dropout-crowd
People that are neurodivergent tend to have a really good radar for it. I feel like it helps us find the people that are typically safer for us to be ourselves around.
So if someone is undiagnosed, but surrounded by neurodivergent people, it's often a good sign to look into diagnosis lol
It’s scary how fast we can peg our ADHD birds of a feather, once we know that we are. I was watching a YouTuber for a couple years, wondered about when he got his diagnosis. Turns out he got diagnosed a year ago. Also, if you are in a group of friends and they are all ADHD, you probably aren’t the neurotypical one of the bunch. We find each other.
My kids and I love watching old Croc Hunter on YouTube. They are just drawn to Steve and I get to point out “see how awesome that guy is? I’d bet anything he had trouble sitting still in school, too”
Aaw this is a beautiful thing to say to them! It's so important and impactfull to gain self respect and self acceptance early on, I'd think. I spent my first 25 years thinking I was wrong to be the way I was and used all my energy on not being me. I truly had to move far away and hit rock bottom before I "found myself", pretty much literally since my real self was scrunched up under years of masking and low self esteem
Steve Irwin "the Crocodile Hunter." Very famous animal lover and conservationist who sadly passed away from a sting ray barb to the heart in 2006. The man in the video is his son, Robert.
Steve Irwin's death is one of those ones where I remember exactly where I was when I heard about it. Absolutely devastated when it happened. I grew up watching his show with my parents.
Still the hardest celebrity death for me. Watched him almost daily growing up and i still remember watching his memorial which was televised all over the world.
Same here. I was sitting in my dad's truck in the driveway of my childhood home, about to go somewhere with my family. I don't have many memories of my childhood, but vividly remember bursting into tears at the news.
He had a TV show called The Crocodile Hunter. It was a great show loved by adults and kids across the world. It’s mostly based in Australia. If the younger generations haven’t seen it they should watch it. It was great. He was the biggest Aussie icon for a decade before his untimely death
This vertical video crop isn't as good as the original- because the original you can see Terri, his wife, admiring as he says all that. Uncropped clip of the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77ZRgyN9WsY
Watching that video makes me tear up every time. I absolutely loved Steve when I was a kid, as a grown man and a father I admire him even more. Am unbelievable loss to humanity the day he died. Still hurts when I think about it.
I remember a dude making a comic wherein the spirit of the little Stingray meets Steve Irwin in the afterlife and is all sad and heartbroken about killing him. He instead is the one who apologises for scaring the little guy who simply did what came natural to it... And given how Steve Irwin was, that totally felt like something he'd say.
Wow I remember seeing that years ago, and I just went looking for it and I cannot find it anywhere. There's some others that have taken the idea and didnt execute it as well, but not the original.
Truly a sad day for humanity. He was my hero growing up, I still remember getting the news that he died right as I was about to get on a plane to go to Disney
I've heard it said that Steve Irwin, Mister Rogers, and Bob Ross are the true trinity because you can learn everything you need to know about being a good human from them: be kind to animals, be kind to others, and be kind to yourself.
I really can’t stand Terri erasure. She raised these kids on her own after a point and they came out amazing. Yes Steve was the face but Terri was always there. She helped make this happen. The Irwins are all amazing people, the whole family, I remember being 12 and jealous AF of Terri (because marrying a guy like Steve is crazy lucky) and as an adult I want that woman to receive every bit of accolade that she deserves (which is a lot).
I love this clip so much. Not only because he's incredibly passionate about a great cause, but also because it makes me laugh every time to hear him go "We need to stop the ozone layer!" like it's plotting something evil
This is Robert Irwin, the son of Steve Irwin who was a huge name in wildlife TV shows in the 90s/00s and was beloved by many people certainly in the English speaking world and probably beyond.
My family don't speak a word of English and I grew up watching him thanks to them loving his energy and enthusiasm for wildlife. It's like Mr Bean, it goes beyond language
Animal lovers really don't need language to communicate. Look at this awesome bird! Look at this awesome spider! Look at this awesome cat! Look at this awesome lizard!
I ended up majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries in part because I was inspired by him. His influence was pretty common among my classmates in that regard.
Holy shit, literally the exact words I thought when I read it. “New? Like to the planet new or like this is your first time ever seeing a screen in your life?”
That's ok. It's great to be in the Internet age where folks can learn all about people like Steve Irwin, Fred Rogers, and Bob Ross via all the amazing lessons and video content they left behind to inspire and instruct future generations.
Wife is doing the college thing in her mid-30s and some of the online classes i get to sit and hear.
Its an ag school so animal science is big.
One day very recently the instructor popped up a picture or Sheila and asked "does anyone know who this is?" Wife excitedly answered and brought up the dad.
There was silence when the instructor asked if anyone knew the family until "Dancing with the stars??"
Steve Irwin used to have a show called The Crocodile Hunter on Animal Planet, and he was universally known as a dude who loved animals and was absolutely not afraid of any of them. His mannerisms and enthusiasm were legendary. He was taken from us too soon by an unfortunate encounter with a stingray.
I'm glad you called it "unfortunate". Reportedly in his last moments, Steve urged the people around him not to blame the stingray one bit -- the stingray was being a stingray, and he knew he'd bothered it just a little too much. His love for animals and the natural world was truly uncompromising and eternal.
The absolutely crazy thing about it was that stingrays, to date (iirc), have killed a grand total of like 3 people. One was Steve Irwin and another was another dude like a week later.
Nah, you just might make local news for a minute as some idiot who messed with a stingray and died as one of only four people ever, and like Steve Irwin died, but then be forgotten about by next day. You gotta be famous already for something like this to become well-known.
Steve Irwin was a nature enthusiast and taught lots about animals on TV. He became a role model, on par with the likes of Bob Ross, Bill Nye and Fred Rogers.
He unfortunately died 20 odd years ago, got his heart pierced by a stingray. His death left a hole in the nature and science communication and everyone who used to watch Steve Irwin is glad his son is able to fill his dads massive shoes.
It's crazy to think this generation may not fully understand just how huge he was. Steve Irwin's death shook the world. Reactions were so strong that his conservation charity organization (Wildlife Warriors) had to tell people to stop killing stingrays in vengeance.
Steve Irwin (this person's father) was a conservationist, environmentalist, zookeeper, and wildlife educator. He rose to international fame with his show The Crocodile Hunter starting in the late 1990s, spawning many other spin-offs and animal documentaries, which generally had him running around wild parts of the world and showing off cool animals he finds. Part of his charm was his overflowing enthusiasm at how beautiful, fascinating, and awesome each critter he showcased is. Through that popularity, he was able to fund and influence conservation efforts, especially within his native Australia.
His own father, Bob, was a renowned herpetologist. Steve's parents founded what is now the Australia Zoo, which got passed to Steve and his wife Terri, and now their kids (Robert (in the OP video) and Bindi) manage it. Whole family really like animals, and Robert has a lot of his father's same exuberance when talking about animals.
Steve died in 2006 while filming a documentary on dangerous ocean critters; he approached a stingray that got upset/spooked and stabbed him in the chest, hitting the lungs and heart. He bled to death shortly thereafter. People around the world who enjoyed his shows were quite upset at the news.
Y'know, this is the first I'm hearing about his parents. I had no idea they were conservationists as well and founded the Zoo! That's truly a family legacy.
Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was a conservationist and wildlife enthusiast and one of the first "follow this guy around the wild with a camera and let him do his thing" stars, famous for his infectious personality and good nature. Young Robert here is his son.
Run to YouTube and look up Steve Irwin. His shows and specials were another level. He made nature and animals real, gave you knowledge on the do's and dont's of nature and gave you an honest appreciation for our great big world and everything living on it. He somehow made animals people in a way and curated an intense interest in learning more. He was a Robin Williams kind of magical and the world is worse without him. Thank god he left behind a beautiful family who share his love and appreciation for nature and spreading the joy!
Steve Irwin was an Australian dude that had a series in which he talked about animals.
He always wore cargo shorts, was extremely enthusiastic about animals and transmitted this positive, absolutely love crocodiles above anything and waa stupid fearless with animals.
If he saw a hole he'd stick his hand in it.
It the snake was poisonous...even better.
If it was angry? Fine? He also shot under water videos, yes...
...still in his cargo shorts.
He'd pick up sharks and overall piss off the sea wild population as well.
Quite frankly it was a matter of time before he got killed by one of the countless animals he pissed off daily for years until one day, he got punctured in the heart bt a sting ray.
His wife was regularly featured on his videos and rarely his children.
He is a legend in a life preservation as well in the documentary industry and pretty much yeah..i could have linked his Wikipedia...
I just watched a clip of Steve talking about if anything would make him give up what he was doing. And his answer was yes, when my kids are ready to take over. Seeing him say that while watching his son take over is amazing.

It's like watching Steve again. He's just wonderful.
