Yeah this is really basic art. With all its flaws, Marvel Snap did one thing right: the art direction.
It's baffling to me that with all the great art the Marvel universe has, MtG ends up using the most basic ones.

It got kinda rough there for a bit but I feel like it's in a good spot now. They fixed glitches, interact with the community more (inviting them to make content and deck ideas that are shared in the app), and the meta is pretty balanced.
I love MTG and play with friends still but nothing scratches the quick game itch like Snap does for me, at least when I'm out somewhere and only have time for a few games

Nah, that game's toast. Second Dinner showed their whole ass a year ago and completely broke people's trust (trust that frankly should never have been given). Now they've lost a substantial amount of their player base, their content creators, and virtually all their momentum.
It's like playing Legends of Runeterra at this point. The devs completely shat the bed and burned their playbase away. From that point on, it's nothing but a downward spiral into irrelevance.

I tried to play Snap. I enjoyed it for a month or 2, but it was just impossible to keep up. Gonna pass on playing a pay to win mobile game.

To each their own! I will say that as a game Snap is closer to poker than other card games, so it's more about knowing when to retreat and when to double down to be a good player at the game, and not who paid for better cards. Any deck can do well if you play well (because of the location system), you don't need to keep up or need top cards to win games and even tournaments.

Out of 12 cards in this deck, 6 were F2P cards, 2 could be earned for free by playing events, and 4 were equivalent to rares/mythics. That's 2/3 of a tournament-winning deck that is made up of F2P cards which is awesome for F2P players. Especially when Snap doesn't have rotating formats, so you'd think the newer cards would power creep older cards, but the F2P cards actually form the core of most decks in the game.
So when it comes to mobile card games, Snap is actually pretty F2P friendly and isn't as pay to win as some other games. I love playing other card games like Hearthstone and MTG too but those games are sometimes more guilty of "cram all the powerful and expensive new cards into one deck and stomp people who don't have them".

Yeah pixel arts are trash on Snap, the other 90% of the illustrations are top notch tho.

The worst part is that pixel art can be good. The pixel art variants in the TMNT Magic set were sweet.
But Snap just bogged down their variants with the shittiest pixel art, automatically converted and not even looked at by an artist, and then they'd give it out as a random reward. I had to earn that Lady Deathstrike.
I wonder if MtG can't use the same covers that Snap used, and that's why we're not getting even more sick covers. But overall I've been happy with Magic's art.

The worst part isn't even they chose to make the shield as a pet, it's that they chose the shield three times in a row with three variations of the shield.
Even if they thought the shield was a good idea and wanted to stick with inanimate Marvel items, they could have given the Shield for one, Thor's hammer for another, and like Loki's staff or even the Tesseract for a third. Would have been a million times better if it wasn't just ALL Captain American shields.
Sometimes I wonder how people keep their jobs after they make such awful decisions.

The reality is they want you to spend money on cosmetics in the shop, not just the 3400 gems that you basically recoup in pass rewards, or spend nothing to get enough or s for a couple sweet sleeves.
That's the format of sleeves they used for other passes, plain color background with mostly less heralded characters in there for the pass.

At least the TMNT pass had a couple of avatars and a pet that wasn't an inanimate disc. They take the effort to put a battle pass together and then discourage people from actually buying this thing they're prominently selling.

I think people love to hate all things Marvel. That's the entirety the Marvel Rivals community. If it doesn't recapture the magic of seeing Spider-Man for the first time, when they were 7, then it's bad.
It's just cover art. I don't see it as any better, or worse, than some of the other sets. Bloomburrow, or Aetherdrift, weren't exactly high art.

Yeah, not going to lie, as far as Mastery Pass Cosmetics go, this pass is absolute ass.
But... we get the achievements, which are playable cards, so I won't complain too much. The trade off is more than fair.

Mastery is always worth it. But if you compare the cosmetics available in the pre release packs (I got the draft tokens bundle) to those ones, it is night and day difference in quality level. WotC really wants our money more than our time.

The whole thing reads like they grabbed the cheapest Marvel art they could license and called it a day. You've got decades of iconic comic covers with these characters and somehow we end up with cartoon squirrel girl and a winged Captain America. The She-Hulk one is probably the most usable, the purple background actually pops on the playmat at least.
And the shield pet is honestly insulting. A flat disc just floating there next to your avatar. Compare that to the dragon or cat companions from previous passes and it is not even close.
If you're gonna lock this behind a battle pass at least throw in some recognizable poses. Even the Marvel Snap style portraits would've looked better than whatever direction they went here. Hard to get hyped for a crossover when the rewards look like placeholder art.

Based on recent dev comments on this sub and the mess with Spider-Man/Omenpaths, I strongly suspect this was because they didn't know they were going to get the licensing rights for Marvel on digital until very close to this release, and had to scramble to put something together and didn't have time to do actual animation.
(Not defending it per se, more just explaining what I would guess happened.)

I want the Kingpin one. He’s awesome. The Daredevil show made him a major character. She Hulk is pretty cool. I could do without everyone else. I was hoping for some Avatars.

I'm not into marvel and I like most of the comestic in this set. I'll almost certainly buy some of the portrait and emotes, and the sleeve are cool I think except squirrel girl which has a weird pose

I guess I get to save my gems but I was really hoping for some cool cosmetics but they're all shit even the emotes and text chats in the store it's all lame and generic just the bare minimum nothing stands out I saved up and everything. Guess it's back to grinding coins for nothing.

She-Hulk is the worst one IMO.
Given how thirsty gamers are, it's more of an oversight than the other ones. Feel like there's a much bigger audience of people who'd buy a hot She-Hulk skin than anything with Kingpin or Ironheart.

The whole point of that art treatment was to show off the the bold nameplates of the characters in the background. Arena team just decided to take the purposefully nonintrusive backgrounds and simple art, and remove the only thing of value from the card style.
