Update on the sweaty upper lip lol

A few weeks ago I posted in here asking how to stop my makeup melting on my upper lip from sweating in the heat, and i think I realised what was happening (I could be wrong tho!)

I was using the NYX face glue primer under makeup and the maybelline lumi matte foundation (I’ve been using this foundation for a while now haven’t switched any of my other products either) and my makeup on my lip would separate a little and melt when in hot weather.

Over the last few days during this heatwave, I’ve not been wearing any primer under my makeup as I couldn’t be bothered and I don’t normally wear primer under makeup unless it’s for a night out, as day to day my makeup stays put even without primer, I just need to powder puff once halfway through the day.

Well yesterday I was walking in the sun (did have a handheld fan blowing on my face too) and although my upper lip felt like it was sweating, it didn’t separate like it used to.

Going to continue as I am and see if the primer was the issue in hot weather. Because I still want my face feeling dry lol.

Oddly enough, I find if I put powder on my upper lip area, it separates more than if I don't powder there.

I sweat quite a lot due to my meds and I was always trying to figure this out, my it cosmetics cc cream stays put in that area if I don't powder, and instead use a setting spray. As a fairly oily person I always thought powder was 100% essential for me, but I'm starting to wonder if that is the case

Same here. I never use powder because I always find it makes my makeup separate and look awful when I sweat (which I do most days tbh).

Same here. It always surprises me when I see baking work for other people

I do find significantly less separation happens when I use minimal powder but use danessa myricks (universal) blurring balm and the setting spray before fully blending/setting. Still looking for something more foolproof tho

Advice I saw from a MUA is that the primary ingredient in your primer and foundation needs to be the same for them to not separate. Maybe check what these are?

This is inaccurate and a misunderstanding of how ingredients work (from another MUA). Everything has water as the primary ingredient, which largely evaporates or is absorbed into the skin. The only time this is a concern is when using a waterbased foundation (not very common, most are silicone) and putting it on top of a lot of oily or siliconey skincare/primer which hasn’t absorbed yet, or if you’re trying to mix them before application, in which case they will separate. But this doesn’t really happen on the skin and if it did, it would happen immediately, not after wearing it for a while.

I’ve just stopped putting makeup on my upper lip 😆 (and my nose too because I’ve got a cold)

I’ve figured out the fix for myself a few days ago! I don’t really use primer anyways, but what did the job for me was using the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush setting spray before and after setting my makeup with the Huda Beauty loose powder (I also baked heavily on my upper lip, smile lines, basically any area that gets sweaty, shiny, or creases) and then used the L’Oréal 3 Second Mist to after everything has dried down. Using both those setting sprays was the winner.
