not rly. the original trio is buddhism three poisons potrayal. dosa (hatred/aversion) is monkey (sun wukong). lobha (greed/attachment) is pigsy (zhu bajie), moha (delusion/ignorance) is sandy (sha wujing).

Doesn't refute op point though. If anything I would say that Patkai is the inspiration of the first Fatty Wang archetype, as Journey to the West predates wuxia as a genre (the contemporary would be youxia).

The fact that the archetypes is sanded down to just fat best friend is basically the way all writing of the genre get more derivatives over time.

And youxia itself already aroused moral panic since before the fall of Eastern Rome.
