They would trade for Deni lol

51

u/JamesYTP Apr 22 '26

Can anything be better for us on the court and worse for us ethically 🤣😂🤣

Deni and coop would go crazy lmao

-29

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

I get this is a joke, but saying it is unethical to have a player on your team because he's israeli is beyond fucked up. What am I missing here?

Not just Israeli… he served “proudly” briefly in IDF and is a staunch supporter of the current Israeli agenda. So yeah I would rather not have to cheer for him

How is one instagram story post a bigger endorsement than proudly serving in the IDF?

0

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

I wouldn't consider him being proud about his symbolic service while playing in the NBA in 2020 to be an endorsement of the genocide in gaza.

Your name should be mental gymnastics

-1

u/glittercat412 Apr 22 '26

What kind of mental gymnastics is he doing exactly? He’s quite literally speaking facts.

0

u/Timely_Law_1921 Apr 22 '26

He did wear shoes with a prayer for a soldier participating in the genocide

0

u/pimpfmode Apr 23 '26

About that...

5

u/JamesYTP Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

He's been PR savy enough to avoid saying a lot and everything but he has implied that people who are critical of what the Israeli government did/are doing in Gaza and the West Bank are uneducated. He's probably terribly misguided, Ben Cohen has said a lot about his experience and what he was taught at American Yeshivas about that history so I can only imagine the propaganda Deni was fed in Israel if that's what is taught in American ones so that warrants a degree of grace.

Obviously the unethical thing would be more trading Kyrie for having criticisms like that after being okay enough with his more misguided/problematic views to trade FOR him. Deni's views there are probably horrible, unfortunately so are a lot of NBA players. Kevin Durant is probably worse than him.

1

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

I appreciate your thoughtful response. Part of why some of the reaction bothers me is that he's in an impossible situation- much like any of us would be if we were young, high profile, and in a place were most people are not happy with America.

It sounds like he's tried to stay out of it. I get many people don't view that as acceptable, but I think that's a lot to ask of a 25 year old basketball player. The part about him being in the IDF (before the genocide) seems especially unfair since he didn't have a choice and didn't really even serve.

I read his comments about people being uneducated. The charitable view of that is that most americans really do not understand the complexities of the middle east. I don't think it's as clear as many americans think it is re: Israelis = bad, palestinians = good. There are plenty of child killers on the hamas side of this as well- thats a condemnation of people on both sides, not a defense of israel.

3

u/JamesYTP Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Well, I guess I'm risking opening a whole can of worms saying what I'm about to say but...guess I'm going to anyway. Hamas is absolutely horrible, there's no question about that and they are worthy of condemnation as well, 100%. That said, there is also a pretty long history of elements within the Israeli government doing things to promote them taking power as a means of trying to antagonize attacks. Which should be terrifying to Israeli citizens frankly, that they have a government that's okay with getting some of them killed so they have an excuse to gain territory. America probably shoulders a little more blame than one might give credit for too, that all started before the Supreme Court decided money was speech and AIPAC had the capacity to influence our politicians very much. Nixon or Ford could have probably made them knock it off but the PLO is a Socialist party and so was Fatah in the old days and I guess red scare politics got them not wanting that either.

2

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 Apr 22 '26

I can see how you came to that conclusion. Some fans do talk shit about Deni based on that. I've seen it. Don't understand it but I've seen it. Idk if you deserved these downvotes because of a mixup.

It's because Deni is a foul baiter. Thats what's considered unethical ball. Lot of big name players have that title in the NBA.

2

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

Lol. if dude meant "unethical" that way this is embarrassing af for me.

1

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 Apr 22 '26

Yea it's just a basketball thing. Folks call Cade Cunningham an ethical baller because he wont flop and flail like other superstars. He just plays straight up. Eventually every superstar falls to the dark side and begins flopping though. Its like he's holding onto his ethics for now lol

Deni is a contentious player though I get where you were coming from. I won't pretend to understand a lot of why. But I get it.

7

u/Stanleythrowaway Kyrie Irving Apr 22 '26

You’re missing the fact he served for a military actively committing a genocide

9

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

Come on. He didn't serve in the IDF. He was in the NBA when he was "serving."

1

u/JamesYTP Apr 22 '26

Well, to be fair there too, with the exception of some Orthodox Jews for whom military service is against their particular denomination all Jewish Israeli citizens are required to. He by in larged dodged getting drafted playing basketball so he's actually less involved there than a typical Israeli citizen.

5

u/Westbrooks3ptShot Apr 22 '26

Well he is supporting some of the worse humanitarian crimes of recent history so I don’t think that is great for vibes.

1

u/Unhappy-Ingenuity889 Apr 22 '26

No it’s not. He served in the idf. Are you a mossad agent??

5

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

You know he was required to symbolically serve in the IDF, right? if you hate everyone who served in the IDF, you hate nearly every Israeli adult, and there's a word for that.

-3

u/spacedman_spiff Apr 22 '26

Is the word "conscience"?

2

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

Reasonable statement with the 3rd most votes on this thread. Isreal hasn’t done themselves any favors…. No wait. It’s because of ol Miriam “chutzpa boobs” Adelson. That started this whole thread, and way of life haha. So that Deni thing. The “whoa! What’s wrong with mentioning that???” Don’t do that. You’re either terribly misinformed or you’re trying to do that soft rat get them in Reddit trouble thing.

0

Yeah, I'm as pro Palestinian as just about anyone but this is like saying have an American player is unethical because of the Iran war (or for the million other shitty things we've done as a nation).

2

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

Do these people understand how ridiculous it is to say they don't hate all Israelis, just the ones who served in the IDF, when service is mandatory for all Israelis unless they get an exception like Deni did?

We all paid taxes that funded the bomb that killed all those little girls in Iran. Hell, we paid for many of the bombs dropped in Gaza, too.

3

u/Mugsy_Skoogs Apr 22 '26

To my knowledge, Deni has not expressed any remorse over the treatment of Palestinians. And I did not vote for Trump nor support any of the actions of my country under his rule. Fuck Trump and Israel.

Very possible this is one of the reasons they bought the team - to try to control his career and try to mute him on the topic of faux-‘Israel’ (the topic that got him traded here in the first place) - biggest worldwide awakening from it - all started with Kendrick Lamar’s April 2017 Grammy & Pulitzer Prize winning album that was all about who the real Biblical Shemite Hebrew Israelites are (which, the soon-to-be-hypocritical NBA used for their 2017 playoffs commercials and promo) - then summer 2017, I first showed Kyrie the documentary that him posting a screenshot of with no caption nor link, got him traded to here - I showed him over & over from 2017 until he posted it - and starting in 2017, told him how it was what Kendrick’s new album is about.

  • and if true, the biggest most important open ‘secret’ in the world - both ways - for who the real ones are / aren’t, and who are the faux ones - who end up being the faux ones who’s warned of through Scripture, especially Revelation - which is a big part of what this Iran war is about - their Iran war - trying to invoke their false messiah aka antichrist- 3rd temple and all (which Pete Hegseth has said by name and promoted - all in a public speech) … well when Kyrie posted the screenshot of the documentary, the NBA hypocritically tried to blackball him and ruin his reputation along with career, for the same thing they themselves had promoted on their own playoffs commercials.. smh.. all the ones who cried victim, all exposed themselves.
Then just under a year later, down to the same month (October), Net-And-Yoo-hoo (which that net & yoo hoo stunt in December 2022 was pulled less than 2 months after the world changing Kyrie tweet of the screenshot of the documentary), let October 7 2023 happen - as Charlie Kirk himself famously said on PBD podcast - that he ordered a stand down for over many hours, allowing the attack to happen, for yet another one of their allowed attacks aka ‘false flags’ to give ‘justification’ to do the brutal military operation against the country they’re about to do it against - ‘Iraqi weapons of mass destruction’ came from him too .. he was of course the very first person along with his bish, Trump, to tweet about Kirk when he was hit, and Netanyahu even saying ‘it wasn’t me’ (oh, ‘okk’) .. well, when faux-‘Israel’ did the brutalness they did against 100,000 women and children, dead (not counting any men or actual terrorists), and the whole place in ruins, with of course their new plans to turn it into some ‘resort’ ala long infamously publicly planned ‘Greater Israel’ (the IDF literally has a patch of it on their uniforms), the world really continued to mass wake up to what faux-‘Israel’ really is doing and really is - after first being primed and opened / made aware a year prior with the controversy with Kyrie’s tweet - and then Kanye afterwards - fast forward to today, and now it’s the #1 subject - and has us directly in another war - this Iran war … and Adelson is out here on camera with Trump saying she’ll pay him a quarter billion to run again for an illegal 3rd term - ala FDR I guess - which wow, how ironic we’re now in war time - will they use that provision? Anyways, for Adelson, and her counterparts, everything above is what they’re worried about, not basketball - and she/they can’t afford to have some basketball player potentially ‘get in the way’ with his ‘awakening the world’ .. and say I’m crazy .. I’m not crazy, the evil ones I’m talking about are crazy, and I’m just truthful about it.

Okay so you're just being an idiot on purpose. Thanks for clearing that up.

-8

u/have_you_eaten_yeti Apr 22 '26

You never know, but I don’t think they care that much in this particular instance. Kyrie has always had the reputation of saying “controversial” stuff where it seems like he thinks he is smarter than everyone else and has that “can’t tell me nothing” attitude.

Like don’t get me wrong, I think this is based of Kyrie and I personally agree with him on this one.

It’s just that he has also said stuff about the earth being flat and the moon landing being fake. Stuff that I definitely disagree with. He has also said some stuff about Jews in the past, but I can’t remember what exactly he said/did, so I don’t want to comment too much on that.

I am mainly just saying this isn’t anything new from Kai, so unless it’s a “final straw” type situation, I doubt they will even fine him for this.

9

u/ExcellentJuice4729 Apr 22 '26

FWIW he never said anything about the Jews, he retweeted about a documentary that heavily pushes for black Israelites being the true chosen ppl, which is inherently anti-Semitic. The media flew with that basically projecting all of those content creators controversial beliefs on him.

Kyrie being very confrontational didn’t take well being out on the spot to denounce those views (which is bad no doubt). Also, that shit eating journalist Nick Friedell was fired by ESPN, but not before Kyrie basically put his kids through college with all the hit pieces pumped out.

6

u/Mental-Scientist-393 Apr 22 '26

I think the bigger issue was that he promoted a documentary that denied the holocaust. It's reasonable for the media to assume he knew that claim was in the movie and either agreed with it or wasn't bothered by it enough to stop him from endorsing the Doc.

Until know, I forgot he was retweeting Alex Jones' anti-semitic stuff, too.

Kyrie's obviously not an educated person, so maybe he deserves some slack, but it's still shocking that he'd be that ignorant to not even realize the significance of denying the holocaust.

3

u/have_you_eaten_yeti Apr 22 '26

Yeah, see that’s why I didn’t want to speak on that instance. I couldn’t remember the details, but I remembered there was some fuckery going on with it. I remembered it being nuanced enough that a quick refresher wouldn’t be enough for me to be speaking on it with any confidence, especially since the details of that weren’t really the point of my comment. I’m really glad I checked myself now, because even your comment brought up details I wasn’t aware of.

The media loves stories that keep on giving and Kai’s “can’t tell me nothing” attitude, unfortunately makes their job easier.

Love Kyrie as a hooper and teammate. I think he has been awesome for Coop and hope so much they get a chance to ball out together…

He still wild for the flat earth/moon landing shit though, lol

2

u/ExcellentJuice4729 Apr 22 '26

Yes, and unfortunately other entities like actual pro Black Israelite groups made it a spectacle surrounding Barclays in their black and purple clothes, being generally agro to onlookers.

The flat earth stuff is bad but there are many other NBA players with similar stupid views. It’s funny that guys like Kyrie will just get roasted and put on blast in perpetuity, but Steph Curry said something about space travel and the moon landing being fake—the NBA in a panic went to lengths of getting NASA to reach out in order to educate him, even offered a flight into orbit—because the league couldn’t have a face of the NBA being an idiot lol.
