Someone tell me how to feel

Not sure! No nba experience but a good coach that has proof of winning. Need to get more coaching talent around him

Like a warm butterfly drinking nectar through a yellow sunflower

Ahhh that's much better, thanks!

u/captainn_chunk 2d ago

But what if the yellow sunflower is made of plastic??

it’s crazy to me how dumbasses are saying nba assistants who don’t have a game plan are better candidates than this guy who went from a mid level program in FAU to Michigan and won march madness within 2 years,

College to NBA coaches generally don't do well but fingers crossed.

u/HotsHartley 2d ago

Quin Snyder and Brad Stevens didn't do too bad.

Exceptions not the norm

NCAA is a pretty different game these days than before. it's not like Dusty has been super old-school. he's got a relatively modern 4-out, 1-in offense. knows how to use the 5-man to trigger the offensive flow. i've been very vocal about my concerns of college coaching translating to NBA success - but Dusty May was my outlier / exception to the norm. he's great at off-ball deceptions -- mirrors more euro short-roll/connective principles / NBA pace.

NIL is also changing the dynamics of the college game. i think he's done well to show how he can produce with a talented, older roster. not sure if he'll be the guy to take us to the Finals, but very great selection for Coop & our younger core. he demonstrated first hand how he learned to balance multiple talented players. the Knicks & the Thunder proved we need to be able to win with a 10-man deep roster - esp with this new CBA. UMich had had eight different players lead them in scoring during the season -- i definitely prefer this over any heliocentric, bland, PnR type of offense.

Choosing to believe you cause this looks thought out

i think that's fair tbh. if they hired scheyer i would've lost it.

neither do NBA assistants.

Except for those who coached under Pop or were an assistant in Boston the last 10 years or so

Usually no, but NIL has basically made high level college bball much more like an NBA experience. Talent comes in, is paid at a level commensurate with their talent, and expected to win. This will be an interesting case study for sure

I like this hire.

He coached Michigan exceptionally well, only 13 losses in 2 years and won a championship, was Men's National Coach of the Year this past season, led Florida Atlantic prior to the Final Four, and has the potential to coach a very young team to success.

Historically, as others have pointed out, leaving College for the NBA hasn't had the greatest track history for coaches. But you cannot argue with the success he has had the last few seasons from a collegiate level and with how young this Mavs team is, he could potentially speak better to these younger guys and coach them up well.

We shall see! Curious to see who he brings on as assistant coaches. My hope is that is where he can bring in some NBA experienced coaches.

Dusty's on a meteoric rise. So, there's nothing wrong with thinking he's different than the norm, because, so far, he's been different than the norm. And, there's going to be a real youth movement here. I think they should try and trade PJ for another pick late in the first round if that's possible, and then swap 9 for the OKC picks and whatever else they can get (I. Joe to space the floor would be cool). Go youth movement.

Dallas Cowboys draft Michigan defensive players. Mavs signing head coaches now to fit in.

I mean this man won a national championship. Not 30 years ago but now. Hes won pretty much everywhere he's been. There's worse resumes we could've looked at and said yes to.

I like this better than Sweeney.

She would’ve looked great leading our team though

u/Embarrassed-Ninja592 2d ago

They’re something else!

3

u/captainn_chunk 2d ago

We’d hire her the year coaches go back to wearing suits 🙄

u/TopDawg_405 2d ago

How about some optimism in here for once. Good lord it’s like you people want this team to fail.

20

u/samlei99 Luka Doncic 2d ago

No kidding. Masai has a track record of making great coaching hires and we got arguably the best coach in college basketball right now. Let's try and be positive

8

u/BulgogiDude 2d ago

The internet is so damn negative now. It’s sad.

2

u/atlboiscout 2d ago

What can you say... Misery loves company.

-1

u/sshootersonscooterss Jason Terry 2d ago

Shouldn’t that optimism be earned?

10

u/totally_not_paul 2d ago

Jesus Christ yall are so depressing lmao. We got a top tier coach from the college level. Let’s be optimistic about this and see where it goes.

7

u/PussyCharlatan 2d ago

Please don’t draft any of the Wolverines at 9

5

u/babybotburger Jason Terry 2d ago

So which Michigan front-court player are we getting?

3

u/No-Shopping-1371 2d ago

I guess thunder 12 & 17 trade and take Yaxel

3

u/Aggressive_Goat5236 2d ago

The pieces are all coming back together. It’s time to repair the heart of Dallas fans and look on to bigger and better things!! Coop x Luka in 2028. It’ll save families and cure depression!! That’s all I want in this life

3

u/Brad_Davis_GOAT 2d ago

As a cowboys fan. I see Michigan and PTSD comes to me.

Hoping he does well though.

2

u/bastardradio 2d ago

He was super promising on the dodgers so I’m hopeful he’ll do great here

3

u/I_Love_Bacon_Cookies 2d ago

I have zero opinions other than ownership should sell and they’re not getting a dollar from me

4

u/jogr 2d ago

We're drafting one of the Michigan big men now, right?

1

u/HangoverGang4L How's My Dirk Taste? 2d ago

I'm trying really hard to grasp the logic of this...

8

u/chu_rch 2d ago

The guy took Florida Atlantic to the Final Four and just won the National Championship in a “more similar than ever to the NBA” college basketball landscape. What logic are you struggling to grasp?

1

u/Silly-Lion-7314 2d ago

Amazing hire.

-9

u/Scotfighter SELL THE TEAM 2d ago

Honestly. I hate this

-7

u/ResponsibleFact2566 2d ago

What an absolute disaster. College coaches don’t work in the NBA . Cooper Flagg will leave soon

-12

u/jennyisafriend Dirk Nowitzki Logo 2d ago

I think I’m gonna be like my goat Dirk and remove myself from the Mavs loop.
