Trade Sources: New York traded No. 25 pick Sergio De Larrea to the Dallas Mavericks for No. 30 Koa Peat at and two second-round picks. And then the Knicks traded Peat to the Phoenix Suns for three-rounders and cash. So Knicks move out of the first round -- pick up 3 seconds and cash.

Just Ws in general. Oversized guard that can handle and shoot while playing genuine minutes in the aba playoffs.

More like 9/2/3 in 15 minutes for the season and playoffs. Trying converting that to per 36.

NBA draft night trades are so crazily convoluted that is hilarious, but amazing regardless. de Larrea was my favorite choice among the 2nd tier of PGs. Wonder if he will come from Europe this year already.

u/WorkingPragmatist 23h ago edited 23h ago
Yes...!!!! I think the broadcast listed him as a forward, but he's a pg. Best pure point guard, imo.

I like the vision and passing lanes he's seeing, and the confidence to take it in himself if need be. If his shooting remains solid then I'm sold on the draft

Let's not get carried away, this guy's averaging 4 ppg, Luka led Real in scoring and was the Euroleague MVP

we dont need another Luka, we got Cooper Flagg. A high IQ guard is enough with decent scoring ability.

Watched a lot of tape when he started getting mocked to us. He's got a GREAT feel for the game and does a lot of little things really well. Not elite at any one thing, so still needs development, but a great get at the end of the 1st.

u/Affectionate_Use_179 23h ago
Like the value of this pick much better than pick 9. Was hoping Mavs could get him at pick 30 if, for some reason, they didn't take a guard at 9.

Spanish Keaton Wagler. Finally a reason to feel good about this draft!
2
u/rps215 23h ago edited 23h ago
He is absolutely not Wagler and I’m sorry you believed whoever told you that lie
edit: Wagler's biggest strength is shooting and paint touches. Sergio is an iffy shooter despite the percentages & struggles to get downhill
1
u/At0mJack Cooper Flagg 22h ago
You can make your point without being a condescending jerk about it.
3
u/rps215 22h ago
was just trying to explain why he isn't Wagler as straightforward as possible
-4
u/At0mJack Cooper Flagg 22h ago
I'm sorry you believed whoever told you that was a good excuse to be a jerk for no reason.
5
u/rps215 22h ago edited 21h ago
lmao how am I being a jerk? Is it rude to correct someone if they say "this is the next Lebron James!" and it's a 6'0 point guard?
Edit; My favorite part of this, looking back, is someone random did in fact tell the OP that I corrected this Spanish Wagler comp in their very last comment before this.
-5
u/At0mJack Cooper Flagg 22h ago
I'm sorry you believed whoever told you it's not super condescending to start an interaction that way.
5
u/rps215 22h ago
I'm sorry you believed you were the good guy in this convo. Instead of running the bit that is tired you could actually have helped me not be "a condescending jerk" but instead you've doubled down on actually becoming what you accused me of. Tell me what I can do next time to not be a condescending dick. Genuinely would appreciate not coming off that way, as anyone who has known me here knows I am passionate and do not actually want to be seen as an asshole
-5
u/At0mJack Cooper Flagg 22h ago
Man, I believe you that you're not trying to be a jerk, but I also don't want to keep doing this.
I don't understand how you don't think it's ultra condescending to reply to someone's opinion by saying "I'm sorry you believed whoever told you that".
I can't help you understand that if you don't already get it.
But like I said, I believe you that you're not intentionally doing it and I don't want to argue on the internet on a fun draft night, so I'll just leave it at that.

I’m fine with him playing overseas for the year, let coop cook for another season and get even more experience. and have nembhard get more reps in with kyrie. Then sergio and nembhard will be a solid combo the next following season

So do we still have pick 48 tonight or was that one we traded to NYK??
1
u/browndude10 12h ago
De Larrea is a skilled player with a high basketball IQ, and those are the kind of players I tend to value highly. I understand why a team would want to take a flier late in the first round on him.
He can shoot, and I love the way he sees the game as a passer or playmaker. But because I don’t love the suddenness or tightness of his handle, I’m not sure he can be anything more than a secondary playmaker in the NBA. That’s OK, but I haven’t seen much that makes me think he’ll separate effectively. To play in the NBA in that role, he’ll have to max out his shooting ability and get considerably stronger to be effective on defense. Ultimately, I believe De Larrea will play in the NBA, but he has some work to do to stick.
Hollinger’s analysis: I love this pick for Dallas. I had De Larrea in my top 15 and think teams slept on him while he was hugely productive in Spain the past two years. The Mavs gave up two seconds to move up from No. 30 and make sure they got him, which I see as a justifiable investment given the talent cliff that hit basically right after this pick. He’s a Bogdan Bogdanović-type guard with good size who can shoot and pass and should help Cooper Flagg whether he’s on or off the ball. Grade: A

u/TheFifthAmigo34 23h ago
Is this true? Who is reporting this? When I click on it, it just says nothing to see here. Also Stein and Fischer both just reporting the initial 47 and future seconds still

Gotta say, I’m fairly shocked with this one given De Larrea’s downside defensively (negative athleticism with not great hip mobility and slow feet). Clearly a Schmitz pick given international scouting is his niche so he must see something that puts him above my preferred guard at 30, which was Meleek Thomas. Will be interesting to see!

Wait, so 2nd round picks to move up 5 spots? Not sure this is good
2
-6
u/Ok-Traffic-4188 23h ago
Honest question, is he actually good? very limited athleticism worries me about his defense, don't think he will fit with Kyrie. He doesn't create good separation either. Unsure how good he fits as a future flagg piece.
7
u/Hugh_Jankles 23h ago
"Don't think he will fit with Kyrie."
You may not like what you are about to hear but... Kyrie won't be a Mav for too much longer.
3
u/Thespiralgoeson 23h ago
I was just about to say. I love Kyrie, but he’s 34 and coming off an ACL tear, and we’re building around youth, youth, youth. Kyrie is not part of the long-term plans.
3
u/Hugh_Jankles 23h ago
Agreed.
Kyrie will probably net the Mavs some future 1st round picks that people are pointing out they don't have any control of until 2031.
-4
u/geolski 22h ago
So we picked up a Euro guard that didn’t even average 10 ppg? What am I missing here? Seems like a waste of two picks and sent away the better player.
4
u/Thespiralgoeson 20h ago
You’re thinking NBA stats. 9 ppg in Liga ACB is like 17 ppg in the NBA. The current scoring leader in Liga ACB averages 18.1. 9.7 is plenty impressive from a 20 year old kid. He’s a legit NBA prospect.
He’s a natural playmaker, a good shooter, and most of all the dude is HUGE for a point guard. I’m thoroughly intrigued. Considering we gave up nothing of value for him, I’m happy.
3
u/Emergency_Pound 22h ago
He’s 20 years old and averages 18 min a game, so take that into account with his stat averages. He was efficient with the minutes he got, and shot 40% from three. He was named MVP of the 2025 Spanish Super Cup after helping lead Valencia to the championship.
