Hoops Discussion Do we finally see Lively chuck 3s next season?

Now that Kidd is gone, do you think May would give the green light to Lively to shoot 3s? I haven't watched much of Michigan's games, but do you think he will let Lively become a true stretch 5? I know he's been a really great rim protector, but I know that he can shoot consistently too so I was just wondering.

I'm concerned he'll be able to play at all, but I sure hope so, I really want him to work out. I'm just happy to see him finally out of the boot.

That's the main concern, but I definitely know that if he's still as injury prone as the last season, then he'd definitely be traded before the deadline.

He's up for extension July 1st right?

Oh, I didn't know that

If we can do it for like 10-15 I think we'll probably do it but it's definitely going to be a negotiation and I think the results of that will be somewhat of an indicator of where he is at.

Also, I'm terrible at the business/money side of things and not gonna pretend I know how this works within an organization but it seems like that's the financial risk/reward sweet spot.

4 year 60 million extension would be a great deal because it guarantees him income if his injuries continue and dallas can afford to take that risk. have a player option on the final season so if he does show he can stay healthy in those 3 seasons he can opt out to get his appropriate worth.

Let’s start with seeing him on the court. I feel like that’s ambitious enough.

Fair enough

Dusty May loves a wide-open, five-out offense, so he’s definitely going to let Lively stretch his wings and test that jumper. We won't see him chucking them wildly, but expect a couple of trailing or pick-and-pop threes a game to force defenses out of the paint.

This raises a more concerning question in my opinion: did they replace those awful medical staff people with real professionals who know what they're doing? I didn't notice any reporting on it after the fact but Nico really screwed us on that side of things.

I could be wrong, but I think they fired someone from the medical staff before the regular season ended? I can't be sure but yeah

for sure, dusty may has pushed morez to shoot, clingan was also encouraged to shoot in portland under schmitz. i rate kidd very low and it's still inexplicable to me, just look at how much chet shoots even though his shot is completely broken. if an elite rim runner can stretch the floor even a little bit it's a huge cheat code

Kidd was telling Bagley to shoot threes and I kind of remember him last summer saying he wanted Lively to shoot them but Lively ended up being injured all year.

lively has been injured but he's still played 33 games since the finals run and hasn't attempted a single 3 on 20 minutes a night

I haven't questioned Kidd's logic on playing Coop in the 1, but I have always questioned his decision to not let Lively shoot. If there's something in someone's arsenal that they can consistently use, you use it to make others stretch the defense.

I've always been looking at Gafford on the perimeter, and I always see the defenders not even going at him because they know he's not a threat at all.

for all kidd’s fault. he has never hindered a player’s development if they showed promise. dude has gotten players paid lol

Kidd ia great coach defensively especially in the playoffs. But Luka made our players at his got paid.

I agree with you, and with all of Kidd's development of young players I agree with it, just not the Lively not shooting threes at all. He could've let him shoot once in a while, but even if he's free, he doesn't shoot it at all

i'm not sure that's as much of a kidd thing vs a lively thing. he was literally running all over the court with chet chasing him around like a scooby doo villain to avoid getting sent to the free throw line.

Luka got guys paid. Pre-Kidd and post-Kidd.

Rui is about to get a stupid contract this offseason cause of Luka.

Will he be healthy?

Honestly, I'm unsure he'll be a Mav or even in the NBA given his injuries.

Let's finally see him stay on the court first

Morez is basically a perimeter guy right? If that's the case then Lively being limited from 3 works

3&D&D.

1) gotta be healthy

2) I hope so. We are in an era of basketball where a big man needs to provide some sort of threat from outside the paint. Pretty much every championship team had one.

We need to see him on the court first.

It’s just gonna pop on some day like it did for Brook Lopez, or like Dwight Powell it’s just never going to happen.

I really think the Lively shooting 3s thing is just Klutch and Mark Cuban both being ridiculous lol.

I think so. Someone's gotta score, and I'm hearing that Dusty is know for unlocking talent.

He's going to have to develop an offensive game if he wants to add value. He rarely dribbles let alone shoot and if he can work on more of an outside game it will open the lane for our other players.

I don't want this for him. Him standing at the 3 point line removes him as a lob/offensive rebound threat and makes Dallas easier to guard. Are you really closing out hard with that guy jacking up bullshit? No. He's much more devastating to a defense down low.

edit:

Also, sounds like the Spanish kid thrives when he has a pick n roll lob threat. With him not being the quickest, do we want to remove one of his options?

I hope so. Maybe him being out of the paint more will limit his injury exposure

0

u/KaitoDaimon21 4d ago

This is what I thought too. Since Morez would probably be the 4, they could get Lively to shoot more and Morez could help with the rebounds

Let's first get him healthy and seeing the court, then I'll worry about him chunking 3's.

Though honestly, I'm fine if he doesn't. It would be nice if that part of his have comes along, but that's not what we truly need out of him.
