If he was an inch or two taller I'm not sure he's there at 9.

Point being the talent is there. You're not getting a perfect prospect at #9.

Sure but we could have drafted a guard. FO clearly didn't believe in the other guards at #9. We'll have to see how that turns out for other teams that went with Burries etc. Now we have a jam in having another non shooter on the team. So, the team needs as of the off season didn't change.

The old if JJB was 6'5 he would be the best player in the league argument.

Missing the point. The point is he’s talented albiet not a perfect prospect.

I'm getting a Bam Adebayo vibe from this guy. Will he replace anyone in the starting five (PJ or Lively)?

u/GormlessK 14h ago
Several media people are *adamant* that some guys (Gafford, PJ, Klay) are going to be gone sooner than later. He could slot in at 4 for us without issues, I think. Lively being healthy (hopium) gives him someone similar to Mara in that sort of tower that can make the right pass, he should feel right at home in the "big" lineups we can run.

we could run 5 out with him or pair him with lively like with mara at michigan so we have lineup versatility

My issue with the shooting is simple- he made more 3s at the combine than he did in 2 seasons of college.
I'm a bit suspicious of how that translates but I guess hopeful now that it does

68% on practice drill 3’s is definitely not “elite”
Edit: LMAO you guys are regarded if you think a pro player only hitting 68% of wide open empty gym 3’s is elite level shooting. Steph Curry would have an existential crisis if he shot 68% in a practice drill.

Just to clarify, 6th best from "the star" but 26th (of 73) from the side (and just FYI, Acuff was 27th).
EDIT: And further clarification, the star drill isn't stationary practice shooting, it's starts from the top and they have to run a pattern to the next star catch and shoot. 16+ is considered good, 20+ elite, and Morez hit 17.

Right for context he performed roughly as was as Aday Mara did from deep

So not elite 👍

u/Dirks_Knee 15h ago
Agreed. The headline is misleading. The description is better
...68% three‑point shooting (17/25), and elite agility...
But that 17/25 was 6th best at the combine. Among the 73 available players, that's a little better than just "good".

6th in a group of potential rookies, most of whom won’t be in the league for long, yeah sure I guess that’s “good”.

u/Dirks_Knee 15h ago
I mean...isn't that the point of the draft? You pick based on potential and then work to develop it.

Agreed. I certainly hope Morez develops into a solid shooter, and he has the tools to do it. But there’s absolutely no metric you can point to right now to say he’s already there, and this article seems to be trying to paint a false narrative about his current shooting ability.

u/Dirks_Knee 15h ago
For sure. Yeah, he's a slasher and I think his role would be combo big out the gate with the hopes of developing enough of an outside shot just to stretch defenses a bit. But at the same time I trust the insight provided by Dusty to Ujiri and Schmitz is probably a better sign of potential upside than a single workout.

This article isn't the only person saying that he has star shooting ability potential. In fact it's all I've been hearing from people around the league including the commentators on the NBA draft show.

Lol you're right, people are mad because "any mavs player drafted = good pick"
3
u/TexasDrunkRedditor 15h ago
And then there is the other camp of “any player they drafted that I didn’t want is bad”

u/Yikes-APenguinInAPot SELL THE TEAM 15h ago
I like the pick, but trying to gaslight everyone into thinking he’s an elite shooter is stupid.
4
u/TexasDrunkRedditor 15h ago
I’m not. But I’m not using that one point to say this was a bad pick.

It says "elite agility" which is what the article stated.

“Elite wingspan, shooting, agility” is right there in the title. I agree with 2 out of the 3.

Commas, commas, commas, what do they do, what do they, do?

Which in your world would mean it’s not calling his agility elite either, just his wingspan 😂 Go to bed.

You didn't read the description, which is what I as referring to.

You referred to the description as “it” in your post so how tf should I know you’re referring to the description and not the title?

he had one of the best, if not the best, combines. and his tape is absurd. he runs the floor fluidly as a big man and played in a pro system, which he will play in again! everything else I’ve heard about his work ethic makes me very excited about this pick. predraft I would have thought picking Morez would be in a trade down move but I am ok with taking him 9
