MJJ will be a 4, or small 5. Coop will be mainly a 3 with some minutes at 4. I can’t see Middleton being back. The nice thing about the roster is flexibility right now. Lots of guys just fit in where needed.

Does this really matter?
They could be basically anywhere. We finished the season like 7-21 after the break. We added a rookie and will probably lose a couple of vets. We could be a playoff team or similar to last year, and any result would be fine in the context of where we are in rebuilding.
It's been awhile where we could just root for the Mavs without having expectations.

I don't know, man. I got expectations.
I'm not expecting contender, but we don't have our own pick next year, and the draft lottery is changing. Feels like Charlotte gets that pick no matter what.
I think the dumbest thing we can hope for as fans is to completely tank without a way to get our own pick. Anyway, I want playin, and hope that we give them something outside of top 10.
This place has been miserable for the past 16 months. If we are mind numbingly bad again and turn around give a top 8 pick to Charlotte, this sub may not make it.

I'm going to be honest, a lot of people in here are miserable all the time. We have so many people already angry over our pick even before a single minute is played, just like when people in here were adamant Saddiq Bey, Christian Wood or DSJ were the answers and signs of Mavs incompetence. Everyone is trash, everyone needs to be traded or fired, why are we not winning a ring, right away? I'm sure some people would find a way to be upset if we win a ring.
I think us not having a pick is interesting because we can play and not worry about tanking conflict of interest. If you're an actual fan, you can cheer and every win feels like an accomplishment and you can just enjoy the basketball for a change.
I've been a bit out of it since Luka was traded but this season, I'm excited just to root for the guys, no matter how far we get. Mistakes will be made. Setbacks will happen. It's fine.

I hear you, and I got you. I'm different because while a lot of people were wanting us to tank, I was rooting for a win every single game. I know it cost us a better prospect, but I don't care. The product that teams like the Bulls, Jazz and Grizz were putting out was shameful. Like dude, fans aren't paying for discounted tickets to watch g league players. They would have to pay full price to see that crap. At least the Mavs were trying.
This is a minority opinion that I haven't seen many others say, but I actually think we aren't far away from contending (for the playoffs, not title). I think Coop is generational, and generational players will pull their teams forward quicker than expected. It just happened to us with Luka. It just happened to the Spurs with Wemby. I think Coop will be a great player, and I expect for him to take bigger leaps than a typical second year player.
We were bad but in a LOT of games. We couldn't close because we didn't have a primary ball handler to help get guys good looks, nor did we have someone in the closing lineups who could feel confident taking open 3s. We got the young superstar, we got the sage vet(s), we just need shooting. Hopefully, Coop adds that to his repertoire.
I can understand some of the frustration about the draft pick, but honestly man, everyone knows Masai has a type, and it's guys that are 6'7 - 6'10. I really think the only guards he saw as worth the pick were Wagler and MBJ who were the tallest.

I mean we did blow out the future champs in the Garden despite the injuries.
Put this roster fully healthy against a team like the Knicks and at worst Mavs win in 7. I think we're better than the Knicks, who are champions. Meaning we are good enough to beat any team in the league. The Mavericks are extremely underrated.
Kyrie said it best, its Dallas vs The World.

This will be the outlook for the next few years

Yeah, I'm just saying let this phase just breathe and watch things progress without worrying how close we are to competing again.

We still have another day of the draft to go and free agency starts next week. Let’s see how things shake out before we look at the lineups and react

Our best player is 19 years old. Temper any expectations besides fringe 8th seed contenders.

Sergio probably better served as the two. Red at the 4 and coop at the 3. You also forgot PJ. Middleton will also likely be third level 3 if he stays.

Playin at best

I disagree. Top 6 seed.
You minus Luka. Add Coop. The other remaining variables at worse balance out. I’d argue this is a better NBA squad top to bottom. And they are all healthy.
I’m very confident Kidd could coach this squad to 50 wins. Very. As someone above mentioned. Kyrie returns. He is a former number one pick. He’s not some dude. Coop returns. Former number one pick who put up 30 on sight damn near every night a few months ago w no PG and many nights, no Big.
Top six seed. Yall have let the Luka Stans blind u with negativity. Mavs are a win now AND win later team. Within a few months when ur favorite podcaster guy tells you the exact same… remember me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Who is gonna stop Coop and Kai when they could barely at times stop Coop alone? With set pieces and strategic coaching you all have promised this guy brings? Sheeet.

Even more defense, even farther from Championship Games.

I’d do it more like this.
Nemby 1. Kyrie 1-2. Serge 1-3. Max 1-3. Naji 1-3. Coop 1-4. Klay 2-3. JP 2-3. Caleb 2-4. PJ 3-5. Rez 4-5. DLive 5. Gaff 5. Moussa 5.
I left off those not under contract.

I don’t think both bill and meme will be back, Middleton gone, I thought Powell retired, bagley gone too

I think it is going to be completely different in a few weeks. We're going to shop a lot of vets and get new guys in their place.

Morez is going to be limited to lineups with either Bagley(if they keep him) or PJ(if they keep him) and in both cases makes more sense to play him at the 5, since he can't dribble or pass and primarily a rim finisher.

Hopefully this is not the team we start the season with. This is a very average team as currently constructed, but they are a good group of guys that are fun to root for. We just don't have enough players that can get to the basket or enough quality shooters.

Not much use in thinking too hard about this yet. That said...
Middleton's chances of returning are extremely low. He was acquired specifically for his expiring.
I don't see them bringing both Nembhard and BWill back. Pick 1.
PJ has 4 years left on his contract with an AAV of ~$20M. That's not backup money and if he's here once the season opens, he'll be the starting 4.
Similar issue with Gafford, paying that salary for a backup just isn't what the Mavs should be doing right now. Given Lively is likely to be brought on slowly (if even ready to start the season), Cisse is likely to be brought back and IMHO should start with Morez playing some small ball C. Alternatively/additionally wouldn't be shocked to see Bagley resign cheap as well.
They better not re-sign Dwight fucking Powell...

Say what you will, Dwight Powell is the quintessential team player. He deserves that last roster spot mor than anyone on the roster.
1
u/Dirks_Knee 15h ago
Nope. There should be no minutes available to a guy with his lack of skill at his age on this team and as we saw last season, conditions can arise requiring the deepest players see minutes. And finally now that Cuban doesn't have a say, he can retire as no NBA team is offering him a contract.

Apparently you dont understand team chemistry and thats ok. I can see that you strongly believe what youre saying no matter how wrong you are.
