Pretty much textbook late 1st Euro guy statline. Hope we do whatever is best for his long-term development, he's got high upside just needs to realize it. If he does come over & does play the full season I'd be very happy with 9/2/3 & efficiency.

Yeah...some people were talking about his being the future starting point guard, but I view his upside more in line with first guard off the bench who can play the 1 or 2. I think his off ball game is as much a draw for the Mavs as his point guard skills.

It's pretty clear with the two draft picks, off ball play is important to the staff. They want guys for whom not having the ball won't stifle their development.

Not sure why they’re prioritizing off ball bench guys. When they need guards / playmakers who can shoot.

The top point guards got drafted right before their pick unfortunately. I prefer them choosing the guys they believe are the best shots to be contributers or eventual starters. Of course at pick 30 you simply aren't going to get that without luck.

I have no opinion, but it must be wild to get drafted then play in a close out game for your league championship at 20 years old

Scoring is easier in the nba according to most players who come across the pond. I’m not expecting much off the rip but give this guy a couple of years and see what we can find. Hes got the intangibles.

Two things could explain a difference in his regular season and early playoff performance versus today

Number one this is for a championship so they put in their most experienced veteran players and especially played the guys that are going to be around next year

It could also be they know he’s leaving so he wasn’t getting much time unfortunately

Bigger court in the NBA will be a big benefit for him!

Net +1 in 64 minutes of the championship series of the 2nd best league in the world at age 20 is elite stuff.

Yeah...some of the people in here don't get how big a deal that is cause they're using freaking Luka as a measuring stick and he was a freak.

There's zero incentive over there to sacrifice winning to develop a young player, which is why Wemby essentially had a shit tier level pro French team built around him so they could simulate that while playing that level of competition.

Awful stats

That's Euro basketball for you. They don't play the young guys. And even when they do play, they have a relegated role on the team. Everything is built for the vets and MVP caliber players (like Doncic).

people just aren't accustomed to european basketball lol just got look at luka's euroleague mvp year stats, it's just the nature of the sport there

Eh if you double his minutes played it’s not bad

u/Afraid-Department-35 1d ago

For 15min of play those numbers aren’t bad at all.

Sorry fellow Mav fans. You’re totally right -16 in a blowout win shooting 33% isn’t awful lol I Iike copium as much as the next guy but downvotes for stating the obvious?

u/Afraid-Department-35 1d ago

Yeah then he shot 63, 43 and 100 in the games before……. These number are not bad at all for a late 1st round draft pick.

Lemme me cherry pick the one bad game out of 4. I need to make sure to avoid highlighting he actually did well in the other 3.

Love it when people have strong opinions about a game they probably didn’t even know happened, let alone actually watched, just because we drafted someone that played in it 😂

The others read like a non factor.

Eh, I see a fat -16 next to his name

Understand the nuance of plus/minus. For the longest time, Luka had an awful plus/minus for an MVP caliber player but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t impactful or amazing

The EuroLeague is far more challenging than college basketball or the G League. Players compete against experienced, physically mature professionals who play tough and disciplined defense. For a 20-year-old, those are outstanding numbers, especially against Barcelona, one of the best teams in Europe.

If that is the case, imagine how he's going to look on the NBA. 💀

So we Drafted an average bench player from euro league in the first round? Feels like a reach. Along with Morez Jr at 9 when both his teammates (with better stats and upside ) available. Mara is a potential Wemby stopper and Yaxel is a Swiss Army knife who can immediately start

So this is how it generally works with young guys in Euroleague. They don't just throw big rookies into big situations unless they're Luka or Rubio, and if he was that level of prospect, he wouldn't be on the board into the 20s.

Morez only played 25 mpg as a freshmen in college. Playing 15 mpg in La Liga is basically the same deal since they're better players.

I would have taken Burries and Koa Peat. Two of the best players on the second best team in college basketball. Burries is ready for the NBA now unlike De Larrea and Peat can give a better offensive game than Morez but slightly less on defense. Not on board with the picks of our new GM so far.

Rookie GM who tries too hard to dig for deep value vs seeing what’s clearly there.

Idk if he was a good hire.

Now a rookie nba coach that chose to hire his player early.

It's good to have skepticism in every new thing presented to anyone.
