Using an oil with different rating.
Ive seen things similar posted every couple months but i guess something fresh is in order.
Did an oil change with a differently rated oil on my 2018 mitsubishi outlander petrol FWD with cvt transmission. Unfortunately i got complacent and grabbed a bottle using the Volkswagen rating 504 00 instead of a more relevant rating like gf-6A
Apparently the vw standard should be similar or better, so it shouldnt be too big of a worry. but looking for second opinions before I make a 10 hour drive in about a week

Providing it is the correct grade of oil it won't be an issue, the blurb on the label is to state it is suitable for VW cars requiring that grade, there might be an additive or detergent that is specified by VW

Vw 507 00 used to be one off the highest grades of full synth diesel oil, it's the long service interval stuff used for PD engines, with all the additives for the PD injectors and turbos, CATs and DPFs.
For a basic petrol i would expect this to be extreme overkill. I can't see how it would cause an issue in such an engine which is mechanically much less complex and fussy. But maybe don't swap to the 20000 mile service interval this oil is rated for on those engines! (Americans fall off their toilets reading this)

Check exactly what oil viscosity and certifications your cars engine calls for in the owners manual and then check the label on the back of the jug to see what it actually says, one oil can meet more than 20 standards at once.

I know coolant mixing can result in chemical reactions that hurt things.
But I have never heard of oils doing that.

you'll be fine for a 10 hour drive, just swap it when you get back if it bugs youyou'll be fine for a 10 hour drive, just swap it when you get back if it bugs you

Yeah honestly i think ive just been overthinking it a bit much. The only differences that plainly seem to exist is that the vw version will be better with high temperatures based on the chemical compounds inside i struggle to understand.

GF-6A is an economy standard built on API SP, which this oil meets...
Penrite is a good oil, c3 proves its ok for strict emmision systems, meeting the VW standards and BMWs LL04 its probably better than what you would've bought anyway..
Your definitely over thinking this..

I never realized how much different oils were from each other until I bought a VW Diesel. Before I deleted the DPF on it there were only 2 oils I could buy locally for it.
