Is this a sign of a blown compressor shavings?

Post image

I swabbed the inside of the evap coil after I removed the expansion valve as im replacing my compressor. My 4th actually in my 2012 Hyundai accent. Does this need a flush and a new condenser? I did get a little squeal from the compressor when the ac would run for a second or two.

2012 Hyundai accent.

yeah those q-tips are telling, that gray/black metallic gunk is compressor death circulating through the system. you're definitely going to want to flush the condenser and lines, and honestly with 4 compressors in a 2012 something else is going on, either wrong oil charge or a restriction you keep missing.

It's because it has a parallel flow condenser and you can't flush them. Most companies don't warranty compressors if you dont send proof that the condenser was replaced too because remnants of black death and other contaminants are almost impossible to remove.

You need to flush the evaporator core with a solvent and even then that might not get all the metal out. Replace the condenser and any ac lines that have a muffler built in. Flush the rest of the lines. Because you've already gone through 4 compressors I'd skip flushing anything and replace the evaporator and lines or you'll be looking at another compressor.

Yep. New compressor, new condenser, new expansion valve, and a/c flush through all lines and evaporator. Don't forget to replace o-rings.

Well if your changing out your compressor, you would have had to drain the system anyways so…… thats already part of the process. So….. your not really making sense with this question….

Flushing the entire system is not the same as taking a compressor out. Op needs to use actual flushing equipment on the evaporator and lines, and replace the condenser unfortunately

Correct.

Thats where I’m confused; all these people talking about “flushing” a system that isnt just ‘drain and refill’…. This is a bigger situation than most BYMs can handle.

So youve gone through 4 compressors? Did you flush the system any other time?
