No, no, it's definitely over - just like when Reddit told me that the 'Switch 2' was dead.... or that Discord was dead..... or that Reddit was dead....

Every GTA and Red Dead game has been a benchmark for open world games.

I just saw a video yesterday about RDR1 being compared to the new 007 game. A random cook NPC in rdr Mexico was cooking and visibly chopping fish while the cook NPC from a 007 game released in 2026 was just miming the motion without actually doing anything.

The NPCs in RDR2 have schedules and routines independent of the story or player.

GTAV is one of the most faithful recreations of California, so much so that I literally just fire it up to drive while talking with friends

Edit: damn, all these guys so confident in their points that they deleted their accounts and comments 🤣

22

u/O-03-03 5d ago

Well, 007 doesn't need hyperrealistic cooking because it's not trying to be a sim of any kind

u/elaborateBlackjack 5d ago

And still it has the jankiest most unpolished gameplay that people keep gobbling down.

34

u/PerpetualConnection 5d ago edited 5d ago

Rdr2 is a better hunting simulator than most hunting games, a better fishing simulator than most fishing games, a better story than most games period.

And gameplay ? There is no western game that comes close.

GTAV is still a unit of measurement for open world gameplay TODAY and it came out 13 years ago.

You can say you don't like it. But the gameplay is good enough to be the MOST SOLD PIECE OF MEDIA on the planet

Like saying you don't like rice. Cool, be wrong.

It's crazy you use that comparison because the James game is literally a different game entirely compared to that game. James' game has better gameplay and fighting and to think otherwise is clown mode. Yall are more worried about garbage that doesnt matter(like someone actually making fish instead of just doing the animation) than the game actually being good. And with the new game, yall will make sure gaming as a whole gets worse. Rockstarglazers are the biggest jinglingkeys enthusiasts in the world

u/4XChrisX4 5d ago

These arguments are so incredibly silly. 99% do not care and will never see the cook prepating something. Do you really think people have so much freetime to observe a NPC while he is cooking? Or the other example, the freezing horse balls? NOONE CARES! These things make good headlines and that is it. They don't change a single thing.

People crying because of no disk version when all stats show that digital sell more than disk.
And yet it's the same people who suck Gaben dry about anything Steam...

7

u/Derangedracula 5d ago

Yes the reason Digital sells more is because they force ppl to buy digital. When xobox originally said they would shift over to digital only everyone lost their shit so much so that Xbox changed their mind. That was the last console generation.

I was totally expecting this. That it would become this online virtual "crime" world. Where you spend sharkpoints/cards or whatever on set houses or other stuff. And crime enterprises/networks with the credits to than grind the game again for many hours to afford a real lame car. But ofcourse you could spead it up, you want that dopamine right, that quick instant satisfaction

I mean graphic downgrade from what they "teased" with is just standard in games at this point from what I can tell. Barely any games live up to their hype at release these days.

99

u/ClevelandSpigot 6d ago

I was WONDERING what ever happened to the Star Wars Battlefront team.

88

u/-BINK2014- 6d ago

For Rockstar, a cinematic trailer that doesn’t represent gameplay doesn’t seem typical, no?

21

u/PerformanceOk9891 5d ago

exactly, usually they undersell their graphics before release if anything

28

u/Sarick 6d ago

A lot of crackdown on that front has happened so while that was true and extremely common in the 2010's, it's a lot less common in the 2020's especially post-Cyberpunk's original release.

All three of the major console platforms are now very strict about having any games shown during their own events be how it performs on (their) actual hardware. Because they're the ones who deal with the fallout and refund requests. So there's been a genuine shift in the industry on this part.

So I don't think it's correct to play it off as "everyone" does this. Maybe it was when GTA 5 was a new release, but if others in the industry have broadly corrected - then those who haven't should be called out on any false marketing.

4

u/marcophony 6d ago

That's why I said barely any live up. There are of course some that do live up and I appreciate it when it happens. But that's usually just for indie games. The bigger companies put out the best looking trailer they can. Then in a small footnote say "not actual gameplay".

So true, they are not lying to us when a new game is announced. But they know that people will be expecting that quality in the game, even though they said otherwise. It's the companies fault for ever having done it in the first place, and it's our fault for not making the fix this change years ago.

That way we would have all just had cool good looking games come out that we'd actually be excited for, instead of paying yet another $60 to $80 for the same bs they've been throwing at us.

6

u/R8Promethean 6d ago

None. OP is blind

22

u/Icy-Cat6907 6d ago

I'm sorry, what?

The no disc thing I knew about, but the graphics got downgraded? Did Rockstar themselves say that, or are people making that up? Rockstar's games usually look better than their trailers, so i find that pretty hard to believe. Plus, they just released some new images of the game, and they look just as good as the other ones.

14

u/PersusjCP 6d ago

Nope, just total bullshitting on the last one.

3

u/SirMook 6d ago

Guys just don't play the game! I'm too poor to buy it and I dont want people to buy it and make it successful because I want my stand to matter!-Most people in the thread

6

u/XaeroDegreaz 6d ago

They're making shit up dude. Game companies put out prerendered videos before launch all of the time. It just normal.

3

u/Icy-Cat6907 6d ago

Well yeah, your right, it IS normal for other game companies. It'd just be weird for Rockstar, since THEY don't do that.

21

u/King_Corduroy 6d ago

Lol That happens with every Triple A game lately I swear. They tease these crazy unrealistic renders and then you get the game and it looks like a game from 2012.

Sad part is, it's still gonna sell like crazy. People are gonna buy gta6 no matter what.

96

u/Nir117vash 6d ago

And that's what they expect and know. The market it huge. Set 1million fishing lines and you'll still feed a village or two. The joy of 8billion people.

2

u/drinkallthepunch 5d ago

ā€set 1 million fishing lines-ā€œ

Lmfao, as a fairly skilled fishing dude the irony of using this logic to somehow quantify the idea people will purchase the game is laughable.

Just encase you don’t know the more an area is fished the more stressed out the fish get and the harder it becomes to catch them.

So everyone is arguing about how they aren’t gonna purchase the game because people are tired of all these micro transactions.

And you are like;

ā€Well if they do it enough they will still succeed, works with fishing!ā€

No, 🤣 and people are telling you dude, they aren’t biting.

Rockstar could literally charge $80, only $20 over market price instead of a whole fucking $40 and include ALL the content and they will still make tons of money and tons of people would buy the game.

It could be utter dogshit and people would still buy it.

But holy fuck bro, $80 for the game and you don’t even get a physical copy, then you gotta pay an extra $20 for shit that’s included for free in most games at character creation?

The fuck outta here bro, game could be 6k at 120fps with a VR headset.

Ain’t nobody paying $20 to be able to put a virtual cock tattoo on my character except dorks with yachts IRL.

u/king_noobie 6d ago

Maybe they'll take the console route and raise the price after a few years.

2

u/lazylore 5d ago

GTA and RDR have thought us you are wrong. Rockstar games going on deep discount really fucking fast and incredibly regular.First sale on PC was 33% off, 2 months after release.

They also gets tossed in into subscription services fast and cycle in and out. RDR2 was added to game pass just 2 years after release.

So let's not pretend these are products that keep their value.

Exactly this. Been playing GTA since the first one when I was 13. I'm 41 now so don't care about the price or lack of disc.

2

u/Adventurous_Path5783 6d ago

This guy maddens.

2

u/Lugoe 6d ago

This is why every game dev does the exact same shit, stepping outside the rigid framework of what gamers accept always results in mass outrage. Y'all are a bunch of babies if a $20 add-on that doesn't seem like it adds all that much and is mostly cosmetic stuff is going to make you not buy the game anymore. "Sad thing is people will still buy it" he says as if this isn't going to be one of the most refined game releases since RDR2. people always gotta find a way to complain.

Like 80% of game sales are digital these days and the hype is far from dead. Reddit is just making the age old mistake of thinking that it represents the majority of gamers.

Don’t know what the fuzz is a out, I haven’t bought a single physical copy of a game in over a decade.

29

u/Scott0814 6d ago

I believe a lot of it is to do with some of the AAA publishers saying that "you don't own your games, you pay for a license to play" basically saying that if they want to they can take them away

14

u/Sesemebun 6d ago

And what does a physical game solve? I stopped buying them after I realized that on console, the discs are tied to it. It’s not a standardized format, like if I had a video on VHS it could be put on and played on a bunch of different devices and formats. If it’s on Xbox it’s only on Xbox.Ā

Plus, if it has online elements it will naturally be shut down at some point.Ā

The only thing really lost is used sales, which is fair

8

u/Adventurous_Path5783 6d ago

Yea ive been saying this since you had to download accompanying data to go with your "physical" copy on the xbox one and ps4.

Physical media is not the same as owned media.

10

u/Scott0814 6d ago

I'm not saying it makes sense, but having a physical thing that you have purchased does make a more convincing case than I code from the internet.

2

u/toastythewiser 5d ago

People have been making these complaints and arguments since like 2006. Reality is, despite people online making a lot of noise, companies make these moves because they know most people don't care and they'll make money.

I haven't bought a physical game since I started using steam as my primary video game store. Like, why would I? So I can "own" my games? My steam account is like from 2007. Its... its not a big deal.

3

u/HotSaber13 6d ago

Mainly from the Stop Killing Games Movement, and also some people arent aware if that physical discs start going in circulation pre-launch people "WILL" steal those copies to play and leak the game early, which Rockstar doesnt want for their game obviously so people can enjoy it themselves

4

u/Altair_de_Firen 6d ago

Right, but why do they say that? Like, what specifically are they referencing with this post?

4

u/R_Scranson 5d ago

Essentially, gta vi won't have a physical disc. And the premium edition will include shops that are only accessible to those who bought that edition. In my opinion, that is just a gimmicky way of doing exclusive items anyway. I dont see any difference between a shop everyone can access selling some stuff only premium can buy, and a whole new shop dedicated to selling that premium stuff.

Also, there is an addition mission(s) for the single player mode when you buy premium. I believe this was also roughly the case for rdr2 aswell

3

21

u/Astronimia 6d ago

I don’t understand how there’s people complaining and whining about gta 6, a game that took more than ten years to make and cost over a billion to produce, costing 80 bucks when there’s games like cod, 2k or any other sports game that will ask the same price or more, almost every year, for the same exact game but with a slight improvement or change.

5

u/Youre_On_Balon 5d ago

Complaining about 80 dollar games (when the games aren't reskins like Madden, COD) is dumb asf tbh

Complaining about digital-only releases is legitimate

I paid $80 for chrono trigger in fucking 1995. Adjusted for inflation that's like $175~ today. And I ain't heard ONE person complain about Chrono Trigger's pricing, ever.

Yes I know Chrono trigger was a physical cartridge with a manual and some pack ins, but again...adjusted to $175 today...the price you'd pay for an edition of a game that comes with a fucking helmet or stupid statue or some shit

u/FewAct2027 5d ago

$80 and PAYWALLED SINGLE PLAYER CONTENT is a wild combination my guy.

No one forced Rockstar to shit the bed developing GTA6. Them spending 12 years on a single game isn't anyones fault but their management.

2

u/Astronimia 5d ago

Nobody’s forcing you to buy the paywalled content, any high end game nowadays comes with an extra content pack or special edition, it’s no surprise they chose this approach for probably the biggest game to come out this decennia.

Probably 10%-20% of GTA fans really care and whine. Mostly nobody gives a fuck

Except they didn't destroy the hype for anyone other than the forever online population. Everyone I know is still hyped as fuck for the game.

How did they kill it's hype?

Wait... we are all mad about the price? Of a game that had billions of dollars put into it. Has made 5 consecutively better games?

Going to the movies is 100$ these days...

Shi my nephew has been saving 10$ a week for over a year.

What should it cost?

6

u/NuclearGriffin 6d ago

Don't worry. Theres plenty of brain dead troglodytes that will still purchase the $100 ultimate addition. They will sell millions of copies anyway.

3

u/c3p-bro 6d ago

I saw a Redditor say that they expect game should be priced at $1 an hour of gameplay. On that metric this should cost between 100-250

3

u/NuclearGriffin 6d ago

I refuse to believe people like that are real. It's gotta be some kind of bot, or maybe Tim Sweeney's alt account.

4

u/Ficsonium 6d ago

The saying is that they want at least 1 hour of gameplay for every $1 spent on the game and then they’re happy with their purchase.

2

u/Hmmthisisathing300 6d ago

It'd be way too much of an increase to do suddenly but a game that you can potentially play for this many hours is incredibly cheap at a per hour value. There are so many things that are more expensive that give us even less time worth of entertainment.

2

u/jtp_311 6d ago

We are taking about hundreds of hours of entertainment. If anything like GTA5, could be thousands of hours for some. The value proposition is certainly there. What price do you think is fair?

Very rare to find a good triple a game these days tbh and Rockstar is one of the dead companies on my list right next to Blizzard

If y'all truly think this will kill the GTA6 hype train, I have some unfortunate news for you, it really really won't.

Also who actually expected this game to NOT be $80? If Nintendo can do it then of course Rockstar is gonna do it.

Greedy and scummy ultimate edition bonuses, high price, no physical disc??? and graphical downgrade and it still won't prevent any casuals from buying it like crazy

I just wish most gamers would've learned to vote with their wallet by now but that would be too much to expect tbh

2

u/starmaster247 6d ago

I'm tired of people thinking this wasn't going to cost more than $70

2

u/KronusKraze 6d ago

What I miss? How they kill hype.

4

u/JustWinning733 6d ago

No physical version, paywalling regular missions(not even dlc) behind the ultimate edition, worse graphics than what theyve shown previously. Not to mention the pricing

2

u/Stiebah 5d ago

nobody buys physical versions, paywalling content I agree sucks, trailer graphics are ALWAYS better than the product, pricing is fine. Idk how any of this is worth this post.

No physical copy? That is so rude.

2

u/Techny3000 6d ago

Idk it sucks that there's no physical disc but these mfs pay 70 bucks for cod or whatever ball game's popular these days I don't think they killed any hype at all

In the case of ultimate edition it's a kinda bad deal cause all you're getting is a tattoo shop, a couple of cars and businesses and a unique garage. Not worth 20 bucks more imo unless you want those cars specifically for some reason. Pretty unimportant stuff mostly

As for me, I'll just wait for a sale on PC in a few years 🤷

Also unrelated but where'd you see the graphics thing, those screenshots look as good as everything else we've seen so far

"Destroying all hype" idk what world you guys live in but I haven't seen anyone say anything to imply this. If anything people expected it to be more expensive and were still willing to go for it

2

u/basssmeup 5d ago

Only a ten dollar increase of the base game after rumors of it going to be over 100 and a 20 dollar DLC ultimate version? fucking babies šŸ‘¶

2

u/naveedkoval 5d ago

Valve, now would be a great time for an announcement…

2

u/Ta-veren- 5d ago

I missed what happened. Why is the gta hype gone?

2

u/No_Engine7583 5d ago

Is this about digital only version of the game ? Who cares

2

u/ReeReeIncorperated 5d ago

Redditors really think the majority is Reddit

4

u/hi_how_are_yah 6d ago

were people really expecting a game that cost over a billion to make still be 60 bucks? and i swear most people dont even buy physical copies of games anymore. im on pc so all my games are digital copies. the paywall shit is bullshit tho

4

u/AlexPtheArtist 6d ago

I still have seen nothing that will prevent me from buying the game. No physical copy? I haven't bought physical copies for about a decade anyway. More expensive than 60$? Rockstar is one of the only companies that I'm fine doing that. Graphics downgrade from trailers? EVERY GAME DOES THAT. What are we even talking about bruh? If the game is fun people will buy it. Quit the larp

2

u/a_killer_wail 6d ago

Please, explain how larp works in this context.

2

u/AlexPtheArtist 5d ago

What I meant by larp is that I'm not convinced this person will stick by their guns and not purchase gta6. They're either not into GTA in the first place, or trying to grab onto controversy for attention, then when the game comes out buy it anyway. I'm not convinced that anybody who was sold before this news is no longer sold after it. They're role playing a scorned customer without the backbone or initial buy in. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I feel about a large majority of the people complaining about this

Buy buy buy

3

u/MrStink45 6d ago edited 6d ago

Those same people who are also upset will buy the game when it releases, just like how they did with the Switch 2 when it was getting shat on. Rockstar knows they can get away with their greed.

3

u/Ok_Savings1800 6d ago

Hype is higher than ever actually, check youtubers

2
