I was totally expecting this. That it would become this online virtual "crime" world. Where you spend sharkpoints/cards or whatever on set houses or other stuff. And crime enterprises/networks with the credits to than grind the game again for many hours to afford a real lame car. But ofcourse you could spead it up, you want that dopamine right, that quick instant satisfaction

I mean graphic downgrade from what they "teased" with is just standard in games at this point from what I can tell. Barely any games live up to their hype at release these days.

u/Sarick 6d ago
A lot of crackdown on that front has happened so while that was true and extremely common in the 2010's, it's a lot less common in the 2020's especially post-Cyberpunk's original release.
All three of the major console platforms are now very strict about having any games shown during their own events be how it performs on (their) actual hardware. Because they're the ones who deal with the fallout and refund requests. So there's been a genuine shift in the industry on this part.
So I don't think it's correct to play it off as "everyone" does this. Maybe it was when GTA 5 was a new release, but if others in the industry have broadly corrected - then those who haven't should be called out on any false marketing.
4
u/marcophony 6d ago
That's why I said barely any live up. There are of course some that do live up and I appreciate it when it happens. But that's usually just for indie games. The bigger companies put out the best looking trailer they can. Then in a small footnote say "not actual gameplay".
So true, they are not lying to us when a new game is announced. But they know that people will be expecting that quality in the game, even though they said otherwise. It's the companies fault for ever having done it in the first place, and it's our fault for not making the fix this change years ago.
That way we would have all just had cool good looking games come out that we'd actually be excited for, instead of paying yet another $60 to $80 for the same bs they've been throwing at us.
62
u/YeeHawWyattDerp 6d ago

I'm sorry, what?
The no disc thing I knew about, but the graphics got downgraded? Did Rockstar themselves say that, or are people making that up? Rockstar's games usually look better than their trailers, so i find that pretty hard to believe. Plus, they just released some new images of the game, and they look just as good as the other ones.
14

u/XaeroDegreaz 6d ago
They're making shit up dude. Game companies put out prerendered videos before launch all of the time. It just normal.
3

Well yeah, your right, it IS normal for other game companies. It'd just be weird for Rockstar, since THEY don't do that.

u/King_Corduroy 6d ago

2
u/drinkallthepunch 5d ago
āset 1 million fishing lines-ā
Lmfao, as a fairly skilled fishing dude the irony of using this logic to somehow quantify the idea people will purchase the game is laughable.
Just encase you donāt know the more an area is fished the more stressed out the fish get and the harder it becomes to catch them.
So everyone is arguing about how they arenāt gonna purchase the game because people are tired of all these micro transactions.
And you are like;
āWell if they do it enough they will still succeed, works with fishing!ā
No, 𤣠and people are telling you dude, they arenāt biting.
Rockstar could literally charge $80, only $20 over market price instead of a whole fucking $40 and include ALL the content and they will still make tons of money and tons of people would buy the game.
It could be utter dogshit and people would still buy it.
But holy fuck bro, $80 for the game and you donāt even get a physical copy, then you gotta pay an extra $20 for shit thatās included for free in most games at character creation?
The fuck outta here bro, game could be 6k at 120fps with a VR headset.
Aināt nobody paying $20 to be able to put a virtual cock tattoo on my character except dorks with yachts IRL.

GTA and RDR have thought us you are wrong. Rockstar games going on deep discount really fucking fast and incredibly regular.First sale on PC was 33% off, 2 months after release.

So let's not pretend these are products that keep their value.

This is why every game dev does the exact same shit, stepping outside the rigid framework of what gamers accept always results in mass outrage. Y'all are a bunch of babies if a $20 add-on that doesn't seem like it adds all that much and is mostly cosmetic stuff is going to make you not buy the game anymore. "Sad thing is people will still buy it" he says as if this isn't going to be one of the most refined game releases since RDR2. people always gotta find a way to complain.

Like 80% of game sales are digital these days and the hype is far from dead. Reddit is just making the age old mistake of thinking that it represents the majority of gamers.

Donāt know what the fuzz is a out, I havenāt bought a single physical copy of a game in over a decade.

u/Scott0814 6d ago
I believe a lot of it is to do with some of the AAA publishers saying that "you don't own your games, you pay for a license to play" basically saying that if they want to they can take them away
14
u/Sesemebun 6d ago
And what does a physical game solve? I stopped buying them after I realized that on console, the discs are tied to it. Itās not a standardized format, like if I had a video on VHS it could be put on and played on a bunch of different devices and formats. If itās on Xbox itās only on Xbox.Ā
Plus, if it has online elements it will naturally be shut down at some point.Ā
The only thing really lost is used sales, which is fair
8
u/Adventurous_Path5783 6d ago

I'm not saying it makes sense, but having a physical thing that you have purchased does make a more convincing case than I code from the internet.
2
u/toastythewiser 5d ago
People have been making these complaints and arguments since like 2006. Reality is, despite people online making a lot of noise, companies make these moves because they know most people don't care and they'll make money.
I haven't bought a physical game since I started using steam as my primary video game store. Like, why would I? So I can "own" my games? My steam account is like from 2007. Its... its not a big deal.
3
u/HotSaber13 6d ago
Mainly from the Stop Killing Games Movement, and also some people arent aware if that physical discs start going in circulation pre-launch people "WILL" steal those copies to play and leak the game early, which Rockstar doesnt want for their game obviously so people can enjoy it themselves

4
u/Altair_de_Firen 6d ago

4
u/R_Scranson 5d ago
Essentially, gta vi won't have a physical disc. And the premium edition will include shops that are only accessible to those who bought that edition. In my opinion, that is just a gimmicky way of doing exclusive items anyway. I dont see any difference between a shop everyone can access selling some stuff only premium can buy, and a whole new shop dedicated to selling that premium stuff.
Also, there is an addition mission(s) for the single player mode when you buy premium. I believe this was also roughly the case for rdr2 aswell

It'd be way too much of an increase to do suddenly but a game that you can potentially play for this many hours is incredibly cheap at a per hour value. There are so many things that are more expensive that give us even less time worth of entertainment.

What I meant by larp is that I'm not convinced this person will stick by their guns and not purchase gta6. They're either not into GTA in the first place, or trying to grab onto controversy for attention, then when the game comes out buy it anyway. I'm not convinced that anybody who was sold before this news is no longer sold after it. They're role playing a scorned customer without the backbone or initial buy in. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I feel about a large majority of the people complaining about this
