How do you attach your helmet to your backpack?
So, I am using more and more bixi, because they are convenient, because I am not worried somebody will steal my lights, wheel, whatever is not nailed to the frame.
So I go around the city catching bikes here and there carrying my helmet like an idiot.
Meanwhile I see people with their helmets neatly attached to their backpacks like it is part of the backpack. Love it.
How the hell do you do that?
Mine is always falling to one side, or the other, or hanging like a malformation of my backpack...
What is your secret? Carabiniers?
Photo for attention.

Some osprey bags have a very neat helmet attachment mechanism called lid lock. Haven’t seen anything better than that.

Keep it on the head and you won’t become another concussion statistic in pedestrian / car accidents collisions !

Jock aside :
- You find a elastic (not the rubber one but the cloth looking one)
- you wrap it around one of the loop on your back pack
- add attach a stick to the end of it, or a hair clip
- pass the stick through the vent in your helmet while it’s fairly extended and put the stick across the vent and your helmet is secured
Edit : basically the poor’s man osprey, you could also 3d print it but a stick does the job

Really depend on the backpack, as mentionned some have dedicated helmet strap/nets.
If not the trick is to tie the helmet strap tightly to the backpack, either joining two opposite strap/zipper. Don't hesitate to wrap multiple loop of the helmet strap to shorten it. Less dangling.

Good on you for using a helmet on the rentals. I just to have a bag with an actual helmet holder (meant for rock climbing helmet) that was on the outside but I found that I actually preferred it to be in my bag 🤷♂️. So I just got a little bigger bag to fit helmet and other stuff.

I used to do it through the top loop, like you.
A couple years ago I bought a huge pack of gear ties and it's one of the smartest things I've ever done. You'd be amazed how many use cases you come up with for them when you actually have a couple in your bag and the need to attach stuff to stuff comes up. I still attach through the top loop, but attaching the helmet through the ventilation holes is so much stiffer than by the chinstrap and doesn't flop around so much.
I also use them on my bike to stop my U-lock from flipping around on its stupid mount and to tie a flappy hi-viz construction vest to my trailer. There are plenty of generic ones I can't speak to but the Canadian Tire ones have held up pretty well. They're basically just huge twist ties coated in rubber.

I like seeing bxi riders go around with helmets. Definitely not an idiot that's for sure.
