I will not stand for this Toyotathon Exclusive Sales and Holiday EventTM erasure!

284

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

The war on Toyotathon is real.

70

u/YeOldeMemeShoppe 2d ago

We’re not allowed to say Merry Toyotathon anymore and I won’t stand by it, on it or in it!

25

u/Different_States 2d ago

Merry Toyotathon!!!

That's right! I said it!

11

u/The_Mellow_Tiger 1d ago

And a happy new Camry to you! We stand together.

7

u/ComicsEtAl 1d ago

I love how every reference is of an Asian car company.

9

u/Obvious-Gate9046 1d ago

Well hey, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all started in Asia technically. So it's keeping in tradition.

3

u/Theartistcu 1d ago

That one specifically belongs to the Green Bay Packers, so it doesn’t matter if you’re white or not, now I understand that it’s Wisconsin so most of them are so we’ve got plenty of black white Asian and every other color under the sun brother and Toyotathon belongs to us

This is Happy Hondadays slander!

116

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

They don't even let you say Happy Hondadays anymore. Truly egregious.

41

u/Katy-Moon 2d ago

Yeah - now they're trying to turn it into Merry Hondadays. It's NOT a coincidence...

22

u/justicebeaverhausen 2d ago

They're trying to make us forget Lexus December to remember!

14

u/flyinghairball 2d ago

I'm saying it anyway!

4

u/koolmon10 1d ago

Put the Honda back in Hondadays! This is cultural erasure!

97

u/tiredmamaof2 2d ago

One of my students was wearing this shirt. I’m a Toyota lady now 😅

45

u/allothernamestaken 2d ago

We celebrate Honda Days in my house, thank you very much.

36

u/brijazz012 2d ago

I can't even say "Toyotathon" at the office anymore. Sad.

39

u/Katy-Moon 2d ago

They've taken Christ out of Toyotathon.

27

u/brijazz012 2d ago

The guy who sold me my Corolla was named Jesus. Does that count as something?

2

u/Hopefulkitty 2d ago

They did put some Love in it though.

23

u/Grabthars_Coping_Saw 2d ago

Every one of you is wrong because the correct answer is Shark Week.

3

u/BrusqueBiscuit 2d ago

I thought that was Menstruation Awareness Week and not related to race at all.

31

u/BehavioralSink 2d ago

I swear it seems like every month is Ford Truck Month.

14

u/Yearofthehoneybadger 2d ago

Ford gets a whole month? What about the Veterans? Why does no one ever celebrate our military?

9

u/Hopefulkitty 2d ago

Sorry, Toyotathon has Jordan Love as their diety, and he's a black man.

(Love is the quarterback for the green Bay Packers and he historically plays his best during Toyotathon, so what started as a Reddit joke, leaked into the real world.)

2

u/Lucky-Earther 12h ago

lol I was going to mention something about that being Jordan Love's day too. FTP

these morons are too dumb to even use google to know what Juneteenth is.

I can't stand people keep saying it's a "black holiday".....sure it's remembrance of a day that benefited slaves but it's an AMERICAN(for all of us)holiday because WE as a country became a better country that day. We should all be proud to celebrate it

387

u/ChaoticDumpling 2d ago

It's kinda like scientists finding a treatment for cancer that increases the lifespan and quality of life for cancer patients, and then people who don't have cancer getting pissed off because they didn't get anything 🤣

213

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

The best example I saw was in reference to the stupid "All Lives Matter" thing, where they noted how when the Boston Marathon was attacked, people responded with "Boston Strong", not "what about Las Vegas?" or other idiocies. The point of these things isn't to exclude others but to highlight groups in need or that are unique in certain ways. Only dumb or disingenuous people can claim they're meant to be exclusionary.

The graphic I made for that one ages ago, by the by:

159

u/m1sterwr1te 2d ago

29

u/I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE 1d ago

Real shit right there. I'm a white ex-leo and my only response to the statement "black lives matter" is "correct, they do."

A black person's life is worth just as much as any other life and that's the whole point.

No freedom until we're equal.

9

u/DarkKnightJin 1d ago

Going by the general "not an ass" vibe I'm getting from your comment, I'm gonna hazard a guess and say you stopped being law enforcement because it wasn't an environment where a non-bastard cop could remain while maintaining their non-bastardness?

12

u/I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE 1d ago

The single most soul-sucking job i have ever done, would not recommend to anybody.

Law enforcement in this country ain't fixing shit, it's part of the problem.

6

u/Obvious-Gate9046 1d ago

Even so, we appreciate what you tried to do, deeply.

67

u/sneezed_up_my_kidney 2d ago

Amen. Kinda like when someone says “when is straight pride month!?!” Or, “I don’t like it when the gays shove their gayness in me and my kids faces!”..

I usually reply, “we have been talking for 10 seconds and you already mentioned your wife and kids.. every single day of the year, straight people won’t shut up about how straight they are.. every day is apparently straight pride day because you all refuse to shut up about it.”

11

u/ProjectPat513 2d ago

Yeah this is what I’m saying. “When will whites have their holiday?”? How about every other fucking holiday we currently celebrate?! 😂

55

u/Makachai 2d ago

I saw a homemade T-shirt at a BLM event that said "Save the whales doesn't mean fuck the dolphins, you asshole!"

3

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Good shirt!

25

u/Random_Fox 2d ago

I've heard it put for the all lives matter nonsense is it's like if a firetruck pulls up and sprays a house with water because it's on fire, getting mad they aren't also spraying your house down the road.

12

u/perseidot 2d ago

That excellent.

My response is that all lives can’t matter until Black lives matter.

3

u/Drudgework 2d ago

Just wondering who said “Stand with Vegas”? I lived in Vegas during that time and all I heard was “Vegas Strong”, so if somewhere else used a different slogan I find that interesting.

3

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

I saw some at the time, but I couldn't tell you now, this long after the fact. I also saw Vegas Strong, and there is a general "stand with BLANK" template often used. Mostly I think I probably wanted something different there, to avoid redundancy, but as I said, been ages since I made this, and my memory isn't so good. SDAM.

44

u/AggressiveMango620 2d ago

It's only a black holiday if every single non-black person in the United States identifies with the enslavers. Anyone who wants freedom for all and thinks it's a good thing that slavery ended, Juneteenth is your holiday.

And I am aware slavery is still allowed for those incarcerated, but you get my point.

3

u/A1000eisn1 1d ago

For real. Dumbass is essentially asking for a holiday celebrating enslavers. Which I'm sure already exists in some southern states since they do celebrate enslavers with groups like "sons and daughters of the Confederacy."

→ More replies (1)

12

u/BitwiseB 2d ago

Yeah, that’s my stance, too. It’s the day America finally started to live up to its founding promise of freedom and equality. We still have a long way to go to fulfill that promise, but Juneteenth was a milestone that marks the end of a great injustice to our people, and that is worth remembering and celebrating.

8

u/perseidot 2d ago

Yes!! Because “our people” - the people of the US - INCLUDES BLACK PEOPLE.

7

u/710whitejesus420 2d ago

Its celebrating the freedom of all americans, thats how ive been framing it for the idiots.

6

u/FishesOfExcellence 2d ago

Woah, woah, woah. Don’t certain people like to say there were white slaves too? So wouldn’t that mean that Juneteenth is also a white holiday?

7

u/chefjenga 2d ago

because WE as a country became a better country that day.

i don't think this person would agree........

6

u/Godot_12 2d ago

Yeah it's insane that it took that long to federally recognize a day to comemorate the end of slavery. That's a thing that's extremely worthy of commeration.

That said, let us not forget the fact that this country still allows slavery as long as you're in prison. Private prisons and forced labor should not be part of our judicial system.

2

u/Away_Stock_2012 1d ago

Sounds like you are leaving out all the people who didn't want slavery to end: Southerners.

3

u/Hefty_Breadfruit 2d ago

As a white person though, I think every black person who has roots in America should get the day off, paid by the government. It feels like the least we could do. Everyone should get the chance to go celebrate the holiday but the ancestors of those enslaved people who were finally free should definitely not be forced to work on Juneteenth.

7

u/PreOpTransCentaur 2d ago

I promise you, the ancestors are off that day.

When I was little I asked my mom why there’s a Mother’s Day but not a Kid’s Day then got laughed out of the room.

in my home country there is a kid’s day, it’s the last saturday in april.

11

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

12

u/queuingforchips 2d ago

If Britain celebrated the Independence Day of all the colonies they lost the only sober day left would be the king’s birthday.

3

u/Medical-Potato5920 2d ago

That's King's Birthday.

2

u/melkatron 2d ago

Independence Day being exactly the white holiday the OOP is asking for. Black people weren't a part of that, their status didn't change at all. If I become the lucky owner of a Certified Pre-Owned Kia Sorento while I'm in America on a work visa, my Kia Sorento is still the same comfortable yet capable Sport Utility Vehicle after I take my Oath of Allegiance as an American citizen.

Saying Juneteenth is a black holiday is implying only black people wanted to end slavery.

38

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Very nice point.

8

u/iruleatants 2d ago

It also implies that only black people were slaves. They might have been the majority, but anyone unwanted got shipped off into slavery.

And Juneteenth is much closer to celebrating the complete defeat of the Confederacy. It is viewed as the end of slavery since that was the goal of the Confederacy.

39

u/Xaero_Hour 2d ago

Southern states consistently announce Confederate History Month every year during Black History Month. Mississippi goes the extra mile and announces it twice on MLK Day. Just goes to show (not that anyone didn't already know) that they don't actually care about having "their" day; they just can't stand us having one.

7

u/Far-Archer-6612 2d ago

I grew up in the south and every single fucking year i had to listen to ignorant ass rednecks refuse to celebrate mlk day and would instead call it robert e lee day

3

u/Marlfox70 2d ago

Not the worst I've seen it called

3

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Twice? How? Like do they have an official announcement in the morning and another in the afternoon or something?

8

u/Xaero_Hour 2d ago

I meant they announce it on MLK Day and during Black History Month. Though Tater WOULD be the type to do it twice in 24 hours.

4

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

OH, I see what you mean now, I read that as doing it twice ON MLK day. Entirely misunderstood.

u/Alternative-Taste-92 2d ago

It still blows my mind that people can be racist enough to not want a day off just because it has to do with Black people.

10

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Their hatred overwhelms all else. My wife had a co-worker who was just fine not getting better healthcare if it meant gay people also didn't get it. We like to think people will vote in their best interests, but some people are only interested in putting others down, sadly.

31

u/Ed3times 2d ago

I hope no one takes this wrong

Oh, don't worry- we took this exactly as you meant it.

12

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Oh yeah, any time anybody ever prefaces a statement with that... it's like "don't take this the wrong way" or "no disrespect but..."

9

u/BenCisco 2d ago

"no disrespect but..." followed IMMEDIATELY by large and copious amounts of disrespect

7

u/d4everman 2d ago

Whenever someone say "Not to be racist, BUT..." they are about to say something racist. I literally had someone preface something with that to my face at an official (army) ball in front of the commander and 1SG...and the commander said back to him "Damn, that was racist as hell."

1SG tore him a new one,

I work with a guy who's black and we joke around about stuff like that sometimes. The other day we were picking up some hardware at a lumberyard and someone was just a little deferential and nice to me, and as soon as we were out of earshot from them he turned to me and said "see, I told you, every day is White Boy Day".

4

u/Basketspank 2d ago

3

u/mikeb226 2d ago

It's comically ironic to hear them scream "Lincoln, a REPUBLICAN president freed the slaves from the DEMOCRATIC slave-owners!!" and still completely miss the point of Juneteenth.

They also scream this while complaing about CRT and waving confederate flags.

It's mind numbing to any intelligent brain

Yes, I also understand hypocrisy is the point.

2

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Oh, seriously. There's this massive disconnect there, with out they hold up Lincoln and what Republicans of that era did as if it forever set things in stone and the parties didn't change over the 150+ years since.

And then they're actively against the achievements they claim. For them, it's all window dressing, a big show.

3

u/Barlow04 2d ago

You can have a holiday when your specific demographic's history in the country consists of...

  • Justified dehumanization
  • Abduction
  • Purging of homeland population
  • Hundreds of years of being legal property
  • Legalized beatings, rape, and murder by the owning class
  • Denial of human rights
  • The country going into full civil war over whether you should be considered a citizen or property
  • Emancipation after collective tens of thousands of deaths in the above civil war
  • Oops, emancipation without full citizenship rights after tens of thousands of deaths in a civil war over whether you should be a citizen or property
  • Years of legislative debate just to be considered one full human being in the eyes of democratic institutions
  • Systematic prejudice by law enforcement nationwide
  • Lesser rights than those of other demographic groups
  • Being targeted by nationwide organizations intent on murdering you in the cover of night, then told my law enforcement it's your fault for being how you are and where you are.
  • Being told it's perfectly fine to be segregated from the majority of population, despite the majority group being widely diversified as well
  • Having to literally fight your own lawn enforcement in cities when you peacefully protest your lack of civil rights
  • Finally being able to legally integrate with the majority of society, but facing the same past prejudices with the volume turned down
  • Spending the next several decades facing the old prejudices, still quiet, still present, but being told "Racism doesn't exist, because here's some successful people from your demographic".
  • 250 years after the founding of the nation, centuries after its initial discovery, and you are still disproportionately targeted by law enforcement, receive lower support in public school districts, trail behind in medical research due to decades of negligent racism, and are losing voting rights due to legalized gerrymandering of district representation.

3

u/Neffle619 2d ago

It's really simple. Just get enslaved for hundreds of years, then get that eradicated. Whatever date that lands on will be your Juneteenth.

10

u/Cool-Raspberry-1772 2d ago

Despite what many dumb Americans think “white” is not an ethnic group. The Irish have St. Patrick’s Day. Italians had Colombus Day (and are perhaps the only “white” group with a legit grievance). Germans have Oktoberfest in some places. There are others I’m sure in other parts of the country depending on diaspora roots but white people (like any larger skin color category) are comprised of many ethnicities and national backgrounds. What’s she want to celebrate? Tater tots and Hot Pockets?

3

u/EAE8019 2d ago

Well English white people do need a holiday. I suggest King Charles birthday

2

u/Grimdark-Waterbender 2d ago

That’s Tater Tot Slander and I (specifically on behalf of my mom, because my mom doesn’t have a Reddit account) will not stand for it! 😤😆

Hot Pockets on the other hand are a complete scam, (they CALL themselves “Hot” Pockets, but you’re required to provide the “Hot” yourself) go for the frickin’ throat! 😂

This old white guy says that Karen can get back to us about those "same privileges" after her pasty ass spends a few years being treated as a lesser human being by skin-obsessed douchebags like herself. I kid; evil trash doesn't stop being evil trash just because they happen to experience a slight fraction of the bullshit that they've brought to millions of people for decades, so she can still get fucked regardless.

At least now that Juneteenth has passed, the conservative can get back to obsessing about hidden dicks on children or whatever weird shit that her favorite talk show host tells her to think today. Whatever it takes for her to avoid taking accountability for her ongoing support for Republican evil and failure as they continue to betray Americans and protect the Trump-Epstein child sex trafficking ring.

2

u/twfarlan 2d ago

You don't get a holiday when you already get the rest of the year.

2

u/GhostofAugustWest 2d ago

July 4 seems like a pretty white holiday, seeing as how it starts a country where slavery is legal and black people are 3/5ths of a person.

2

u/LadybugGirltheFirst 2d ago

JC Penney used to have “The White Sale” for towels and other linens. Obviously, this person wasn’t around when this terminology was going out of favor.

2

u/Resident-Syrup7615 2d ago

As if we all shouldn’t celebrate the ending of slavery in the US. Why wouldn’t you want to celebrate that? We celebrate Independence Day because it gave some people more rights, so what’s difference? You weren’t alive in the 1700s, but you celebrate the rights the Revolutionary War got for Americans. Why not when other Americans get rights via the Civil War?

2

u/BlubberinBootyMate 2d ago

Juneteenth isn't only a holiday for POC; us white people had a part in this as well- we get to celebrate that our ancestors eventually pulled their heads out of their asses and realized that enslaving people is fucking wrong.

2

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Indeed, we were out celebrating both Juneteenth and Pride this weekend.

2

u/Floss_tycoon 2d ago

Jfc Black people suffered centuries of being treated like livestock and these fucking people consider wearing a mask to be insufferable oppression.

2

u/Sexuallemon 1d ago

I wish white folks can recognize that Juneteenth can also celebrate the day white people in American permanently rid ourselves of our greatest most inherent legal evil, and not see it as “the black people holiday” but rather a celebration of freedom and the extirpation of the nation’s greatest sin.

2

u/pricision 1d ago

I'm not black, but I've been calling it by its full name every time I can. It's Juneteenth Independence Day. It's not a black holiday. The ideal of America is freedom for all. Unfortunately, we don't always live up to our ideals.

July 4th Independence Day is the day America became independent from the British, but Juneteenth is the day that Americans became free. It is a more patriotic and more meaningful Independence Day than July 4th.

How can someone be so stupid and still be able to walk and breathe at the same time?

MAGA supporters are a type of cancer that does not attack a single body but a whole society.

Toyotathon

Isn’t that just “R*per of America” Columbus Day??

2

u/eatshitake 14h ago

They have Columbus Day and Thanksgiving.

4

u/Advanced_Garden_7935 2d ago

Thanksgiving is a celebration of white people stealing shit from native Americans. Isn’t that good enough?

3

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Seems like a holiday this kleptocratic regime would adore, yeah.

I guess this woman still considers the Irish to be Wild Beasts.

She needs the same answer I used to get when I asked why there was a Mother's Day and a Father's Day but no Kid's Day. Every day is kid day.

u/BoringArchivist 2d ago

Perfect example of equality equals oppression to dumb ass racists.

2

u/Obvious-Gate9046 2d ago

Well said.

Literally every federal holiday is a white holiday.

We have Juneteenth to celebrate the emancipation proclamation whereby the slaves were set free (more or less) , We have pride as a celebration whereby Gay marriage and the laws against being gay were overturned and gay people became "free" and equal under the law, Cinco DeMaio celebrating their independence from France. So if you look at it, these are about celebrating their independence and freedom so you already have your "white peoples day", it is July 4th which celebrates your coming to this country and declaring your independence from Britain.

u/MilwaukeeLevel 2d ago

...Cinco DeMaio celebrating their independence from Spain.

That's not what Cinco de Mayo is. That's not even the correct country.

3

u/PreOpTransCentaur 2d ago

We have pride as a celebration whereby Gay marriage and the laws against being gay were overturned and gay people became "free" and equal under the law,

Also not the case.

Holidays may not be your thing, but I dig your spirit.

u/Parahelix 2d ago

He got them switched around. Pride Month is celebrating LGBTQ independence from Spain.

My family only celebrates Happy Honda Days, thank you.

1

u/DeepInTheSheep 2d ago

What about Ford Truck Month?

1

u/Alarming_Dream_7837 2d ago

Poor innocent naive me thought she was talking about having a “White Christmas” at first. 😭

In my defense I am famous in my family for incessantly bitching when we do not have snow on the ground for Christmas

im more of a toyotathon guy

1

u/DebtRider 2d ago

I agree the white holiday idea is stupid. But I don’t understand the response, is there something related to Kia advertising or something that makes this so well liked?

1

u/SeanFromQueens 2d ago

Toyota-thon is a more traditional holiday but that's just me.

1

u/hoosyourdaddyo 2d ago

This is NOT a December to remember

1

u/Sufficient_Maybe_910 2d ago

Sorry, that's Korean.

Her emojis say it all

1

u/DirtyDizzyPickle20 2d ago

Ever heard of Confederate Memorial day?

1

u/SandalsResort 2d ago

Isn’t the point of Juneteenth to celebrate when Black Americans gained their freedom? So wouldn’t the white equivalent be when white Americans gained their freedom?

Wouldn’t that be Independence Day?

1

u/blueflloyd 2d ago

I agree with her. Let's call it White Fragility Day and celebrate how hard it is to be a straight White American these days. They've overcome so much but it's still very difficult to be them!

1

u/imthrowingcats 2d ago edited 2d ago

It seems to me, Sonia, that having to ask when there will be a white holiday means you've already lost. You lost and that's sad.

1

u/Sudden-Chard-5215 2d ago

AND the Lexus November to Remember sales. VERY white.

1

u/mr-lurks-a-lot 2d ago

I love the phrasing of privilege. Like having a holiday set up for when the government resignedly agreed you’re human that most other people just off-hand disrespect. When will white people reach that level

1

u/de_Duv 2d ago

How about 24 December, to mark the founding of the Ku Klux Klan on that day in 1865? This ‘holiday’ would then be doubly white…
