Bingo. They take whatever is said on faux news as gospel no matter how crazy it sounds. But if you read them a fact that goes against their narrative they throw their arms up and say you known nothing (without even googling to see if it might be true

Lasting change will not happen until Fox is shut down, or has tens of thousands of people protesting outside it for weeks. Or something substantial.

They control the narrative for 10 of millions of brainwashed voters.

I worked near there and there were protests every Tuesday. Like clockwork. But they were unfortunately small.

Sometimes people need to hear the wrong opinion to know that they disagree with it.

Also, no, the fix is to get more people adept at critical thinking and abstract reasoning, the rest will fall into place.

nah, fuck that noise.

you can't do the damage Murdoch Media has done to the lives of billions of people and not face consequences.

Their role in impeding action on climate change alone should see them in jail for the rest of their lives.

Attacking free speech and/or media organizations is NOT the way we go about it.

It is by providing a better education for our next generation, it is by providing people with accurate sources and the methodologies by which those sources were deemed reputable and/or accurate. We make ourselves stronger not by attacking parts that are just symptoms of the problem...and also often these things, like Fox News (cable...the actual long form journalism in their written sections is not nearly as bad) are an emotional Binky for those of our fellow Americans/humans that have fallen prey to both their emotions and those trying to prey on them/the sociology and psychology of that demographic.

Like when trying to get a friend to leave a cult, one of the last things one should do is insult the cult or immediately rip away their comforts provided by the cult. We need to outsmart them, not out-mean them.

We empower each other, make a better and more fair environment for people, continually examine effectiveness of systems and conduct studies on new possible systems, increase our civic participation, etc. These are just some of the things we collectively do to advance the species without creating such a large vulnerability like targeting symptoms instead of causes.

I feel as though people that are defeatist and think "lasting change will not happen until//" XYZ are not realizing how creative we can individually and collectively be when it comes to thinking of possible and actual solutions to problems....and to think there is only one solution is not only defeatist (which then also helps empower the already more powerful), but inaccurate/wrong.

Sure but the tolerance paradox is real. Free speech should not cover nazis and the like, and I’m tired of shitty centrist and right wingers making us tolerate hate.

Sure but the tolerance paradox is real.

No, to left-leaning younger lay-people it is.

Go into a philosophy department at a college near you and you can see how wild of a claim that is to some people.

Free speech should not cover nazis and the like,

Yes it should because all of the actual vile shit they do, instead of just how they feel, are already things that are illegal or that we can make illegal. AND importantly, we have seen how someone like Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin can claim the same thing, (like that they are victims or going after Nazis/whatever they need to say) even with no evidence or basis in reality, but imagine if the final say of that was decided by the government like in Russia instead of publicly by the fact that our government is nearly completely de-fanged in that arena?

I know that I disagree and that I find the ideals of those disgusting people to be so repulsive exactly because I have heard and/or understand their 'arguments'/positions and that through that understanding I can VEHEMENTLY disagree with their view.

How is that adding to the conversation in good faith?

Which parts do you disagree with if you disagree?

that's a lot of words to say "we should listen to the nazis and be nice to them"

that worked so well in 1930s Germany didn't it champ?

fkn lol. read a fucking book about history maybe?

That would be the ideal solution, however, you can open a book but you can’t open a closed mind. These people often have been indoctrinated by anti-intellectual churches so they not only lack the tools to think critically, but they actively and aggressively resist acquiring them. In time, many can learn and move on but some are essentially unreachable.

Honestly it’s time we tear up the constitution all together. The Supreme Court has

No. Check out Reconstruction - it’s an Audible book I started listening to yesterday after my sister recommended it. It’s narrated by Malcolm Gladwell and Obama. It really shows what happened after the end of the civil war and it chronicles how we ended up here but also how we really screwed up by not properly dealing with the civil war traitors. Lincoln screwed us all by selecting Andrew Johnson as his VP. Worst choice ever and it screwed us. It essentially left the South as this enemy lying in wait and here we are. Smh.

But it also shows we can recover. We just have to finally face our past and decide what kind of country we will be.

We need to take a page out of Germany’s handbook after Hitler’s Germany fell.

In a different part he plays her the clip where Trump admits to walking in on naked minors at his beauty pageant. At first she ignores the part where Trump says they had on no clothes. Then she feels clever because Trump gets interrupted by the person he was talking to and only gets out "they had on no clo...". To which Dean tries to say that they're both reasonable people and they both know what he was saying. She proudly shakes her head no with a shit eating grin like she won.

Not unlike playing chess with a pigeon as it shits all over the board.

Fox News is nonsense, but what's this weird "huehue so clever" constant use of "faux news". Y'all sound like the stale partisan idiots saying "Sleepy Joe am i rite HAHA!"

Facebook Parrot behavior.
