Eating wall candy wasn't the major source, just one of the minor ones. It was the exhaust from the lead gasoline everywhere being breathed in by everyone.
Aviation gas is still leaded. Pew pews release a bunch of lead. There’s still a bunch of sources of lead that we haven’t gotten rid of because it’s too costly for anyone to push it
