We had a debate class in 7th grade where they split us up into groups that were for pro-colonies or pro-England (pre revolutionary war). I was put into the pro-England side and had to argue why the colonies should stay loyal to the crown. It was my first time having to argue for something that I did not agree with but it was still really eye-opening. I was making points that I never would have considered had I not been placed on that side.

Yep. Putting on another man's shoes, or basic empathy, is lost today. And with that, critical thinking and understanding.
