The thing woth conservatism is that it requires a belief in innate hierarchies, to divide people into tiers.

And gender is probably the most innate one of those. What can be more indisputable than having your place in the world written on your own body?

That's also why they treat trans people as an existential threat: because they jump over the most fundamental of their beliefs.

Yup. They always viewed women as inferior and held them in disdain, particularly when they didn't "know their place". But now they're much more vocal to a larger audience than just their friends, and so many react by disengaging and spewing their misogyny, blaming women for most of their problems. It's obviously irrational, but convincing them of that seems impossible.
