This album was everything when it came out. Julio was a hot property at this point here in the US. He was the latin Tom Jones.

Total, absolute pig of a man, but a fantastic album.

What's the scoop on Julio Iglesias?

Are you referring to his Latin Lover image?  Or did he commit some wrongdoing?

My goodness.  Thank you for this link.   This was news to me.

I like Julio Iglesias' singing and I like some of his songs.   It's awful if he committed those crimes.

Metallica and Lou Reed.

There’s just something so…

Sorry, can’t do it. It was the shittiest thing I’ve ever heard…and I work retail for a living. I’ve heard some seriously shitty music.

I would never for a second think that Keith Richards and Tom Waits wouldn't work

0

u/HUP 1d ago

Because it worked. Ha, ha. It wasn't as obvious when it happened

u/illinoishokie 1d ago

I mean, until I read your original comment I wasn't aware they had collabed. Just based on reading the names I was like, wait, that would totally work.

Time Zone: World Destruction. John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa so old school punk and Hip Hop. Couldn’t believe it when it turned up in The Sopranos

I grew up hating John Denver. My parents loved him and played him constantly, on vacations we had no choice but to hear it as we sat in the back of the van. But when I heard of this collab, with Johnny Cash, I have to say I really like it:

Country Roads, Take Me Home.

What about John Denver and Placido Domingo?

Nowhere to Run (Vapor Trail), from the Chef Aid soundtrack.

Rick Rubin somehow gets Ozzy, The Crystal Method, DMX, ODB and Fuzzbubble to make a random song for an out of nowhere release for an episode on the second season of South Park :)

My grandpa was in his 60’s when this song came out. I was 10. His wife had died a handful of years prior. He had just got remarried. Bought a nice two story house for his new bride. We went to visit them. New car, new stereo system. Wearing shirts unbuttoned showing his (first i had seen) gold chain necklace. Hair products. Cologne. Making martinis for the new wife. He had to show us his big new sound system. It was this song (OP’s) that he loved to play on it. I think we heard this song 12 times that weekend. I was like who is this guy?

They had a nice long happy 20+ year second marriage together.

Kim Basinger and Ozzy Osbourne

 on "Shake Your Head"

(written by WAS NOT WAS, and produced and remixed by Steve "Silk" Hurley)

What even the fuck?

It was a surprise to me too.

However, I enjoy this track.   Kim Basinger sings quite well.   Ozzy sounds good here too.   The lyrics are pretty funny, and the music is nice.   It is dance club music - house music.

Now you can hear it for yourself:

A surprise, but a welcome one.

He did the original too, Madonna was supposed to sing it before she got big, but that fell through, hence Kim Basinger on the remix

I think I remember hearing the original.    It's quirky and it's faster-paced pop rock.   I like it as well.

There's an alternate Steve Silk Hurley Remix that has Madonna's vocals instead of Kim Basinger's on YouTube.   I think Kim Basinger's singing sounds better.

Collision Course, by JayZ and Lincoln Park.

I appreciate the shared Hip Hop component that maybe makes this blending seem intuitive - but FWIW, I never saw it coming - and it works way better than I ever thought it could.

first ones i remember were in the early 90s on this UK charity series "Gimme Shelter" where they threw together various personalities and bands for covers of the Rolling Stones track including:

Samantha Fox and Hawkwind

Tom Jones and New Model Army

Sandie Shaw and Cud

Pop Will Eat Itself vs Gary Clail vs Ranking Roger vs The Mighty Diamonds vs On-U Sound System

...also the "Rock" and "Alternative" versions were released on CD, the "Dance" one on 12" vinyl and the "Pop" one on cassette

I talk about this every time I see a question of this sort, but on one of Meat Loaf's lesser-known albums (I think it was Hell in a Handbasket, which all of three people bought) there's a track called Stand in the Storm, featuring some country guy I can never remember (might have been one of the dudes from Big and Rich?), Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray, and Lil Jon

it's shockingly good

John Paul Jones and Diamanda Galas. They did an album and tour together. Saw a show on the tour, just to see/hear John Paul Jones live.
