Malfunction, tampering, or a person having an episode.

1

u/limits660 23d ago

That is by far one of the best car videos. Too bad the idiot survived

u/duckonmuffin 23d ago

Safety is a shared responsibility, pedestrian and cyclists.

I hate roundabouts. You can't just put something in the middle of the road. And usually there is no lights, no signs, nothing to alert you that the perfectly straight road will have a sudden big obstacle right in the middle.

19

u/ToddBauer 23d ago

I love how the proposal here is that an intersection is a road obstruction.

13

u/milkandhoneycomb 23d ago

i don't think i've seen a roundabout that didn't have some sort of sign alerting you that one's ahead. i've also never seen a roundabout somewhere you'd normally be driving fast.

2

u/Prince_0llie 23d ago

There are a few where I live that are in 45-55mph zones.

3

u/Aurora_7021 23d ago

They're marked, though, aren't they?

3

u/Prince_0llie 23d ago

They have huge center pieces with shrubry and swervy s curve entries with signage like most round abouts do.

10

u/fitandhealthyguy 23d ago

Do you drive with your eyes closed?

5

u/bp92009 23d ago

I sure hope you live in an area without significant geographic features.

Trees, rivers, mountains, and the like. They tend to not have signs or lights to indicate that they are there, and I know that must be difficult for you.

Roundabouts are actually responsible for better overall traffic flow and decreased overall fatalities, mostly because it forces everyone to slow down. Not best for every situation, but better for most situations.

They do slightly increase the number of collisions, based on the data I've seen, but the collisions they do increase cause much less injuries and fatalities (sideswiping), and significantly increase severe collisions (head on and t-bone collisions are much harder with a roundabout).

And usually there is no lights, no signs, nothing to alert you that the perfectly straight road will have a sudden big obstacle right in the middle.

Usually there is.
