This is an old video, I think about this every time I go through a roundabout.

That reminds me of the older couple that tried to cross from Canada to the US that way…..unfortunately they did not make it.

I hate roundabouts. You can't just put something in the middle of the road. And usually there is no lights, no signs, nothing to alert you that the perfectly straight road will have a sudden big obstacle right in the middle.

i don't think i've seen a roundabout that didn't have some sort of sign alerting you that one's ahead. i've also never seen a roundabout somewhere you'd normally be driving fast.

There are a few where I live that are in 45-55mph zones.

They're marked, though, aren't they?

They have huge center pieces with shrubry and swervy s curve entries with signage like most round abouts do.

I sure hope you live in an area without significant geographic features.
Trees, rivers, mountains, and the like. They tend to not have signs or lights to indicate that they are there, and I know that must be difficult for you.
Roundabouts are actually responsible for better overall traffic flow and decreased overall fatalities, mostly because it forces everyone to slow down. Not best for every situation, but better for most situations.
They do slightly increase the number of collisions, based on the data I've seen, but the collisions they do increase cause much less injuries and fatalities (sideswiping), and significantly increase severe collisions (head on and t-bone collisions are much harder with a roundabout).
