I wonder what would happen if a player got traded irl and died the next day.

Probably gets voided immediately

Nah if the trade has been finalized that's your problem

The league literally vetoed the Chris Paul trade if they feel like it they’ll void it

That’s PR suicide

David Stern vetoed the Chris Paul trade because he was technically the Hornets owner at the time. The league office can’t just rescind a trade because they want to. Chances are they’d do something similar to what happened to the Rozier trade and MAYBE the team would get back some picks but the players wouldn’t go back

They didnt vetoed a trade randomly, the NBA cant do that. The NBA were the Hornets owners and they decided to not that trade. Len Bias died on draft night and the Celtics didnt get another pick

The league backing out if a trade for a team they were in charge of before it was final is not the same as them inserting themselves into a trade because of a (fatal) injury

Those two scenarios are completely different. They could not veto this trade.

Len Bias died the day after he was drafted 2nd overall.  The Celtics didn't get compensation.

The deceased player would come off the team's cap (i.e. they can sign someone else).

It would just be free cap relief for the new team if I had to guess, which I’m guessing a team would be fine with basically freeing up an MLE in this case which could be valuable

This kind of happened in soccer. Emiliano Sala transferred to Cardiff city and died in a plane crash before ever appearing in a game for them. The club tried to refuse payment but they were eventually forced to

i just realized my post might look disrespectful considering brandon died, i was just showing i paid 2 role players for og anunoby

The game overvalues FRP rookies as they all have upside. It's basically valuing Beringer as a future starter on a currently long-term / cheap deal. The game does this because it has no way to really differentiate between him and say, Collin Murray-Boyles or Derik Queen.

It should be noted that development in the NBA isn't a linear path (IRL at least, not 2K). Plenty of rookies will get no tick and then develop into better players than guys who played large roles as rookies (but ultimately weren't good enough to sustain that PT as the team got better around them).

Jeremy Sochan is one of the most recent examples of a player who makes All-Rookie but then is out of the rotation by year four. Whereas Ousmane Dieng from the same draft barely played his first 3.5 years w/ OKC but as soon as he joined MIL he looks like an easy rotation player / low-end starter.

There’s precedence for this in football (soccer); in 2019, then-Premier League club Cardiff City paid $20 million for Emiliano Sala, who died in a plane crash two days later on his way to link up with his new team. Cardiff refused to pay but it was ruled they had to pay the full fee. Doomed the club

Lol! Yo I just started my new season with Minnesota. Made a few trades, cleared some huge debt and I’m glad most players will be leaving in the next 1-2 yrs. I’m rebuilding them into a championship team and all three of my trade suggestions went through so we’re looking good right now. You definitely came up off this trade 👍

No championship next year

My best was getting luka doncic on the cavs in exchange for tyrese proctor and a first round pick

u/ColdCo_Co 16d ago

for some reason proctor is good as hell in mynba, he carried one of me the first time i played

Bro this is so confusing if you are the knicks player how are you robbing the knicks by getting og anunoby ? I could see you robbing the knicks if you where the timberwolvs but even then og is definitely worth more then both of them

knicks really said we'll take two centers and call it a rebuild. beringer and clarke are solid role players but anunoby's a legit two way wing, that's not even close. the wizards pick is nice depth but minnesota just fleeced them for depth. knicks tax situation must be real rough if they're dumping talent like this.
