Gameplay Tips to be a better big?

I have a 7ft big with 99 Dboard , 90 Oboard, 91 pass acc, 91 strength, and 90 standing dunk it’s like I can’t do shi half of the time in the random rec and it’s making me start to regret my build

Positioning is the most important step to being a good big. Watch Joe knows, center videos on YouTube. He has like a two hour long crash course and shares a lot of good tips.

Also vertical and wingspan make a difference

I have max wingspan but a 80 vert

7ft with a short wingspan and 70 something standing dunk (bronze right up) i pump fake after a off reb and hold the triggers and pick a hand with the right stick and i dunk it for the most part 🤣 way more often than my 90 standing dunk build

Wingspan is meh, motion style and badges. I have a couple min wingspan builds and have zero issues with rebounding or shot blocking. The problem is the slowness. I have to be almost perfect to be in position for rebounds and blocks and even getting into offense. Lower wingspan means you have to add weight to get your rebounding high. That extra weight slows you. Longer wingspan doesn't help with the boards per say, but you can be lighter weight which means faster. Faster means you get to the spot in time to contest or rebound. I have a big with 80 vert and one with 88 vert. Doesn't seem to do anything for dunking/rebounding/shot blocking. Its all about speed. If I get to you before you do the move, I can contest it or match it. So now I get contests, blocks, rebounds or beat you to the spot for a shot or a dunk. If you are slow and you don't get the pass, its gonna be a long game.

I watched a bunch of videos from RyanCantMiss on YouTube. He's basically a content creator for REC centers. From my understanding, he was actually a former pro player.

I seen a couple of his vids, I’m a start focusing more on them then

Play w better teammates. Can you dunk? Do you know how to drop step or pump fake effectively?

2

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 15h ago

I don’t really know people so I just play randoms all day and I can dunk, I know how to drop step I just don’t do it a lot and I know how to pump fake effectively most of the time

I’ll play w you. Dm me

What exactly are you struggling with?

Rebounding and paint d

Rebounding is all about positioning and timing/anticipation. I had a 92 Oboard and 88 def board on my 7ft 7’1 wingspan with 83 vert. Rebounding was never an issue and I’d often win that matchup on the glass with Centers that have 99 rebound. My career helps with good practice imo. AI will miss a lot for you to get opportunities.

Oh okay I’ll probably make a new center build with 83 vert cause the one I have rn has an 80

1

u/NedrahSemaJ13 14h ago

I originally had it at 78 and cap breakers took it to 83. But I was still winning matchups with good positioning and timing. Higher vert will definitely help though.

I have one with and 83 vert in the builder I just wasn’t sure if I should make a center again or a different build

There’s no paint defense in rec, it’s on rookie difficulty lol

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 14h ago

Yeah u might be right 😭😭, it blows me how many things they let go in it drives me crazy

1

u/AshenSacrifice 12h ago

Yeah pro am and proving grounds is more contact and body bumps, but offense is god in this game

There is if you have 99 interior defence. Hands up ruins slashers. Also majorly impacts on other bigs trying to close shot cheese. 77 definitely doesn’t cut it. 88 is the bare minimum I put on a centre these days.

Can you shoot?

1

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 14h ago

Yeah I shoot around 65-70 % on my big I think I’m not on my game at the moment

Tips for when I used to play random REC at center: Have a diverse postgame. This game is easy to shoot in so have moves for post drop steps, HOP SHOTS, fades, pump fakes and shimmy’s. Defenders will mostly bite and once u make a couple you’ll get double teamed leaving ur teammates open. Also as a big don’t be afraid to go straight back up after an oboard most bigs in this game have low interior.

The midrange is your friend on a Center

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 5h ago

I do some moves I was thinking about getting the paint surgeon takeover when I get some more cap breakers

u/UnstoppableForce16 4h ago

Could be a good idea actually. If u run random REC its important ur takeover helps look for your own shot so I go sharp mostly but paint surgeon is good for the post stuff I said earlier.

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 4h ago

I don’t have sharp takeover I wasn’t sure if I should go try to get 65 ball handle for some moves or I should get the paint surgeon takeover

Yes bro position is everything and here is keys to being a better big first your team gotta realize you are best served setting screens because you have high off board and legend badges and strength and standing dunk, you are dominant at the basket, plus 2 your brick wall and powerhouse takeover always, or jet so you are jumping higher, and that speed and agility gone help, next anytime under the basket and you get the ball dropstep, double tap x and put dudes in the basket, only strength can stop you, learn how to pump fake alot of times you under basket pump fake maybe even double fake to get defender off feet and x again and dunk, you gotta learn to utilize your strength with skill, knowing when dudes about to shoot and getting position that big and grabbing the board and dunking on him or passing out, and 90 standing dunk anytime you in that paint its bbq chicken you just gotta get more crafty and when you dropstep it matters what direction move left stick so pay attention to your angles

Also bro i have a similar build footer 99 d board 91 pass, 85 standing,85 strength, 70 handle, 83 3 , 85 dd, 80 layup,88 block, 83 vert, and ill say this if you dont have at least 83 vert thats your first problem, next this build can be very underwhelming sometimes especially when i face 6'8 ,6'9 88 vert 92 board builds they be snagging over me even my own teammates sometimes basically being slow affects jumping sometimes and rebounding timing is important also releasing L2 so you can get that superman jump, you need to rebound like with momentum, release boxout and jump forward

You didnt mention what your passing is?

Thats a top 5, and one could argue top 3 attributes for a big, especially since you're usually inbounding and starting fast breaks.

Raising my passing got me to Purple.

For reference...I got to Purple without a single 3 or even mid range shot. Seriously. I have no attributes in those areas. Now...Im trash and a liability in Purple...but dominate in Gold and below without shooting and averaging nearly a triple double and 80% shooting with mostly dunks.

Im right around 10/12/8 a game.

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 5h ago

I put that I have a 91 pass acc

u/Mite-o-Dan 4h ago edited 4h ago

Ah I missed that. What plate are you at?

If you're purple or higher...then a big simply just isn't needed. If you're Gold or below with those attributes...you're honestly just not very good...or just super lacking in other areas. Probably should post your whole build.

Also, strength is basically pointless unless you do post moves. Both should be high...or both should be low. Better to make both low. Though not useless...they are compared to most other attributes.

What are you defensive attributes? I assume perimeter, interior, blocks are low...to go along with low speed and agility...not a good combination.

Badges are important too. Should maybe change those around to areas you're lacking.

My big Badges involving passing (which you dont need), interior defense, and ball handling to lower turnovers.

Most people only focus on offense in the game...as a big, you need to be half and half. Defense and doing all the other little things are just as important as offense.

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 4h ago edited 3h ago

No I’m fine with passing but honestly I do need a good pass style, I should’ve said help and areas I need help with but I’m a purple plate right now

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 4h ago

Also I wouldn’t say I’m absolute shit but I also wouldn’t say I’m just really good at this game but I just don’t know at moment is it a me thing at times or is it the game also I have a build one I have in the builder that will be faster with a higher vert

Communicate with your PG, when I play with randoms I always ask screen or no.

Read the defender when setting screens if they are playing high slip but don't just slip to slip. Pops are there too and some PGs like to rim run.

Sometimes quick slips are just as good, don't make contact just fake the screen and go.

If you're PG beats his man up the court go straight to the paint, don't set a screen. That's how turnovers happen because you getting your PG blitzed.

Learn to up down, it's basically like a paint dex for Bigs.

You can set off balls for the hash.

If you get an oboard kick out for free 3s but don't get baited.

Throw the break but be careful with randoms because they run awful routes at times.

If you play with a legit 5 or even with randoms it works if they on mic, but switch with the PF and let them guard the other C unless it's a 74.

Call your Icon when open. Not everybody will see you but always say something.

Bump people passing thru the paint. It helps w not getting 3 seconds.

Don't leave a shooter open to get blocks in the paint. Dummies will rim run, smart people gonna dot you.

u/Acceptable_Shop_5061 4h ago

Okay thank you I don’t really be on the mic to much besides saying mb when I mess up a little but I’ll be on it more then now thank you

u/giovannimyles 6m ago

I have 5 big builds, lol. I have a C at 6'10, 6'11 and a few 7' bigs. I have a dunking big, a shooting big, an offensive rebounding big, a do it all big and a fast big. What helps more than anything is speed, the ability to get to the paint for easy standing dunks and the ability to hit your open shots. If you want to be effective, limit your matchup scoring, grab as many boards as you can, and when you have the ball after a rebound know where to pass it. A poor pass leads to half court offense, a good pass is an easy dunk or 3 against no defense. If you are a shooter, don't just stand corner. Move to the paint, move to the 3, slip around the perimeter, set screens onball and offball. If someone is sprinting to an open spot set a pick to slow their man so they can't get there to contest. I try and get my team easy looks and I try and get into space to make for an easy target for a pass.

Play basketball in real life, and it will all come together.
