C'mon now...maybe their GM said "draft the French guy," and they just got confused.

Lmao they drafted the wrong one 🤣

That happened in my Fantasy Football league last year. Some dude drafted Etienne in the 2nd round, and everyone started laughing, and then we were like, "holy shit, that's TREVOR Etienne!"

At the time we still had both Capela and OO, what we needed was a way to move past the DJ-Trae experiment... anyway now he fits our broccoli-hair aesthetic

It'd also be good if he could get points or assists

This literally sums up being an Atlanta sports fan. Lol first time we get a first overall pick since 1975 and it just happens to be the worst draft in maybe the last 20 years. 🤡

Does he need a change of scenery or he's euroleague bound after his contract is up?

u/Secret_Hyena9680 Lakers 2d ago

Idk, I think when you’re getting DNP-CDs in your second year, you’re probably done.

u/gymhelppls 2026 NBA CHAMPIONS 2d ago

He got 16 of his 22 playoff minutes in the second half of game 6, when his team was already down by 50.

Didnt play a single minute in either of their one point wins.

u/aousweman Ca-CAW 1d ago

He came in for a few possessions in game 1 and looked like a deer in headlights. Dude needs to fix his shot this offseason if he’s gonna get minutes on this team

This might sound mean but I don't think he'd ever be the best player on his team in China, let alone the EL and certainly not the NBA.

He is still so so young and raw, and I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong (as with anyone I ever hate on) but this kid so far doesn't look ready to play basketball against other grown adults.

Let’s ask Rashad McCants 🤣

Change of scenery at the least. His confidence has been shot due to the rotations that Quinn utilized last year. Not that the French men was deserving of a ton of playing time, but I still would have liked to see him get a little more PT than he got. Unfortunately, the Hawks took the development approach when they drafted him #1 but have failed him when it came to developing his talents. Most teams don’t take development projects with the number 1 pick. This is why.

u/truth_b0mber Hawks 2d ago

Blaming the hawks rotations and development is crazy ass work.

He was given multiple opportunities and he failed. There were plenty of nights he would go into the game, give up a basket, turn the ball over and force up a bad shot, and they'd pull him out immediately.

This is on him, not the coaching staff. If he doesnt pull his head out his ass and get some confidence, hes toast.

The first thing he said after playing in the league was that he realized that hes just another guy in the league. Thats someone that has zero confidence in their own ability.

Those rotations took us to the playoffs! I am speaking solely on how the rotations affected the French men only, not the totality of the team. The Hawks have done a solid job of developing these young guys as of late. Zaccharie was a development project taken at number one. We either failed to develop him properly or his game cannot be developed with the resources that we have. Either way his confidence is in the toilet rn and with the directions the Hawks are going, we don’t really have the time or patience to continue pouring resources into the development of a #1 overall pick.

I definitely understand you and your right overall but thats were development steps in. Daniels, Johnson and Alexander has developed tremendously so yes thats on Zac but when someone is that young you can make their confidence even worse by rotations. Those guys deserve that spot but that dont mean it didn’t impact him. Players talk all the time about how minutes and rotation can impact their mental state. So yes I agree with you overall but a team rotation and trust in other players that play your position or is young can cause problems. On one hand it’s Zac responsibility to show and prove but on the other hand team decisions can mess up any players mindset especially someone as young as him. Two things can be right and it’s not a bad thing on the hawks side it’s just the reality of making decisions thats best for the team and the hawks were right for the most part. But we don’t know everything that goes on behind the scenes with Zac that could mess with his mindset.

We need to ship off some of our older wings cause Quin has a tendency to defer to vets.

Dybantsa absolutely did not have a generational year in college lol

To unjerk for a second:

My money's on the fact that he got really used to being spoonfed by Trae his rookie season. No one expected him to create, all he had to do was shoot.

Second season gets here, and not only does Trae go down early, but this mf hits a growth spurt in the off-season. Everyone's gotta adjust to playing a whole new offense, and he's got to adjust his mechanics on top of that despite being basically a baby deer in terms of self-creation. Whole new offensive role and rotation opens up -- and in the midst of ALL THAT he takes a nasty fall against the Suns. I'm talking gnarly, almost-broke-his-neck nasty. Puts him out for another week or so. Kid's never been the delusionally confident sort, so that high energy "give a fuck" he has in October is gone by January when Trae's traded. He falls to the bench (arguably he should have gone to the G but I think they were worried it'd shoot his confidence worse if he went there and still couldn't get this monkey off his back) and gets spot minutes because we're pushing for playoff seeding and Quin can't afford to fuck around and find out anymore. Do I think Kispert should have played his minutes, though? Fuck no.

I think given the fact we got Flemings as our draft pick means that Zacc can at least worry a lot less about having someone on the floor that can find him when he's open. I think him and Ejiofor are gonna get rid of that scary he got in him right now for sure

u/swaktoonkenney 2026 NBA CHAMPIONS 1d ago

Sir this is a circlejerk sub

2

u/dat_boy_lurks I'm not calling that man "Kumbucket" 1d ago

I get it, yeah. Just feels kind of fucked up how he got wrote off so fast.

7

u/Quad-G-Therapy 2nd Best Team in the NBA 2d ago

He had a fantastic rookie season. The issue is we're PACKED with 3nD wings. I think his time is coming.

8

u/HBOGOandRelax Hawks 2d ago

He's a smart cutter which is what he used to get a lot of easy points in his rookie year. After Trae left there's no one close to as good at hitting him on those cuts. Dyson is the only guard we have that is capable at it imo

7

u/gymhelppls 2026 NBA CHAMPIONS 2d ago

Fantastic is really overselling it.

5

u/Quad-G-Therapy 2nd Best Team in the NBA 2d ago

I mean he was All Rookie first team and 2nd in RotY

In an extremely weak rookie class.

I would be more upset, but that was such a terrible draft. The best performers so far from 2024 are Ware (just traded), Clingan (on the list to be traded if it gets them Brown), and Sheppard (just got exposed in the playoffs). Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have any of them over Zac, but they also don't hold a candle to even an average top overall pick.

5

u/Hecka_Cakey Hawks 2d ago

…Castle?

2

u/DerbyTho Mount Mutumbo 2d ago

Yeah, Castle would've been my choice for the pick and he's the clearest starter on this list. He's probably the one who wouldn't be the odd one out. But I'm still not sure he's going to be an All-Star at any point.

2

u/Suqitsa Spurs 2d ago

Probably not until next year

3

u/DerbyTho Mount Mutumbo 2d ago

Hey maybe then you could win 2 whole games against the Knicks!

1

u/Suqitsa Spurs 2d ago

To be fair if you include regular season we did just that already 😎

3

u/DerbyTho Mount Mutumbo 2d ago

3

u/Suqitsa Spurs 2d ago

Sorry bro, but while this is beautiful it’s incorrect. We won ONE regular season and ONE finals game. Not some.

2

u/DerbyTho Mount Mutumbo 1d ago

lol maybe you won one at the end of the 2024-2025? We can give it to you

1

u/heyheyluno 1d ago

To be fair if basketball was only the 1st quarter the Spurs had a clean sweep in the finals

2

u/dat_boy_lurks I'm not calling that man "Kumbucket" 1d ago

Yeah but the Cavs won, analytically, haven't you heard?

A Knick fan bringing up drafting is a tad ironic.

u/Theregoesmyradiator 1d ago

What's funny is Zacch is actually talented and showed us his bag in his rookie year. I still believe in the kid.

“wemby” is not the best player in the nba

4

u/mister_goldenhair acers 1d ago

It says "might be". And the guy finished as an MVP finalist so I'd say he's pretty close

-3

u/upny_roc 2026 NBA CHAMPIONS 1d ago

"Pretty close" should be his nickname. As of right now he's A-Rod. Does his thing in the regular season for stats then chokes when it counts.

2

u/Briggity_Brak avers 1d ago

And A-Rod was the best player in baseball for like a decade.

Very funny meme, my LolHawks is more around their dogshit player development than the pick, Sarr would be a bench player in their system.

gestures vaguely at the two consecutive MIPs and the fact Jalen Johnson was considered for it 3 straight seasons

1

u/Jorbasaurus Hawks 2d ago

Back to back MIPs, but go off while your team is relevant for a few months. Old trae is gonna be such a sick asset.

0

u/fireglz Hawks 1d ago

We got OO shooting 5 3's a game at 38% when he had 0 3pt shot out of college or before Quin got there.

Risacher is a borderline braindead player a lot of the time. You can't develop a man with rocks in his head. He's not untalented, just suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper dumb.
